All eyes on hard-hitter Shafali ahead of India women’s one-off Test

Young opener Shafali Verma could make her Test debut in the one-off Test between India women and England women that commences on Wednesday.

The 17-year-old Rohtak girl is one of the hardest hitters of a cricket ball in women’s cricket but is yet to play an ODI or a Test match.

While not having played a Test is understandable since India have not played one in close to seven years, her absence from the ODI squad in the recent home series against South Africa raised quite a few eyebrows.

Tahir Raj Bhasin: Was rejected in 250 auditions before Mardaani

Actor Tahir Raj Bhasin says he was rejected around 250 times before being signed by Aditya Chopra for the film “Mardaani”.

“Anything that’s worthwhile takes time and this is something I understood when I first came to Mumbai. I was rejected from some 250 auditions over three years before ‘Mardaani’, but I used this as positive fuel and feedback,” said Tahir.

He added: “It meant I needed to grow and growth came from workshops and hours of practice.”

‘Bell Bottom’ to release in theatres on July 27

The Akshay Kumar-starrer spy thriller “Bell Bottom” has now been scheduled for a theatrical release on July 27.

Akshay posted a video on Instagram on Tuesday to announce the news.

The film was earlier scheduled for an April 2021 release but was pushed due to the second wave of Covid-19 in the country.

ICC to stick with percentage of points system for 2021-23: ICC CEO

The International Cricket Council (ICC) will stick to percentage-of-points-won method for ranking teams in the 2021-2023 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, said Geoff Allardice, the apex body’s chief executive officer (CEO).

“We are going to stick with the percentage-of-points-won method to rank teams,” Allardice said.

“When we looked at the first 12 months of the competition you had teams on a number of points, but it was all relative to how many series they had played. So one of the ways to compare teams on an ongoing basis is what proportion of the points that have been available in the matches they played have been actually won. And that percentage served us well in the second half of the Championship,” he added.

ColorOS 11 arriving on more OPPO smartphones this month

Smartphone brand OPPO on Monday announced that its fastest ColorOS 11, which is based on Android 11 operating system, will be available on more OPPO devices in the country this month.

The OPPO A53 and OPPO F17 will receive the ColorOS 11 official version by June17 and June 26, respectively.

OPPO A54 and OPPO Reno will receive the latest OS updates from June 16 and June 29 onwards, respectively, the company said in a statement.

Williamson likely to be fit for WTC final vs all-round India: Latham

New Zealand opener Tom Latham has said that captain Kane Williamson and wicketkeeper-batsman BJ Watling are recovering well and is confident the duo will be available for the World Test Championship (WTC) final against India from June 18 at the Hampshire Bowl.

“They are recovering reasonably well. It was important for them to get a bit of rest and be fully fit heading into the next week, so I am sure they will go through the fitness testing protocol over the next day or two in order for them to be ready to go for the next week. Fingers crossed. We will have a fully fit squad,” said Latham, who stood in place of Williamson in the second Test against England at Birmingham which the Kiwis won.

Djokovic rallies to win French Open, his 19th Grand Slam title

World No.1 Novak Djokovic on Sunday made an astonishing comeback from being two sets down to beat fifth seed Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-7(6), 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 in four hours and 11 minutes and win the French Open title.
