on a rewatch of The Sandman I wanted to say my heart truly does go out to however many Sturridge girlies are out there. I wasn’t unaffected myself but if I had followed for years the career of a mildly pleasant man, whose general public manner is a Good Day with ADHD, only for him to rock up on Netflix full-baritone, speaking as, “The voice inside your head, the one who guides you to sleep and who leads you through your dreams, [...] authoritative and dangerous but [...] also seductive enough for you to accept the invitation,” I would have had an actual crisis, so I hope you’re all safe

Healing Factor - Complete
Tumblr media
Title: Healing Factor
Rating: M Status: Completed Relationships: Loki/Female OC Tags on AO3: Alternate Universe - Modern Setting, Doctor/Patient, Slow Build, Slow Burn, Enemies to Friends to Lovers, Eventual Sex, Eventual Romance, Emotional Hurt/Comfort, Snark, Major Character Injury, Injury Recovery, Emotionally Repressed, Odin (Marvel)’s Bad Parenting, Thor (Marvel) is Not Stupid, Protective Thor (Marvel), Thor (Marvel) is a Good Bro, Loki (Marvel) Needs a Hug, Minor Brunnhilde | Valkyrie/Thor (Marvel), Consent, Enthusiastic Consent, Emotional Baggage, Alternate Universe - Modern: No Powers, Banter
Summary: Loki was lucky to survive the devastating car crash that very nearly claimed his life. Now, resting and recuperating in his brother’s home he has every care and amenity available to help his recovery. A professional physical therapist was hired by Thor Odinson to help get his brother back on his feet. But for the young woman the assignment is not nearly as straight forward as it first may seem. The accident is merely the final link in a chain of traumatic experiences that inflicted wounds far worse than any number of broken bones. And it’s not as if Loki was a friendly man to begin with. Shrewd, caustic, mischievous and introverted, incapable of straightforward communication, lacking in patience and not overburdened with an excess of empathy Loki is the worst possible kind of patient to have. Unless, of course, you’re the type to enjoy the challenge…
Author Note: I’ve been very stuck and feeling down and unproductive lately, so I did something very indulgent - I made a header for the one fic I’ve ever completed and I’m posting it here. If mischievous sexy businessman lawyer Loki and his shenanigans with a NoSome-Nonsense PT hired to rehabilitate him sounds like something you might like, give it a go.

Why do you repost fanfics? Why don't you just reblog them? I saw that you tag them, but do you at least ask the author, or notify them?
Hello, I apologise for the delay on this response; recently many Real Life things have happened in quick succession, I'm sure you understand.
My answer for this has a few pieces: first being, I never considered keeping this blog to be a form of re-posting. I certainly don't think I've ever claimed these works as my own, though I'm happy to make that more obvious in the future if so needed. Along with that I rarely include a full work on this page, only a few introductory paragraphs before a redirect link (off the top of my head I do think I have just-the-fics-maam's one-shot "Welcome Home" posted on the old blog, which I'll come back to).
Second, I have in the past made efforts to contact authors prior to posting a story here. I will admit I have not done so with EVERY work and I will make that a more routine practice. But what course should I take if I never receive a response? Many of the works I include (and plan to include) here are at least five years old. Some authors are no longer active on Tumblr, and I try to notate and link accurately as possible for whoever might visit this page. Additionally, there are works hosted on AO3 (or elsewhere) that may not have a corresponding post on Tumblr to reblog, or may not be linked to a Tumblr at all.
Third, and I want to be clear that I don't mean to sound combative, but I don't have much time to spend scrolling blogs anymore and I may just be old and out of touch and unaware of Best Practices at this point? I have been happy to see the increase in authors posting full works and chapters to Tumblr, which had fallen out of fashion in years past, and I’d agree that it’s vital that recognition for an author’s work should be funnelled to the author. However, If an author no longer wishes to be associated with a past work, would it be disrespectful for readers to share it around with the author’s info redacted? If a work is posted exclusively on Tumblr, do readers have a right to copy the text into their own word processors, for their personal reading, for easier reading or in anticipation of the blog being abruptly deleted? I’ve been around long enough to see such things happen.
Honestly, there are a few works that have been lost to deletion that I almost wish I WOULD have somehow archived in full - If anyone has a copy of "I Love To Hate You" or "Within the Walls of Westminster" by wildlubricatedrobot or the 'Bluebirds' one-shot "Reconciled" by sweetoceancloud PLEASE let me know - and for that reason I did on one occasion put the entire "Welcome Home" text on my blog, so I would continue to have access to that work.
I regret leaving my theme to languish, I think my Intro/Info post (link here), where I try to make plain my intentions, may have been made inaccessible by my inaction and for that I apologise. I started this as a makeshift repository for works I personally enjoyed reading, with the understood possibility that other people might also enjoy them or had been trying to find old favourites. I know searching for a work via tags or body text on AO3 can be incredibly difficult especially if the work is behind the consent checkpoint.
I want to be on the right side of this, even if it means adjusting my practices, I want to act responsibly within the ethics of creative ownership of fanworks. I'm very familiar with the incidents of malicious re-posting, and I've personally removed access to works at authors' request while acting as an admin on the THF blog.  At the same time I want to sincerely engage with the idea of appropriate preservation and documentation, especially for private/non-commercial enjoyment.
If you are (or know) an author that would rather I not direct readers to a work in my current method please let me know and I will rectify that quickly. On the other hand, this question has raised many questions of my own and I wonder what, if any, general standards exist at this point or if it would vary by author. I'd love to hear perspectives on this if anyone feels comfortable offering theirs. I can't spend more time on this ask currently, but I appreciate hearing from you. b|x

