i think some people missed the point that she wore it in new york (where people from diff backgrounds reside, including jewish people) multiple times and even went to a jewish owned establishment. i mean even if she did it somewhere else, i think the backlash would still be the same but walking with it in front of the very place wherein it is highly offensive? it just feels like a slap in the face to them.
even if she truly had no ill intentions over it, not everybody who saw her walk with it would know that. to them, she's just another one of those hateful bastards who probably wishes evil to them. because she's wearing a the very symbol of the ideology that literally promotes that.
and as an influential celebrity, their whole team knows just how big her reach and influence is. have you ever seen how fans have the power to sell out products just bcs their favorite celebrity used them? rare item or not, young, under and misinformed fans can be influenced into thinking nothing's wrong with the shirt just because their faves wore it and got no backlash, that's how damaging it can be! and i am honestly also appalled by how not a single soul in their team, both the local and international, bothered to tell her that the shirt she's wearing is offensive, nor double checked her photos before posting them in ig.
when you're a celebrity, intentions aren't always important because not everyone will know and bother to know the truth. what the general public knows however, is how you used your influence to do, show and promote goodness or wickedness. what she did however was... even if it was unintentional.
anyway, if u guys can't respect the writers' decisions then go find other writers or go read somewhere else. it's not their obligation to write what you want because it's you requesting from them so you adjust to what they're comfortable with.
yes yes yes to everything that you said! to display nazi imagery in america right now is a charged statement, especially as you said when in NYC and especially in a jewish owned establishment. like just today i saw a video of people with nazi flags and imagery outside disney world. promoting that shit. how is the average passerby in america supposed to look at chaeyoung wearing that shirt and think sheās any different than the neo nazis outside disney right now? even if it was a āmistake,ā itās a grave one and still deserves reproach.
antisemitism is at an all time high in america right now. everyone in my community is terrified all the time. and clearly her promoting the imagery and ideology intentionally or not has emboldened people to spew nazi antisemitic bullshit and feel like they can get away with defending her behavior! that is exactly why her actions and her āapologyā are not something iām willing to brush under the rug. she used her influence and platform to promote that imagery, she should be using it now to do some antisemitism education to make up for her actions if sheās truly sorry.
but truthfully i canāt say iām surprised by peoples blind defense. disappointed, yes, but not surprised. so many people donāt take antisemitism seriously and this just continues to prove that to me.

sadly where i am the air has been affected by the california wildfires so itās hard to go outside right now š but i am preparing to go on vacation this upcoming week with my girlfriend so thatāll definitely lift my spirits!

Hey bunnie good to see your back! Sorry you have to deal with some dumb anons but I understand your point. As far as writing goes get back into it whenever your ready, for cheer au what if you make chae a last minute transfer. Like ātransferā the character to another school so it makes sort of sense with the way the story goes or something like that. Just a thought!
hi there! itās fine really, i think theyāve settled down now.
i am definitely considering that as a possibility for the story, thank you for the input!!

i do wanna let yk about some things regarding chaeyoung and the shit she wore
1. it was proven that the shirt isnāt rare, it gets printed all the time and it can be found for cheap anywhere online and in thrift stores
2. south koreans who went to high school around the same time chaeyoung did have statements about their curriculums and how the nazi symbol was never taught, they simply never learned about it
3. in her apology, (which i believe was short and concise so people would actually read it and understand) she said she wasnāt aware of the meaning. i take that as like, she thought it was just an alt band tee or something like that and just didnāt know about the symbol and what it meant when it was tilted, see as itās so common in south korea
of course, intent ā impact but as a jewish woman, i do believe that she is sincere and would never intentionally promote antisemetic and racist ideologies. sheās never shown any sign of being like that at all, and i truly believe she was just ignorant and unaware.
but, you are the boss of this blog so if you donāt ever feel comfy writing for chae again iāll understand and i hope everyone does too. stay safe bunnie <3
all the reprints i saw had the symbol removed but thatās only what i saw, iām not saying i donāt believe you. the original listing i saw for the shirt was like $500 or something outrageous like that. regardless, i donāt think thatās necessarily the part to focus on about all this. i think the part to focus on is she wore something, intentionally or not, with the symbol on it and tons of people are jumping to defend it. i also think given she is such a huge public figure there is a different level of responsibility placed on her, especially when touring in america, especially when inside a jewish owned business.
your opinion and stance is totally 100% your own and youāre so very entitled to that and i understand how youāve developed said stance, but it is not mine. as i have said before, she is out of my good graces for the time being. iām not expecting everyone to feel the same, i am simply asking people to not be willfully obtuse and choose to misunderstand my particular stance.
you stay safe as well anonie. itās a scary world out there

