This little part has always stuck with me. I think it’s interesting that Mimir presented Hearth with two paths.

The way I see it, the first path was never about “fixing” his deafness but more about seeking acceptance/access/an escape from abuse. Considering all the mistreatment and ableism in his childhood, Hearth must have believed on some level that becoming a hearing person would give him acceptance and equal access in society. Not because he wanted hearing, but because he thought becoming a hearing person was the only way he would be allowed to live a ‘normal’ life.

The problem is that in accepting this offer he would be forced to erase his Deaf identity and his ambitions. Ultimately he chose the path of magic. Maybe he had hope for a future free from those societal expectations, with people who treat him as an equal and accept him for who he is. idk I just think it’s neat to see the character’s path toward self-acceptance.

one of the best fics i've ever read, one that had me addicted to my phone and crying, wasn't even prose. it was a huge, casual, bullet-pointed outline with every detail of an au that the author never got around to writing in full. and it was amazing.

let this be a message to all you who want to write but can't do it "normally": write it! someone out there will eat it up. whether that be poetry, tiny drabbles, or bullet pointed list: your work is always worth it. your art (yes, art!) will alway deserve to have its moment in the spotlight. why? because you made it. even if it wasn't done in a traditional matter, it came from your brain and your creativity and that is amazing.

Just remembered something I wanted to put up here about the third mgca book The Ship of The Dead. After Magnus's flyting with Loki, the next day when everyone is on the ship together.

"The next day, Blitzen and Hearthstone went into nurturing mode, making sure everybody had food, everybody was warm enough, nobody was alone if they didn't want to be."

These two have SO much love to give. Whether it's their love for each other or the love for their friends, their family. They love every one of them so much and would do anything and everything for them. I love how they go out of their way to make sure that everyone is ok. If someone needs company or someone to talk with, they're there.

Heathstone and Blitzen have been through so SO much. And now they've finally found their real family in each other and the rest of their friends.

And they'll do everything they can to not lose it.

Getting back into the Magnus Chase books means that I get to remember the absolute beauty of Blitz and Hearth. Two lovely men who are rejected by their families for being different.

Blitzen is a brilliant artist who cannot survive in the sunlight, whereas Hearthstone is a talented rune mage who can’t survive in darkness. And yet, they are inseparable.

Hearth is known for not showing a significant amount of emotion, yet any time Blitz shows up after being separated from him, Hearth practically launches himself at the dwarf.

Blitz is unendingly protective over Hearth; always there to catch him when he feints, never missing a chance to defend the elf’s abilities.

They’re casually and non sexually intimate all the time. Whether they are queer platonic, romantic, or a secret third thing, they’re absolutely devoted to one another.

And I think that’s beautiful.