A Seed In Barren Lands | Lizardbeth | 4 Works - 74k | Nov ‘13 - July ‘19
A broken seed in barren lands may sprout if watered in truth. Sif goes to Loki in his cell, and discovers some terrible truths about a very old pain.
Note: This is a proper redemption arc through violent means, and a satisfying investigation into how the discovery of being Jotun might drive Loki to such extreme destruction, when such a discovery comes after traumatic formative experiences.
- Author's Tumblr | @lizardbeths | Series on AO3 -
"This is a surprise."
Loki's dry voice reached her where she stood at the top of the steps. She flinched, feeling caught. How did he know someone was there? Then compounding her puzzlement, he called, "Come, Lady Sif, don't be shy."
Sif gritted her teeth, reminding herself that she knew he was going to provoke her. But she had to see. "I am not shy," she retorted as soon as she stepped before the transparent barrier.
The cell within was brightly lit, contained a bed, a few small tables, one chair, and little else. It was small, and her first thought was how bored Loki had to be in there. She hardened herself against pity, though. He didn't deserve it.

First, I’m still massively shocked that my Ask was the first you’d ever received (not counting the second Ask I sent after assuming Tumblr ate the first). Second, thank you for answering! I maintain that Healing Factor recaptured (for me) the “will they/won’t they/SHOULD they” Rom-Com magic featured in some incredibly popular TH-adjacent stories in days gone by. I know I’ve said before that the imagery is beautiful, as well as the pacing, and the tone. And of course I think it accomplishes all that more impressively by handling pre-established characters.
There’s a broad allowance for personal taste, but I find so many Marvel Loki stories seem to lose Chaotic Neutral mischief and tend toward a baseless cruelty for Loki that sort of magically melts into an better person after encountering romantic interest. Not dissimilar to a Mr Darcy figure but a bit hollow and supremely un-fun. I love that you made a point to keep the story full of mischief and cheek without falling into tragic, victimised Loki.
It’s a tight line to walk, but your characterisation of post-trauma effects on behavior and sense of humor is …so good. And it’s such a unique story besides! I’m so glad to know more about it, and always looking forward to more.
Hello! I misplaced my computer for ...a bit.. and meant to send this ages ago. There's a post back on 31 Jan about fanfiction questions and I'd personally love to know: regarding Healing Factor, what scene did you first put down and which is your favourite line of narration? Much love!
Hello! First, I want to apologize for how long it took me to answer this. I feel especially bad because this is my first ever Ask (woo!) and it was so exciting to get one, but then the news of the Invasion hit and I was just not in a frame of mind to formulate an answer.
I do like how Chapter 32 “Up and Down” narration turned out. That chapter was challenging - a first-person POV recollection of being severely concussed and having memory and comprehension lapses. Stuff like - Della's jumbled thoughts in the ravine and her remembering her father, who died of blunt force trauma also while at work. Her thinking about her mother and about Loki, showing that subconsciously both are equally important to her addled mind. It also has a stealth reference to the comics, where she thinks “There was so many things I could never imagine him do. Eat a street vendor hotdog. Take a selfie.” Both these things happened in the comics, so that was a fun reference to put in:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Regarding what scene I put down first, I wrote Healing Factor rather unconventionally for a fanfic. I wrote it from beginning to end, consecutively, in 1-2 hour-chunks, more-or-less every day for about two months. That was the rough draft and then I sat on it for about half a year and then started posting as I edited/revised. This is because at the time that was all my life allowed, I was in a position where I had a lot of time to think of plot, but not a lot of time to write things down. The story was born out of me thinking about some of the Modern AU sexy businessman/lawyer Loki x reader/OC fluff I read in 2019. I was trying to imagine what kind of stuff rich-boy human Loki would pull in a modern setting. I didn't want to go too dark, I wanted to stay in that mischievous area and the two ideas I had - him dumping cold water on Della and him driving up her phone bill with texts, were the two scenarios I made. The rest of the plot I imagined around these ideas, as I tried to create a narrative that would make that kind of shenanigans believable and the kind of person that would give Loki as good as she gets.
Thank-you so much for asking! Sorry for the late reply :(