do you think those anons know anything abt diversity? they sound like they all live in a community full of just clones of each other
or maybe they're all just bots lmao
i truly donāt know. i think antisemitism in particular is an area a lot of people are severely under and misinformed about and many people donāt seem to want to become more informed. itās unfortunate and very scary for the future of our world.

you all sound incredibly stupid fighting someone for their own personal decision and choice to not write about someone. like please go touch grass. if you wanna ignore it and still continue to read fics including someone then go do it instead of complaining to bunnie who i can tell you for a fact does not give a fuck if yāall agree or disagree, the rule is the rule. youāre camping in someoneās inbox over something so stupid that will not change no matter how much you complain. grow up. bunnie has every right to do whatever the FUCK he wants.
also welcome back friend - i speak for us all when i say we have greatly missed your presence here. but please take your time jumping back in - it can be a lot clearly cuz people are still disrespectful. š
so true bestie like harping on the point does not change my mind one bit. i do not understand peoples need to try and validate their own opinions and decisions by demanding everyone shares it especially with something like this.
i will definitely take my time jumping back in, i may not be on consistently, but i am happy to be back in the swing of things even a little š«¶š»

I don't understand the difficulty ppl have on clicking the block button, but noooo, they would rather argue for infinity with you
You've made your point clear and yet they think they'll magically change it just by throwing a couple of sentences
Respect people's choices of not associating with Chaeyoung anymore as this situation is more than the typical kpop drama, it concerns MILLIONS AND MILLIONS OF PEOPLE
Some of which directly suffered the consequences of WW2 BY SURVIVING THROUGH IT
iāll never understand peoples incessant need to defend the actions of a virtual stranger just because theyāre a celebrity, but š¤·š» hey what do i know anyways right
the thing i canāt take is the nitpicking. like taking one thing you say and trying to dissect it to hell instead of actually internalizing the point being made. focusing on semantics instead of the bigger picture which is, as you said, the direct consequences of an event like the shoah and ww2 and the imagery that came out of it.

Why are you spreading misinformation? the shirt she wore isnāt rare / hard to find nor was her apology from chatgpt. This just shows that youāre not as educated as you think you are and you need to stop speaking about this whole thing in general. Write about her or donāt but stop trying to act like you know everything when you donāt.
i didnāt say it was from chatgpt i said it sounded like it was š i know it wasnāt, i just mean thatās how removed and disingenuous it sounded
i saw listings for that specific shirt online and it was certainly looking as though it was expensive and hard to get your hands on. not that iām really in the business of looking for shirts like that, obviously, but the nature of where she got it and how became a point of discussion i saw several places. she at least had to have bought it deliberately seeking it out.
i have never said i know everything. but to say i am not educated about this kind of issue is simply untrue. not that that stuff really matters in terms of ākpop dramaā apparently.

Iām a big chaeyoung fan, but iāve also recently began to lose interest in her and kpop as a whole since that. I do still love to read stories with her in them since usually itās not actually her and her character is altered from her irl self, but I understand why you wouldnāt want to write about her anymore and support you all the way.
Will you be getting rid of your older stories with her in them/ swapping her out for someone else? I think the best course would be to just write her out in a subtle was as to not disturb the rest of the stories plot tbh, but iāll go along with whatever you do.
Itās good to see you back btw!! You and all of my other favorite writers took a break around the same time and I was left reading the same stories over and over again (not that I minded it) š©·š©·
p.s my main reason for being less interested is the fact that she didnāt give an actually good apology and just kinda overlooked the situation, which i thought was just dumb on her part since it would gain her more hate. I am not a chaeyoung hater, I just think she should own up!
i totally get where youāre coming from. i feel that especially in my fics the idols being written about oftentimes serve as nothing more than a name and face to put to a character, so i understand exactly what youāre saying. i donāt think iāll go back and alter anything iāve written in the past, just simply change my course of action for the future. i am leaning towards just swapping her with someone else so the plot stays as undisturbed as possible.
it is funny how so many of us took breaks all around the same time! one braincell shared among us it seems š
yeah her apology was definitely lackluster, to say the least. i wouldāve liked to see something a little more genuine as well, and if sheād extended like material support in terms of using her platform for education that wouldāve been much better too. like itās not hard to write an apology that doesnāt sound like it came off chatgpt

