Sometimes I see a take and I just want to ask the person saying it if they truly understand what it is like to be queer outside of their bubble of Internet. Like they do know it's hard to be openly queer.

Why don't more sapphics just write sapphic literature. Because it's hard.

Why do "straight women" write gay literature? Because it's safer for them to be labeled that than queer.

Why does this media only imply it's gay rather than be openly gay? Because it's safer.

Queer coding exists for a reason. Because if it's truly meant for queer audiences then who cares if straight people don't see it. It wasn't meant for them.

"well in my community I can be openly queer" I'm so happy for you. You are blessed. That's not always the case globally. Hell that's not even the case in the United States.

The world is more conservative than we wish it was. I had a coworker who lost her job because she told her coworkers that she had a wife. Ive had family members violently attacked for being who they are. My dad to his death did not know my sexuality. No one in my family knows my gender identity. The fact that I currently live in a community where I feel safe enough to be open is a blessing I never thought would be possible.

That's all to say y'all need to chill. Be grateful for what was achieved. Be angry enough to be politically active and aware in your community.
