Today, as the sun lingered low in the sky, casting long shadows upon the worn pavement of my weary path, I traversed a day that seemed to bear the weight of countless misgivings.
Each step echoed with the echoes of disappointment, reverberating through the corridors of my soul. In this world where dreams were crafted with painstaking care, I believed in the profound sanctity of respect. It was a currency of the heart, a tender exchange of acknowledgement and kindness.
I poured my essence into the cup of appreciation, hoping to drink the nectar of reciprocal regard. But as the hours unfurled like a fading tapestry, my belief began to crumble, crumbling like the pages of an ancient manuscript devoured by the sands of time. Insults were flung like arrows, piercing my fragile armor of effort and devotion.
And yet, amidst the clamor of this tempestuous day, a single shimmer of solace emerged to soothe the wounds that had bled in the aftermath of cruel words. A dog, carefree and untethered by the burdens that haunted the human heart, pranced upon the lush emerald grasses of a nearby park. Its spirit danced with the wind, a testament to the purest form of freedom. In its jubilant strides, I glimpsed a respite from the indignities that marred my existence.
For in the essence of that joyful creature, I found solace—a gentle reminder that amidst the ceaseless cycle of pain and disappointment, there still existed pockets of unadulterated bliss. And so, as the sun bid farewell to the horizon, painting the sky with hues of ruby and gold, I walked on, carrying the image of that carefree dog in my heart—a fragile flicker of hope amidst the turbulent currents of my melancholic day.

I have now attained the true art of letter-writing, which we are always told, is to express on paper exactly what one would say to the same person by word of mouth.

Go where you are respected, where you are appreciated, where you are wanted. You gain nothing by sticking it out and swallowing any mistreatment. But by walking away from those experiences you teach yourself that you are worthy of respect, of love, of quality relationships; and you also teach others that when they do not mirror the same level of respect, their access to you is revoked, end of story.

Home, although is a short novel but there's so much meaning, symbolism contained within this book. This book is about a black soldier returning home from the Korean War to the pre-civil rights era America. Hearing that his sister is dying the soldier makes his way across a country filled with institutional and casual racism.
Home is about memory and place. It's not an easy read, the prose is precise, distinct, and inclusive. I assume that a lot of us do not know about the Korean War and the racism in the US in the 50s so do not come to this book expecting a linear story following a single character with a sole purpose. The book is short but the characters are deeply developed.
I’m mesmerized at the number of lessons conveyed in such short a text.
Absolutely wonderful.

Why do people have to be this lonely? What's the point of it all? Millions of people in this world, all of them yearning, looking to others to satisfy them, yet isolating themselves. Why? Was the earth put here just to nourish human loneliness?
