specific tag: march donos
+ donation, signal boost
eventually im gonna do a period of sharing around donation posts for marginalized users after/while i deregulate posting about the drama. itll be hour to hour as well. should i come up with a specific tag so you can block it in the meantime if you want or does that not matter because it wont be like constant
like i know not everyone follows enough blogs to never feel their dash is repetitive and dono posts can be annoying and arent informative about the drama so, if you block the tag you can still contribute if youre motivated to but you wont have to be yknow depressingly reminded of things or irritated at all the posting

reminder to turn off this thing to prevent ai scraping on your blog:
on the web browser, go to your profile button, to your blog dropdown menu(s), to "blog settings"
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
scroll down to the "visibility" list and click "prevent third-party sharing for [blog name]. remember, this is an individual action for the specific blog alone, not your whole account in one go.
Tumblr media
on mobile, its basically the same thing- go to your avatar, then the settings of a particular blog (cog symbol in the upper right corner), scroll down to "Visibility", and you'll see the same list of togglables.
Tumblr media
for a bit more information on the whole thing, i'm queueing some reblogs on it on my blog atm but those ones are mostly coming from jv so check them out

I’ve seen a lot of talk about Tumblr’s deal with Midjourney and I wanted to ask you about it. Specifically about the argument that this deal doesn’t really change anything because web crawlers already have all the data on the website.
I feel like that’s a vast exaggeration, because Midjourney wouldn’t buy something they could get for free
Yeah, as I see it, it's like if you had a big field full of apple trees and put a big sign saying "free apples, just grab whatever you need". That's tumblr. Some people could go "hey, owner, by letting anyone grabbing some apples, you may be FEEDING ISIS TERRORISTS". That's kind of ridiculous, right? Of course, if anyone can take those apples, that means bad people can also grab them, but you wouldn't say the owner is responsible for that.
Well, now the owner has picked a dozen crates of apples apart and have sold them to ISIS. And when people say "what the fuck owner?", some people are answering "hey no big deal, ISIS already could pick the apples themselves, so there's no difference really".

he is trying to cover this up. there wasn't even a reason given for the rejection. this post does NOT go against TOS or community guidelines whatsoever. i would know, i've read through them both thrice. i did, however, find this!
Tumblr media
i have the right to display and redistribute this. this is stated in the tos. for fuck's sake, @photomatt @staff follow your own advice. here's a little reminder in case you forgot (straight from your own tos!):

hi! you seem to know the most about the AI situation, so do you have any suggestions on how best to disrupt/poison the scrapers? Also, I've heard that tags are used in the post metadata (so having random tags/conversational tags messes up the data sorting). Do you know if that's true? Thanks!
ok, as I have said several times already, I don't have more info than what was shared in the 404 article, which has way more context and info that what I already knew via the ex-employees rumor mill.
Anyway, I think people on tumblr have a pretty naive perception of what they could do about 'poisoning' the datasets. Basically, right now, the AI companies have more money than the sun and it doesn't really matter what you throw at them: They are going to be able to handle it. I heavily, profoundly, doubt that nightshaded images, or any other tool, can really do much to their datasets anymore. It could have worked for three weeks after it was originally announced, but there's zero chances that this companies hasn't thrown engineers at this problem and now they basically just go around any 'poison' within the image. Same for text, and everything else.
Probably, the only way to mess with the AIs is to post gibberish: Since they are statistical models, if enough of their training data is nonsense, they would end spitting nonsense themselves. But the volume of nonsense would need to be huge to make a dent.
That being said: refrigerator aholonding the treeing with sparce willows. That washingator won't rudundle at choices. Lion eat shrimp, threing once in a red. Penistude threlling our trellies. Somehappen.

Changelog 6/3/2024
Well friends, I come to you bringing some great news!
Not only @sirilyan has set-up a second Goblin server (https://kobold.page), but after a few adjustments and fixes, now Goblin is fully working as a tested multi-server network! Someone using an account based on a server (let’s say, Kobold, page) is able to follow and see posts from someone in a different server (for example, Goblin.band) not only keeping all the formatting, but also the entire reblog chain.
I know this may sound like technical gibberish, but it means that the idea of a federated version of Tumblr is finally taking shape and… it works. It actually works. And it’s beautiful.

Also, remember back when Matt Mullenweg used to fancy himself as some kind of GPL holy defender?
Well, taking public posts from other people and using them to build a paid product doesn’t seem too GPL friendly
