RIP Tom Parker

Even though this blog is dedicated to 5sos and BTS (and that may change...I’ll talk about that later), The Wanted were one of my favorite bands in my teens/early 20s. I got to see them live three times (San Jose, LA, and Las Vegas), and even got to meet Tom once at random. 

I just heard about his passing from a brain tumor, and I am stunned.

I knew about his battle with cancer, and the amazing work he had been doing towards cancer research and awareness. I’m also so glad that he got to tour with his brothers in music again before he passed. So, in honor of him, I’ll share that brief but hilarious moment where I met him. Of course, it was at a pub.

In West Hollywood, there’s an Irish pub called Rock &Reilly’s. At the time that  me and a friend checked it out (this was YEARS ago), it was a popular celebrity hangout spot. The Wanted were in town filming their reality show, and were frequent guests there. We got there early in the evening, and one of the workers even showed us their upstairs VIP area that would host a celebrity party that night (the party, we later found out, was for one of the Jenner girls).

Anyway, after having a pint and a bit of food, we started hearing some commotion outside. In strolls Tom Parker of The Wanted, along with some folks I didn’t recognize. If I remember right, a few of the other guys from the band were outside chatting with fans who were tipped off that they’d be there. My friend and I didn’t bother Tom’s group, but we were one table over and close enough to hear him slightly slurring his words. Dude came to the pub tipsy, lol. At one point, there was a yelp from his table, followed by a glass breaking, and then I felt an immediate spray of liquid on my pants. I turned to see Tom staring in horror at me, then at the floor. The next minute or so was a blur of apologies from him, followed by me and my friend being bought another round of beer by Tom. I didn’t take pictures of anything, because while I knew who he was, I was shy and aware that they were relaxing and not “on.” My friend and I left after a bit, and he waved and apologized again. I don’t think he knew that we recognized him, which was what we were going for.

The concert experiences were also fun, especially Vegas where Nathan decided to hold my hand and we both swung our arms back and forth like a couple of kids while he sang (I think) “Walks Like Rihanna.” I was near or at the front for all three shows. 

Anyway, Tom always struck me as a good soul with a wild child side, and isn’t that the best way to be, anyway? That’s an ideal balance right there.

Rest in Peace, Tom. And yes, apology accepted for the beer on my pants. :)

Get well soon, Jimin!

I just heard about our little mochi getting hit with the double whammy of Covid and acute appendicitis (which he had surgery for). According to Big Hit, he is recovering in the hospital and so far hasn’t had any complications with either condition. A lot of ARMY noticed his absence online lately, and this sounds like the reason.

To quote the boys...UGH. 

Sending him lots of love and healing energy to get well soon! He’s a strong lad, and I’m sure he’ll heal quickly!

My bias and bias wrecker have also now fully recovered from Covid and have been released back out into the world! So glad none of our boys had any serious symptoms or complications!

2021, you have the AUDACITY...the NERVE...to interrupt my Christmas dinner preparations to inform me that both my BIAS AND BIAS WRECKER have Covid?!

I have no words at this point.

Namjoon and Seokjin, take care of yourselves and rest up.

I'm adding them to the prayer list right next to our Meow Meow. I have faith that they'll be fine, but let's all send prayers/wishes/good vibes to them and anyone else having to be apart from loved ones.

Man, 2021 just had to send one last FU to us, didn't it?

In case you haven't heard, Yoongi is confirmed to have contracted Covid 19 (via BigHit). It was discovered during his post-flight quarantine. According to BigHit, he is currently asymptomatic and hasn't had any physical contact with the other members.

So I jumped to this first, because it came out right around when I posted about how I missed everything, lol.

I stumbled onto 5sos during the SGFG era, so I don’t consider myself an OG or anything. Still, I was amazed at how many of the inside jokes I got and laughed at. The skits all got a laugh out of me. I think my favorites were the “interview” and the funeral for Pop Punk, with “5sauce” coming in third.

Most importantly, I think it was just great to see the guys looking good and happy. They seemed so freaking happy throughout this entire show. That was the best part for me; seeing them in their element, happy as clams (ha, see what I did there?), being goofy as hell, and sounding really, really good. This is 5sos at their best, from performing to making an entire skit about “5sauce.” I was smiling so much that my face was actually hurting by the end, lol.

Oh, and “2011...” that made me both happy and sad at the same time. The sound and Malum’s singing made me happy, but admittedly the lyrics made me a little sad. I was surprised how few people have commented about the lyrics. They are kind of haunting, expressing a desire to go back to when things were more simple, and they weren’t as jaded. It really showed how much the celebrity life at such a young age affected them. I always believed that them moving to LA when they were so young could’ve had a potentially negative effect on them, and this kind of confirms some of those thoughts. I lived in LA for a little while, and that city can really do a number on you if you don’t stay grounded.

Anyway, now that I depressed everyone...I freaking loved this entire show. They need to make this a regular thing. Not weekly or monthly, but maybe once or twice a year. Good times, good times.

Also...ten freaking years?! Holy cow.
