Beagle bit family member, shows territorial aggression
Hi, i have a 1.5 yr old male beagle who is nothing like any other beagle i’ve come across. Yesterday he bit my brother pretty badly when he tried to pick him up (my dog willingly went into his room and upto him). Showed to the vet, he said looks like dog has sore shoulder muscles which could be the reason he bit him, but we can’t be sure. 2 months ago he bit another family member - the dog was sleeping and the person was sitting beside him. There was mild noise, dog woke up and got hold of the person’s hand. Again- can explain this away as being startled out of sleep, but can’t be sure.
He also has issues of territorial aggression heightened at night. Whenever he identifies someone in the house compound, he’ll bark, chase and lunge. Hasn’t bitten anyone but it’s way too close.
Any ideas of what can be done about this? Should we run some blood tests??
Also He’s pretty good with guests when they’ve entered the house. But we live in constant fear if he might just snap.
Thanks for reading

I want YOUR opinion.
I’m 26 and have had experience with caring for four beagles now. I keep coming across people (my current boyfriend) that haven’t had experience living in a beagle household. My current beagle is a few months shy of 2 years old and he is still full of that mischievous puppy energy so sometimes he gets into things if not watched properly. I know he’ll mostly outgrow this as my others did when they aged. My bf swears it’s lack of training and also believes that if he’s trained “correctly” he’d be able to be a full off-leash dog (fat chance haha the nose is very strong in this one however my late boy could mostly be trusted as he was only concerned with me).
Does anyone else ever feel frustrated trying to explain to people that beagles aren’t as easy as some other breeds, especially young beagles? Has your experience with beagles been the same? I’ve lived with 4 other dogs in my life time that are not beagles and they were much easier.

Coprophagia
My 3 month old puppy poops when left alone and starts eating it. This happens more often than not, even if he has pooped 30mins ago. Is this normal attention seeking behaviour? What can I do to stop this? Thanks a lot beagle parents!

Personality Changes
Hey guys! I posted before about my beagle Indiana Bones and that my mom is taking care of him while I'm deployed. Thanks for all the advice! I'm happy to say Indy has lost weight and the vet said he's on a healthy track now.
New problem,
My mom said he's been weird with certain people lately, no idea why
Context, I had him one year, and my mom's had him 5 months.
She said she's shown weird aggression to like a small handful of people, all men. Indy has never been abused or treated badly by anyone so I don't know where this is coming from. There aren't even any men in my mom's house, just her and my sisters.
He also snapped at a vet when the male vet touched his back?
Do you guys know what could be going on? Something I can suggest to my mom. She's just calling it teenage angst but I'm worried about him. I love my boy and I hate that I'm not there to figure it out

My beagle SUCKS with guests
I think it's a "him" thing, not a beagle thing, but posting here regardless in case anyone has insight:
I became owner of a 7-year-old beagle who in his previous household caused problems by howling dramatically and incessantly whenever a baby/child cried: not doable in a household with four of them. I live alone and for the most part he's a good companion and relatively well behaved.
When a guest comes over, though, he is intolerable--anxious, excitable, and needy. 1. Jumps on them at the front door and won't quit...has caused people scratches. 2. Will NOT leave them alone. If they sit on a couch or chair, he'll squeeze in real close to them and try to get on their lap, in a very frenzied way. 3. Sometimes starts barking, loudly and incessantly, because he's so overexcited.
No, trazodone doesn't help. The only thing that seems to do it is tossing him expensive bones that take a long time to chew and distract him, but usually he's right back at it when the bone is gone.
I can't live like this. I can't let myself become completely isolated because of a dog. I can completely forget about bringing any date home for example. Or anyone who is uncomfortable around dogs/scared of them. Or anyone with kids (not that the dog is mean, but in his overexcited state he's unpredictable).
All of this makes me really sad and I need solutions. If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions, I'm all ears.

Mods, as a lover of my beagle please allow... 😭
Two companies in Indiana @Inotivco and @Crinetics have been doing gut renching tests on dozens and dozens of beagles.... Over time hundreds.
Humane society had someone employed by the company for months provide videos and evidence. The videos are gut renching.... painful to watch and hear.
Beagles are the lab dog of choice because of their size and sweet temperament.
Multiple research scientists have spoken out that these tests are unnecessary, torture, and that the American public shouldn't see mere individual acts of animal abuse inhumane while still allowing companies to torture huge #'s of dogs from birth until death.
These two companies are so embarrassed/don't want word to get out that they won't even allow the dogs to be adopted, and instead over and over murder them all. Activism made a difference in Michigan. While animal testing on beagles still occurs there the dogs are allowed adoption if they survive.

