Haha, I found an old post where I mentioned her. I had forgotten about the weird Alpha-Bits! We got boxes and boxes of rejected Alpha-Bits cereal!
This is partially in reference to that post about disabilities that I just reblogged:
When I was homeless, one of my favorite shelter regulars was this 85-year-old woman I will call F. She was HILARIOUS and smart and fun to talk to, but very, very frail. She had osteoporosis (among other things) and she used a walker. She was always very pleasant to me and we had several lovely conversations over reject Alpha-Bits.
I heard so many young women call F “a bitch.” This sounded strange to me, because she was always pleasant and she made a lot of jokes.
I found out later that if you tried to help her with basic shit without asking, she would turn on you quite fast, which earned her the reputation of “old bitch” in the shelters. That might not be a bad thing. But yeah, I never offered to help her because she seemed competent. That’s why she was so nice to me. If you grabbed her bags or touched her without asking, THEN she would get on your case, and WITH REASON.
Wait to see if the person might need help. Then ASK, and do what they say. Don’t just grab someone’s bags because you think they’re weak. That is ableist bullshit.
I wish I knew F’s last name because she’s probably not alive anymore, but if she had a funeral, I would have gone. She was a sweet lady.

When I was homeless, yikes, fourteen years ago, there was this elderly woman in my shelter. She was over 80 years old, bad osteoporosis and arthritis, and an absolute hoot. A lot of people didn't like her, but I did. She was always nice to me because I quickly figured out how to treat her. Despite very visible disabilities, she was very independent and a lot of people didn't respect that. Well-meaning people would touch her or her stuff to "help" her and she would rightfully become furious. I knew better than to even think of doing such a thing, so she and I were always cool and we often talked over breakfast.
I assumed she must be dead because of her age but Y'ALL. I SAW HER ON THE STREET. She looks almost the exact same down to her coat. I didn't say hi because that would be awkward and would she even remember me and I thought I would probably creep her out by yelling her name, but I'm so glad to see her around. I hope she has a place. She seemed to be in pretty good shape so I think she must. I stared at her in absolute disbelief because I haven't seen her since late 2010 probably.

I did something I didn't want to do...I joined a Facebook group with my neighbors. I put it off because gross, I don't want to be on FB with my neighbors. Or anyone, honestly. But WOW, a lot more shit goes on in my building than I realized. Can't wait to move to the suburbs!

It's been four days and my head still hurts where I hit it. No, I haven't seen anyone. I think I'm fine (relatively) but I have learned to be careful when I stand up after looking for something under furniture.
I smacked my head REALLY hard yesterday and, um, I might have a mild concussion. I never know if I should be concerned because I literally always feel like I have a concussion. I can check off almost every single concussion symptom on a good day, and my symptoms fluctuate. However, certain things are definitely worse. I'm too busy to deal with this!
I smacked my head on Millie's cat perch of all things. It's way more solid than I realized.

One day you think: I want to die. And then you think, very quietly, actually I want a coffee. I want a nap. A sandwich. A book. And I want to die turns day by day into I want to go home, I want to walk in the woods, I want to see my friends, I want to sit in the sun. I want a cleaner room, I want a better job, I want to live somewhere else, I want to live.

I'm so disgusted with this awful guy I have the misfortune of living close to. The worst neighborhood menace I have ever encountered, and I am an expert in neighborhood menaces. It's not just me, there were three different women with restraining orders against him at one point! That's not the grand total, that's just one moment in time! Frankly, a lot more people should get restraining orders against him!
I'm so stressed out about it.
I know I keep marveling about this, but I don't even live in the same building as he does, or even the same street, yet he's loud and obnoxious and horrible enough that I'm well aware of his behavior!

I am probably going to get subpoenaed again. I don't even care.
I have been having a great weekend, but the New Worst Neighbor in the World has sunk to a new low.