Enthralled | Little-tortoise | (24/40) - 76.9k | Ongoing - Feb ‘22
This was bad omen. She didn’t want this man under her roof. There was something – what? – in him that made her blood curl. The malevolent glint in his green eyes. The way he carried himself, like he was royalty. The dark, graveling voice he had used when he told his name. That name. Hveðrungr. (Or: Loki finds himself deprived of his powers, kept on a rocky island in the middle of the sea.)
Note: (I've recently begun new employment and everything has really gotten worse from there! No time to do much of anything so please excuse my brevity here.) Enthralled has been a bright spot in my weeks lately, as a new chpter is posted regularly on Fridays. I confess I know very little about the author other than I've enjoyed reading this work, and I look forward to where it will end up. It tends toward Nordic Historical Drama rather than SciFi/Romance, be mindful of potential discomfort or triggers.

She was standing on the deck with the other women, watching the langskip coming deeper into the fjord, her rowers using their oars in cadence. The wind had slightly calmed down, but the rain was still pouring, and she clutched a hand on her cloak to make sure it kept closed over her chest, and over her precious load. The tiny little boy who she was waiting with. Who she was about to introduce to his father. Who was to be officially named by his father, even though she had started to think of him as Eskil, after her own father. She held him tighter against her heart, sharing her warmth with him. He was sound asleep, comforted by her presence and the smell of her skin and of her milk. Dagbjört, her sister-in-law, was standing next to her, holding her daughter by the hand, her youngest son perched on her hip. She caught her eye and gave an encouraging smile, her cheeks round and red from the cold air. “Ásgeir is going to be so proud when he sees his son”, she said. She nodded, smiling. I miss him, she thought.

Oh i loved her stories! She stopped writing one for personal reasons.
Ah, I see! I figured that might have been what happened, but it had been so long I couldn't quite remember. I do miss seeing her around, she always showed so much love for her characters it was a bit infectious.

The Center Cannot Hold | notsomolly (itchyfingers) | (28/28) - 72.8k | Feb ‘13 - July ‘14
Tom Hiddleston's marriage is falling apart. Can he and his wife Anna figure out a way to put it back together again?
Note: (Only as I re-read this work did I realise how many pieces of inspiration are reflected in my little two-part series, not to mention the as-yet unpublished third entry. There's something so satisfying about writing a scathing argument.)  The Center Cannot Hold wasn't notsomolly's first entry published in the TH fandom, and it certainly isn’t the only of her works I’ve read, but it is the one I most vividly remember reading. It's also a very good contemporary snapshot, in my opinion, of the overall atmosphere in the fandom and the fandom’s interpretation of Tom circa 2013-4. It’s a bit silly, a bit sexy, very smart, and very optimistic, though obviously not without frustration. You’ll also see guest appearances from Ben Batch and the Hemsworths, because 2013 was just like that, y’know? But it works! And it’s good, and Anna is a fantastic character and her independence strongly contributed to my appreciation of this story; I actually remember reading many of notsomolly’s works for fandoms I didn’t even mingle in because I enjoyed her original characters so much. While I know she hasn’t been active on tumblr for about a year (I can only hope she’s alright) I’m happy to see her works are still available, definitely have a look.