Quite a fascinating situation.
The angry young Beagle is hitting his sister while the older Beagle is trying to defuse (?) the situation. It is all part of the hierarchy among the three Beagles. I do not intervene as they never go to real biting.

If, like me, you are a British Beagle friend, please consider signing this petition to help us ease restrictions on bringing our pets home from China.
As you may or may not know, people living in Shanghai right now are basically in the world's largest prison.
I would love to eventually escape back to the UK, but there is absolutely no way I will go anywhere without Gibson, my Beagle.
If you are British (Strictly speaking, I don't think other nationalities are allowed to participate) please consider signing this petition.
Thank you.

Beagle 101
I have always wanted a beagle, simply because they are so cute. But I don't know much about them so I figured I would come to the experts.
Someone in our community is rehoming a 5 month old pup. I don't know why but will obviously ask if your feedback makes it sound like he could be a good fit, so TIA.
Here are my questions: 1. At 5 months old, what should I expect him to be able to do? I haven't had a puppy in years (we typically adopt dogs 2 and older) so I want to know what I'm in for. 2. Do any of you have allergies and have a beagle? When I Google it the feedback is mixed. My husband is fairly allergic to dogs but not all of them set him off. 3. Do they typically get along well with other dogs? We have a 3 year old lhasa apso/poodle mix who is somewhat anxious. He likes other dogs but would struggle with one who be super in his face. 4. And as much as I'm sure you all love your pups, what drives you crazy about them?
Like I said, if we pursue this I want to know what I'm getting myself into. And I know myself well enough to know that if I call simply to ask questions that it's very likely that I'll have a new pup in my life, whether he's a good fit or not.
Thanks.

On the verge of adopting a beagle from a shelter- some questions
Hi beagle people! Today my family and I put a hold on a beagle at a shelter, who has come from a breeding facility for medical testing. (terrible.) They said shes 2.5, but I think she's definitely younger. She's mellow and sweet and curious, even with the stress of being at the shelter.
I've been reading up up beagles, but I really think it's better to ask ACTUAL owners instead of articles that give you contradicting info.
What are beagles like energy-wise? Will she really be anxious and destructive if she doesn't get at least an hour of running a day? I work from home, but I work a LOT and don't have time for multiple daily hour-long runs or hikes (much as I would love to). She will come on adventures with us (we like to visit nature centers and parks and explore), but it won't be an every day thing, and she'll most likely be snuggling with me most of the day while I work. Walks will be 3-4 a day, 15-30 min each walk depending on my workload. My last two dogs were giant and pretty lazy, so this is new for me.
This is a novel, so thanks for reading. I just want to be sure I can give her everything she needs!

please help crate training not going well
Hey everybody, my partner and I just adopted a beagle puppy 2 months 2 weeks old 5 days ago. Our beagle is having trouble adjusting to the crate so far. I know its soon and there is an adjustment period but if you have any other tips it would be much appreciated as its been 4 years since i crate trained a puppy who took to it very easily.
Things we do at night Dinner at 630 in the ceate Nap untill 830 9 Bathroom Play play play Bathroom again Play play play Bathroom...again
He is in a medium size crate with a puppy pad in the front and a towel in the back. Chew toy and kong stay in the crate all night. We put a radio on low by the back of his crate. He gets a small peanutbutter kong when he goes in.
During the day i have him eat treats and meals in his crate. Lots of playing and outdoor fun. He follows my cattle dogs lead really well. Our beagle was in a big glass room with 2 other brother and was never in a crate before. He howls for about an hour 3 or 4 times a night. Is there anything else i can be doing to help make this easier on him? Loft apartment, he sleeps downstairs in the living room and us and the heeler sleep in the loft.
Now that he is learning to go to the bathroom outside but still has accidents inside should i be letting him out in the middle of the night when he cries but just for the bathroom?
Any beagle help or advise is also welcome. Thank you.
