Constantly obsessed with the concept of a man forced to be a myth. What do you do when every step you take is embedded into the text. Every word you say prose to read. You're part of something bigger than yourself. The narrative tugs you along like water currents. There is no time to rest, to be human. You must be great, you must be legend

He could stay hidden and wait to see what more Sherlock will do, but Loki does so love to talk and to be seen. He elects for a compromise, casting a duplicate of himself into the detective's armchair. For now, his appearance is a smart, Midgardian black suit and immaculate dress shoes.

"Nothing wrong with a touch of gloating now and then, I'm sure you'd agree. Have you solved the case yet, Mr Holmes?"

Sherlock mutters something under his breath as he reads the text, pacing the living area of the apartment as he tries to make sense of this new bit of information he's received. It's not the first time something like this has happened. There are many people working under such secrecy that they are struck from every record possible. Untraceable. It is, however, the first time Sherlock has had to attach that fact to how the man had seemingly vanished into thin air.
He pockets his phone, wandering into the kitchen as he widens his pacing loop. Perhaps he's looking at this from the wrong angle. Maybe if he calls John and lays out the fact he'll say something stupid enough that it'll help Sherlock land on something he's missed. Or maybe he can-

Sherlock halts, staring down at the counter-top. He knows every single detail of this flat and that had not been there when he'd returned.
Someone is in here. Messing with him.
Where's his gun?
"Alright. Funny. You got it without me noticing. Or maybe you were already in here. Come on out so you can gloat away, go on."

the best part about mobius is that he is the first person in loki's life to just roll along with his dramatics. until that point in his life, every person has met loki's outbursts with equal force. but when loki and mobius first meet, loki proceeds to say i'll burn this place to the ground, i'll kill you, and mobius just goes along, says if you do burn it down, start with my desk with a friendly smile.
he is the only person to have ever interacted with loki that knew the first rule of improv: to just "yes, and" the most unhinged drivel some theater nerd won't stop monologing on about in order to get through your day with sanity intact.

As soon as he was handed the food, Loki's demeanour was the picture of gratitude and amenable guest.
"Thank you!"
If there was something he prided himself on, it was that he could use Midgardian cutlery like a native where many of his people would dive in with their hands. He immediately attacked the bacon with precision.
"Boars on Asgard were far tougher to eat than the hogs you have here."
Scott’s grin was a bit smug before he nodded and said, “A minute or two more, and we should be ready.”
True to his word, a minute or two more, and Scott was plating the food and setting it on the table. “Here we go,” he said proudly. “Hope you like it. Dig in and help yourself.”

At the first call to attack, Loki gritted his teeth, his instincts wanting to bark orders. He watched the result, inwardly pleading for their impulsiveness to succeed and for the being to be more bark than bite.
As if he were ever going to be that fortunate. The thing burst through and Vers gave the order to attack.
"No!" Loki yelled, unheeded.
And then came the wave of energy. He felt it ripple through the ship, felt the sudden release of pressure from his arms as his guards howled and keeled over. If only he could take the time to embrace the satisfaction of them all lying there, including the Accuser. He looked at her and then stepped toward the front of the bridge, picking his way past the writhing Kree.
Loki stared back at the creature whose voice boomed in his head. He was afraid, but there was no point in showing it, not with what he had to protect.
"Who are you? What do you want?"
The creature continued to struggle against reality, the edges uncoiling further as the monster demanded entry. Vers heard Loki’s words, but she refused to listen. She wouldn’t bend an ear to a god who’d hardly proved himself useful. There was undoubtedly already talk about why she hadn’t severed his head from his body.
“Our systems have been updated,” spoke an ensign, “firing courses are laid in, Accuser.”
She glared at Loki, burying that little voice that was caution and tempting her to listen to him.
“Fire,” she commanded as her furious gaze lingered on the god, before looking out the viewing pane.
Kree warheads were nothing to scoff at. Capable of untold destruction, they’d been a key factor in victories as the finite space of their universe shrank due to the anomaly fields. There was no reason to doubt their prowess, and with half a dozen now flying towards the unknown enemy – Vers suspected the monster would be short-lived.
If the intruder had any sort of shielding, it didn’t stop the attack. The missiles reached their mark and detonated, tearing into craft. Turquoise fire gave way to red, and then cascading orange energy erupted as a tentacle was blasted off and sent adrift. Every explosion forced the thing backwards, near completely out of their reality.
The command deck was silent as everyone held their breath. Vers watched with intense fascination.
It was right as she decided to release a sigh of relief that the monster lurched back to life. It crashed back through the hole, tearing fully into their reality in the process. Its tentacles curled back, revealing an armoured core that bloomed like a rose, petals shifting to uncover a seething orange centre.
Vers chose fury over fear.
“Destroy it!” She ordered.
Every targeting screen lit up upon her command, specialists hurrying to comply. But before they could; the technological monster released an orange pulse that cascaded across the distance and passed through the ship, unleashing chaos.
Everyone on the bridge collapsed, a horrific shriek resonating inside their heads. Vers dropped her universal weapon and fell to her knees. Desperate, she covered her ears, trying to drown out a noise that seemed to be coming from everywhere. She saw things she didn’t understand, flashes of a life she didn’t know on an alien world. Then of Hala, with a darkened sun and—
She managed to open her eyes and catch a glimpse of the prisoner. Loki stood unaffected.
Inside his skull, a deep, quaking voice rose out of the proverbial black, tone thunderous and old.
“Loki…”