as a non-western and non-native english speaker, there are lots of things that millions of people think is common knowledge for everyone but to me isn't. some i even have to unpack and unlearn all by myself as i grow up and learn more and more.
she grew up in a country that has lots of sw*stika plastered around, there's even one right in front of the current jyp building, because hinduism is big in korea. whilst she probably does know issues abt the WWII (i mean, korea is still split if half bcs of it) and the n*z*s, i would get why she was desensitized with the symbol.
please note that i do not condone her actions nor ask you (or anyone for that matter) to forgive her because what she did was really hurtful esp since she's an influential celeb. im also not asking you or even other writers to write her again but at least see where she's coming from.
i donāt know how to tell you this but i quite literally do not care if she had no idea or was desensitized or whatever. not having ill intent doesnāt mean harm isnāt done. that symbol and the ideology behind it was part of a mass genocide event that has devastated the jewish population even to this day. the rhetoric from said mass genocide is still prevalent in society and antisemitism is consistently rising year after year after year, with violent attacks on synagogues happening more and more regularly, some of which happened to people i attend shabbos services with. when i went to rosh hashanah and yom kippur services last year we had to have security at every single entrance and you couldnāt even get in to the service if you hadnāt pre registered because of how dangerous it is. so i really do not care about her lack of education. the impact was the same. especially from her place as an influential celebrity, on tour in america, visiting a jewish owned business from what i hear. itās unacceptable, regardless of intent.
not to mention, the shirt she had on did not have a swastika in the hinduism context. it was specifically the antisemitic, nazi hate symbol. it was also a very rare shirt she seemingly had to hunt pretty hard to find. and again, anything that looks even emotely like a nazi hate symbol, most jews are running in the other direction. because it is terrifying, and oftentimes means violence. this is so far beyond kpop drama, this has real world implications i donāt think many people are trying to understand.
she will never be in my good graces again. and if her āapologyā was genuine, she would fully understand that. not that i think she gives a fuck about my opinion or anyone elseās, but someone who has done something bigoted (intentionally or not) and apologized should never be expecting forgiveness from the marginalized community they harmed. that defeats the purpose of the apology.
i know you mean well, and iām not saying that nothing you have to say has merit, but iām just trying to put this in perspective for you as well. the shoah and the imagery associated with it have grave connotations for not only jewish people, but many other groups impacted as well. one little apology cannot undo that damage.

man that one anon getting so pressed... i cant say anything because the whole thing doesnt directly effect me, but geez bro there's a reason why it's such a big issue...
you as the writer can do what you think is best. i'll support whatever decision you decide to go with.
- āļø
right likeā¦caring more about kpop drama than the safety and comfort of jewish people is wild to me. i will never understand.
but thank you for your continual support š«¶š» i truly appreciate you so much

ps: perhaps you could change chaeyoungs character for someone else, like, having the same role and stuff but with the charaxteristics (and name) of someone else
this is something i never thought of! thank you for the suggestion anonie. iāll definitely have to consider that.

Any way you could add a plot point in cheer au where Chaeyoung changes schools or smth and then kinda lock her away from the whole au?
Also you're the writer, you decide what's best, so if you're not comfortable writing Chae om your fics, I don't think anyone will question if she just, doesn't appear again (actually they will question, but they don't rule you so fuck them š¤·āāļø)
thank you for like, an actually helpful answer. that was something i considered as well, that might be the avenue i take honestly. iāll have to rework my plans for the fic as a whole.
and very true anonie. i appreciate that sentiment
