Sometimes you don't want to share a story with others. Sometimes you do want to share it, but no one clicks on the title. So why bother writing it down if the only person you can guarantee will read it is you?
You need to get it out of your head. It just keeps replaying in your imagination on a loop and the only way to get it unstuck is to pin it down on paper.
You need to figure out what the story is. You have a lot of disjointed scenes or lines that you know are connected but you can't quite figure out how.
There's something in the story that's important to you, and you don't want to lose that thing by forgetting it. Future you might find that thing important too.
You want to be able to go back to the story again and again. Maybe to make adjustments over time. Maybe just to revisit a story that gives you the emotional release you need in that moment.
You want to be able to use text-to-speech to read the story aloud to you. Maybe it's a bedtime story. Maybe it's keeping you company while you do errands and chores.
You want to find out whether you can write a story (because not everyone can).
You want to be able to have almost the same story, but a little bit different, and you want to have it 15 times with slight variations. Then you can go through your own personal menu picking exactly the combination of beats that will satisfy you most on this reading.
You enjoy the process of finding just the right words or phrases or scenes to paint the pictures you want to shape the scene.
You want to find the exact rhythm and syllables and structure to make a sentence really sing.
You don't really have any particular reason, but you know you want to write that story down.
One of the things that made Captain America: The Winter Soldier so good was that it really went out of its way to establish character’s competence before they fought the big climax of the story, so you really feel the stakes.
Fury escaped a whole set of police cars and weaponized teams and being shot at from all sides, but then comes the Winter Soldier and bam just like that he’s down. Steve took out a set of pirates and Batroc at the start of the movie, then an entire elevator full of STRIKE agents, brought down a plane with his bare hands, but then bam the Winter Soldier slams into him like nothing else before.
And with Winter Soldier we see him take out Fury twice, go toe to toe with Steve, hurl Natasha around, yank a guy from a car, jump from a bridge, he’s restrained in a room filled with people with huge guns and he slams a guy halfway across the room, and then Pierce goes ahead and slaps him, because he can.
Y'all remember when the MCU had sets with green screen instead of *just* green screen?
I never expected to rewatch this and have SO much fun with the practical effects (like Thor's old costume) and heavy use of practical sets that used CGI to enhance the realism, not create it entirely. It's truly the best campy, doesn't-take-itself-too-seriously experience.
Like, YES, there were green screen backgrounds in this movie — and BOY have they aged terribly (can't wait til Shitgame does the same and people stop drooling over it so much) But it was still *lively*, ya know? It still had character.
Okay yes that's a green screen background but on a SET. With PROPS.
Time went on and things turned into....
Barely a prop or set piece in sight. Costumes only, and you're lucky when they aren't CGIed too.
Listen if you like this stuff, do you boo.
But goddamn I wish we could get back the days of less green screen. It's fun.
Having written a 200k+ word fic that I accept as my fanon (the TDW sequel one) is so weird because now I'm like u guys don't know what heppened then ;-;
I’ve been watching a lot of big time rush the past few days and I wish my life was as animated and had whacky music and sound effects. I just think it would fix me.
i actually feel like the bamfiest aziraphale moment that isn't getting enough love is the "you came to me. i said i would protect you. and i will." like hoooly shit. it's brave in a quiet way, in a kind way. and the way it's delivered too, it really feels like for a brief moment i got to see all the way through his soul to its shining core. anyone gif that bit?