“What?”
The word hung in the air between them, a crystallized ornament of disbelief.
“I’m sorry, Anna, but I don’t want to try anymore.” He stared at his feet, unable to meet the pain in her eyes.
She had been doing the dishes after dinner when Tom had appeared guiltily in the doorway. He had leaned his long frame against the doorway and said, “I don’t think we should try to get pregnant again.” She had almost dropped the wine glass she had been drying.
She carefully placed the glass on the counter and turned to face him. “I don’t understand! You were so happy when we found out I was pregnant, and then when I miscarried…” Waking to a sheet stained red, cramped tight in a ball, the taste of her tears a steady diet for days. “You were so excited before. You kept talking about if it would have your curls or my eyes. You read Shakespeare to my belly every night.”
“I know, but you have to understand. Guinea changed me. I saw so many children who didn’t have anything, dying from lack of food, lack of water.” His voice was earnest, but his eyes were haunted with images of starving children, visible rib cages, and unmoving babies.
“Our baby wouldn’t be like that.” Her voice held a note of pleading in it.
“I know, but I think it would be so much better if we adopted some of those babies instead,” he responded quietly.
“I don’t want to adopt a baby. I want your baby. I want our baby!”
“I can’t give you that. Not anymore,” he answered regretfully.

@geminiloveca is a cornerstone of the early TH fanfiction authors! She hasn’t been too active on Tumblr recently, especially since the restriction efforts on mature content, I’m glad to see she’s still with us in spirit. Here’s a very quick and messy plug for her page (the tag function isn’t cooperating at the moment
https://geminiloveca.tumblr.com and if you’re logged into AO3, you’ll be able to instantly view “The Sin Series”, one of the earliest series published in the fandom  https://archiveofourown.org/series/25165
1. Tom Hiddleston "I met him a few years ago at a convention. He was very kind to everyone and a perfect gentleman. I tried to thank him for the things he's said in interviews that inspired me to get back into writing, and he kind of demurred and said he was only repeating good advice he'd been given himself. But at the end, as I was leaving, he called out my name, and when I turned around, he looked me in my eyes and said, 'Keep writing.'"–u/geminiloveca
"A friend of mine worked as his assistant while he was in a play on Broadway a few years back. She said he was such a caring and considerate guy. They threw a birthday party for his dog."–u/whiteboy623

my heart is out traveling | coffeesuperhero | One Shot - 29.6k | December ‘13
At Frigga's insistence, Loki and Sif make a cross-country winter holiday journey back home for Thor's upcoming wedding. Along the way, they recover love they thought they had lost, for each other, and for themselves.
Note: (coffeesuperhero hasn't published any Loki works since 2017, but don't let that stop you from exploring the rest of her library.) I've been holding onto this one for a few months in anticipation of the holiday season. These "Mischief and Mistletoe" authors don't mess around, and they're still going strong. If you're Loki/Sif fan, definitely be on the lookout for this year's collection. This piece was published just after The Dark World came out (on my birthday no less!) and the characters feel true to form. I'd consider this a proper romantic comedy, succinct and witty, with the perfect amount of angst and even a little heat of heat.
- Author's Tumblr | @coffeesuperhero -
"Happy holidays!"
Cheery voices and wishes of merriment follow Loki across campus as he makes his way to his office; he makes no reply save a halfhearted nod, the barest acknowledgment of all these unwanted seasonal greetings. It should be as plain as the frown on his face that he is not exactly overflowing with peace and goodwill at this time of year or any other, but people will insist upon being jolly, especially the undergraduates who have already finished their exams and have little else to do.
He doesn't say the words, "Bah, humbug," but he does think them. Loudly, and in the general direction of anyone wearing a stupid Santa hat and bearing gifts of baked goods.
It's an unusually cold winter for the Bay; even his East Coast upbringing isn't doing him any favors today, and in the pockets of his trench coat, his hands are clenched into fists to fend off the chill. Winter weather does not trouble him overly much-- it never has-- but still after nearly a decade in this climate, he can't get the chill of the waterlogged air out of his bones. Then again, it had probably crept into his heart years ago, long before he ever left home and family behind to come here: California is nearly three thousand miles away from everyone he's running from, and yet some days, it is still not far enough. This time of year it always haunts him the most, memories settling over him like the fog that lingers in the early morning air, and many of them-- nearly all of them, if he's honest, which he usually isn't-- about her. He sighs into the chill as he walks, surprised when his irritated breath does not puff out in a cloud. It may be cold for California, but if he feels frozen it is not the air around him, and the ring on his finger reminds him that even out here in exile, there are some things he won't let go of.

