Yes, Israel started this by bombing an Iranian embassy, which is an act of war. But the claim that Iran's response was "overcautious" because it didn't kill anyone is disingenuous when the primary reason there were no casualties was because Israel & its allies shot down most of the missiles. Iran almost assuredly knew that would be the outcome, but that doesn't mean that Iran's attack was limited in comparison to Israel's attack in Damascus, it just means that Israel has magnitudes better defense than Syria.

🇮🇷 In less than 24 hours since the Iranian retaliation against Israel, Western leaders and much of mainstream media has already twisted the narrative to frame this as an unprecedented attack.
We now have two jobs:
☝️ To push back and make sure people know this was a retaliation — otherwise Israel can portray itself as a victim to garner sympathy
✌️ Not get distracted away from Gaza. Gaza is the priority

Sabra isn't a random "Israeli product." They've been a target of BDS for years now because they actively support the IDF. If you think boycotting Sabra is pointless or useless then you haven't been paying any attention to pro-Palestine movements until October 7.

To this day people will cry over the knowledge and works destroyed when the library of Alexandria was burned down.
And yet no tears are shed as Palestinian archives and libraries are bombed.
Saint Porphyrius Church, built in 1150 and the 3rd oldest church in the world has been bombed.
It's not an accident.
Israel aren't simply killing Palestinians, they are trying to erase that there ever were Palestinians in the first place.
Destroying their livelihoods, trying to to destroy their culture and history and pretend this land was never there's.
It's easy to deny someone's existence when there's no record of them.
Which is why it's so important to look at the atrocities and bear witness to what's happening.
But to also recognise that Palestine is more than it's suffering.
There is a living breathing culture, of art, history, literacy which all come from the Palestinians.
Traditions they've carried for centuries.
So while we mourn the dead, we shall fight for the living. Fight for the preservation of their crafts, amplify their voices as they speak on their culture.
Palestinian history and culture is alive. And no matter how much the world wants to erase that, they cannot and will not.

I encourage people who have distrusted the IDF's accounts of rapes to read the article. Human rights organizations have investigated the evidence and it is credible. We know that genitals of dead women and men were mutilated and that women bled from their vaginas.
You can absolutely be pro-Palestine, reject Israel's awful revenge in Gaza, and still speak out against mass rape used as a tactic of war. There is never an excuse for rape.
I can't even begin to catalog all of the ways that the world has piled on the trauma here. First the actual attack occurs, then people immediately start downplaying the horror of it or call it justified, then the organizations that are supposed to be allies in gender-based violence go mostly silent (or even imply or outright state that these rapes didn't happen). Now the evidence from the hard work of investigation of rape is coming out and can't be ignored anymore and I can hear it now: "The IDF is lying." (But we're supposed to believe everything that Hamas, a terrorist organization, claims.)
It's not often that I find myself at a loss for words, but this issue... I'm truly stunned at how deeply and widely these victims have been failed by the world.

I would encourage you to read my wall and what I've posted about if you're so damn curious about how I would solve all of the problems for Palestinians.
Honestly this is another reason why it was shameful when westerners were praising the Hamas attack, when we *knew* it would end like this, with Israel's far right government just waiting for any opportunity to commit mass genocide. Hamas basically decided to commit mass suicide and take out some Israelis with them. The only hope is that this will wake people up to Israel's atrocities, but is the death of 3000+ children worth that??

I propose you stop conflating "Palestinians" with "Hamas".
This was not a popular uprising, this was the governing and military organization of Gaza deciding on an attack.

I think it's great that she was willing to denounce her citizenship but the claim that "the vast majority of Israel's citizens are dual citizen holders" is BLATANT MISINFORMATION. About 10% of Israelis hold dual citizenship (https://www.dualcitizenshipreport.org/dual-citizenship/israel/).
About 21% of Israeli citizens were born overseas (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israeli_citizenship_law#:~:text=Dual%2Fmultiple%20citizenship%20is%20explicitly,lose%20their%20previous%20national%20statuses).
Canadian filmmaker renounces her Israeli citizenship in response to Israel's ethnic cleansing and genocide of Palestine. "Peace is not Israel's goal. I don't know if it ever was". The vast majority of Israeli citizens are dual citizenship holders, ie they were from another country, were born in another country and in the "ten pound pom" fashion, went to populate the illegal Israeli expansion settlements in Palestine, in support of the Israeli occupation of Palestine.

There needs to be an understanding that a situation can be politically and historically complex without that meaning that specific actions are morally complex.
The history of the Levant is complex. "Killing children is bad" shouldn't be, but there's way too many people who seem to think the history is not complex but the ethics of murdering children are 🙃
Do not trust people who are hostile to anyone who suggests political situations are complex. Ask yourself what they gain out of watering down issues into neat little slogans that no one is allowed to question without being dogpiled. What do they gain out of actively discouraging critical thought, and angrily shaming people who ask questions that go deeper than a viral twitter thread? How do you think radicalization happens, by encouraging people to examine multiple aspects of a situation and to consume as much information as possible? No, it happens by dumbing down the world into black and white situations only they have the answers to, and accusing anyone who doesn't blindly accept those supposed answers of malice and being on the side of the enemy, simply because they function in reality and know the world's problems can't be solved with the wave of a magic wand—or the stroke of a pen.

Putting out another call to actually read the news and not get it all from Tumblr, tiktok, insta, and twitter alone, even if you think you trust the sources. Even if they're your friends.
I've seen so much misinformation parroted by pro Palestine sources -- "there can be no tunnels in Palestine, period, it's under the water line" (patently untrue, not how science works, Israel literally built tunnels and bunkers and basements in many buildings in Egyptian controlled Gaza in the past; denying it completely makes the case worse) "all Israeli captives are soldiers and generals" (no, there are some children, some of them very young; denying this is veering into dangerous rhetorical territory), and other things. There have been videos posted to tiktok, insta, and twitter that claim to have been "just filmed" but are actually several years old, or from entirely separate conflicts in other countries.
We are not immune to misinformation and propaganda.
There is enough unfairness, state-enacted terrorism, war crimes, and state-spouted lies to report on, and to share and call out and to decry. We don't need the fake shit, it only hurts your credibility. Fact check and read the actual news I beg you.
The international news has actually been incredibly pro Palestine overall and staying very up to date. There's no excuse.

Jesus H Christ can we please stop whitewashing the experiences of the hostages?? These people are deeply traumatized and many are physically injured. They saw their friends and family killed as they were abducted. You can make the point that Israel treats its captives even worse (and clearly didn't care about dropping bombs on their kidnapped civilians) without treating Hamas' abduction of Israelis as some pleasant reeducation program.
Please for the love of God actually read the reports coming from the hostages and their families instead of reblogging this nonsense.
It’s wild seeing people go “okay it’s clearly Stockholm syndrome” to freed hostages thanking Hamas, saying goodbye and smiling/waving to Hamas as the IOF takes them and then also Israel keeping hostages under tight media supervision and advising them not to speak on their experiences when in actuality what probably happened was during this time the captives learned closely the the propaganda of their government that paints Hamas and Palestinians more broadly as monsterous subhumans wasn’t true. You can’t deny that hostages have consistently reported they were treated well and that the real fear was from the constant bombardments.
Comparing that with Palestinian captives being released after years of torture and abuse, some unable to even recognize their families, mothers crying over the lost years with their children, all of them detailing the horrors they face AND the fact that israel is keeping the bodies of those who died during imprisonment to finish out their sentence, them telling release children that they will be back, banning celebrations and expressions of joy in public at the release of captives as “supporting terrorists”
Idk just the more you see the more warped everything is.