The full truth isn't something that Loki is willing to admit, not if it means giving up any semblance of remaining dignity. It's important to him not to come across as pathetic or unimpressive. There are still plenty of other layers of truth he can use, the practical and logical ones.
Tumblr media
"I have no particular desire to be thrown into the dungeons of Asgard, bored out of my mind and judged by my people. Doing nothing useful will not improve my situation. I like to have a purpose, and I'd rather see you all reach your greatest potential than watch you die embarrassingly when the Titan finally decides to make his move."
His foot taps impatiently on the metal floor as Tony listens to the other's words, scrutinizing every single thing that the Norse God says as he tries to read between the lines for anything that doesn't ring true. The inventor lets out a deep exhale as he swiftly turns around to grab a chair, flipping it around to sit backwards on it so he can fold his arms onto the head rest and carefully study the God of Mischief.
Tumblr media
"And you'd just be willing to help us with all of that out of the goodness of your heart?" Sarcasm laces his inquiry like venom as it's clear his statement is meant to challenge what Loki is saying, the god has to know that there is no way in hell he'd buy that, at least not without a catch. "What are you after? Come on, what's your angle here?"

Loki's breath hitches as she settles upon him, his desire for her still as strong as it had been. He would fear this to be a trick to claim his power for herself if it weren't that he'd watched her and felt her wants. Even so, it's nerve-wracking to experience it in person, with her wanting him to know.
"It's like enchantment, but more," he explains. "It's giving life to time, to story. All of these realities, in some way, as real as they are, they are fiction. We aren't good or evil, we live for the telling of tales, so it makes some warped sense that we should be gods of story, that we alone can do something like this. My magic infuses the multiverse for as long as it needs it."
Carefully, his hands release the branches. They are connected anyway and secure in place. One hand rests on her hip. The other takes hold of the hand at his cheek and brings it across to one of the timeline threads. He focuses and lets her see two glittering spirit creatures dancing within a nebula; a party on a festival planet; and a sunset that had never been seen by anyone but them. "There are things that make this choice worth it."
His subtle change comforts her - as if he hasn’t lost himself in all the loneliness - and Sylvie falls back into that normal, consistent space of fond amusement with the grin she displays. She can’t care about being watched by him, not now, not when the multiverse is literally at their fingertips and he looks so excited to share.
“Not really,” she huffs, but gives his hands a squeeze and decides to climb up and sit across his lap, taking the liberty of making herself comfortable since she hasn’t ever been able to do this before.
“There. And I meant show me-“ Sylvie insists, gliding a glowing palm down his cheek. “-Wait-“ Her breath pauses and she reaches to touch his woven cape and his cheek again, and her gaze snaps back to his.
“You feel the same. The branches, and you…” She feels it— the same seidr, the same consciousness, the same mental imprint across the branches as the one she’s sitting on. He’s truly a part of it, or it is of him, and that’s… It feels magnificent and terrifying. And thrilling. And… Like it’s welcoming her.

{for her, aka V50, Loki}
“Do you celebrate birthdays? Or things like it? Or have you had so many that it doesn’t matter anymore?” Cordelia blushes. “If you’d be up for it, I’d like to know a day when I can celebrate how super cool and rad you are, Loki.”
Tumblr media
"'Rad'. I think I missed out on that adjective. We used to celebrate each decade rather than an annual birthday, but once it became prevalent enough on Midgard Thor started insisting we all had them yearly as an excuse for a feast or adventure. The Midgardian equivalent of my birthday would be 20th June."