Good to be Bad | djarum99 | 2 Works - 8.9k | February-July ‘14
An encounter at a crossroads, a luxury car, and choices to be made in the morning. It's good to be bad.
Note: (This little series is steamy and violent, mind the warnings please!) Any author that develops an entire work out of a few minute-long spots has already accomplished something quite impressive, though a feature common to many "Jaguar Villains" stories is an original character who tends toward a more submissive demeanour than I personally enjoy. Across these two one shots, djarum99 takes a stylised approach, keeping the villain character to the shadows of the conflict to focus more on Sophia, who has climbed out of a past trauma to meet the consequences of her choices, though not without a healthy dose of caution.
- Author's Tumblr (Inactive) | @djarum999 | Series on AO3 -
The plane circles Heathrow as London dreams below, a spread of faery lights and fog, the city eternal and eternally damp. Sophie stretches, mindful of the business man snoring beside her. He’d monopolized the first class space and her time from New York until they reached mid-Atlantic, but she has the aisle seat (she always books the aisle seat), and the moment the wheels touch down she stands and heads for the exit.
Paul has promised to meet her, but her faith in Paul and his easy promises has worn gossamer thin. Sophie met him in a South Bank club, all swag and upper class nuance and not at all her usual type. Paul had a razor blade edge, though, underneath his skin, that aura of rocketing into freefall she always seeks in men. It began at university with Richard, she thinks, an “investment advisor” with a Maserati, questionable contacts, and ambitions high as the moon. If she’s honest, it began the day her parents died, although she’s never been certain of the exact date they met their doom. A second Indian Ocean honeymoon (we’ll bring you seashells, sweetheart, and a jar full of lovely sand) when Sophie was eight, aboard a chartered yacht that never arrived in the Maldives. Pirates, the authorities theorized, as the weather was clear and they found no life rafts, no oil slick, no wreckage. Nothing at all. Sophie was sent to an aunt in Belgravia and then within the year to boarding school, where the tragedy cloaked her in a gray sort of distance she never quite managed to escape.
How many twenty-first century trust fund girls can claim they were orphaned by pirates?

Dude. Idk how I stumbled here and I have the memory of a goldfish, so I apologize if we've talked in the past, but your review-setup-fic rec-whatever i should call it for The Relic had me in near tears. Just wow. I am so touched. I don't even know what to say except thank you.
Oh goodness I apologise for making you wait so long for a response! I can only thank you in return; you found such a unique niche in the Odinson/Asgard story and developed it beautifully, it had to be shared with everyone I could reach. I'm incredibly glad I could make your day a bit brighter and I look forward to reading everything you write in the future.

When Tapers Burned to Bedward | MumblingSage | One Shot - 7k | May 2014
She is eager for the feast to end. Not just for the crudely obvious reason—although ever since his touch had skimmed her thigh, however innocently, awareness has prickled of those places hidden under her silken skirts. She wants to be alone with her new husband. To learn him, to know him properly.
Note: (Apologies for my two month absence; hope you've all been well!) This is the first listed installment in the 'Virgilia Trilogy' MumblingSage had written shortly after the Donmar staging of Coriolanus. I don't want to give away too much but I will say I do plan to feature another of her works. If you enjoy historical settings and a healthy bit of sensuality I strongly recommend poking through the rest of MumblingSage's AO3 catalogue, and then proceed to her original ficiton.
- Author's Tumblr | @mumblingsage | Series on AO3 -
Virgilia sits silent, between her mother at her right hand and her new husband at her left, replying when spoken to, raising her glass of sweet wine with each blessing and toast. She must seem attentive to the speech given by Volumnia, her husband’s mother, who now calls her daughter in a chiming voice—but she doesn’t hear another word over the wordless clamor in her own head. She must seem attentive because it is her business, now; and for the very same reason she cannot take it in. So much has changed in a day. Now hers, this hall in which she sits; hers the people crowded around, new friends and political allies of an ancient, proud family; hers the man who sits beside her. And she is theirs.
Perhaps she needs the blessing. She drinks wine to it, but barely tastes a drop.
It is half as if the wine has already reached her, as if she is numb with drunkenness or shock. But she is not drunk, and this is not shock, either. She has known for a full year now that this marriage was coming, and she isn’t unhappy. All the same, Virgilia does feel unprepared—as if she’s forgotten something important, left it at her old home where she will not be returning this night.
There is one thing she can do, really should do, the one thing she hasn’t done yet: turn to her left and look, truly look, at the person waiting there. Her head is held at a stiff, half-bent angle so as to appear more intent on Volumnia where she stands at the other side of her son. It takes only a small movement to bring her eyes to Caius Martius.

Of course, you deserve it! It is a privilege in itself to read fanfiction altogether but it’s been particularly lovely to read your work. I can’t thank you enough for deciding to share it publicly. I’m also looking forward to how “Borrowed Time” progresses!
And that was a fantastic moment. I remember giving a little shout when I realised what happened and then immediately laughing out loud when I realised the dialogue tag for it was, “I said finally after just a little bit of a pause.” I remember I once described your imagery in a similar fashion, it’s the delicate inclusion of those little details that really gave me life.
Healing Factor | indelen | (42/42) - 121k | May ‘20 - Mar ‘21
Loki was lucky to survive the devastating car crash that very nearly claimed his life.
Note: Healing Factor has 13219 hits and deserves every one, like, I was lucky to read this story as it was posted in real time and I remember thinking by the fourth chapter that it would be one of my all-time favourites. I can’t praise it highly enough: the characters, the pacing, the plot points, the texting, the dialogue, the tension, the resolving of the tension. It felt like a return to my favourite works of the 2012-2015 era. Indelen’s writing is quick and intelligent, questions are posed to the reader and answered as they arise. I just- I’ll stop and let the work speak for itself but if you can, avoid reading the Series Title on AO3. The OFC’s first name is intentionally withheld and I promise it will be SO satisfying to read the moment its revealed. And as soon as you finish, read the next installment in the series, “In Care Of”, of which Indelen has just posted the ninth chapter.
- Author’s Tumblr | @indelen -
It is not my habit to make semi-flirtatious banter with a man about to interview me for a job as this is, of course, completely unprofessional.
And it is definitely not my habit to make semi-flirtatious banter with a man whom I knew to be married, no matter how obviously in jest the comments were meant to be. After all, even the most innocuous joke can be misconstrued.
And yet, when the front door of a modern upstate New York home opened and nothing short of a Norse god made flesh and mortal stood before me, all that popped out of my mouth was:
“Oh, my goodness gracious! Are you the one that needs round the clock care?”
Look.
If you were there.
And you saw him.
You would have done the same.
Thor Odinson was tall, fair, with cornflower blue eyes and perfect skin. His shoulders were broad and well muscled, his posture was comfortable and assured, his expression was bright and cheery. On hearing my words, he threw his head back and laughed. Even his laughter was energy itself; pure and friendly and unpretentious. Despite myself, I felt stuck down by his charm. It’s not even that he was remarkably handsome, though of course he was, it was that he projected immense health, joy and vitality.

I always find writers here I’ve never seen before.
I'm so glad! Honestly it was such a happy accident that I even found it before the third chapter had been posted last year. I was intending to browse through completed works in the Loki tag and it caught my eye on the first page. Obviously I wouldn't have shared it here if I didn't enjoy reading it but I think you'll love it as much as I do.
