Five Senses of Love
Tumblr media
Anthony Bridgerton x Fem!Reader
Warnings: pining from Anthony and reader, Daphne and Benedict unintentionally (intentionally) being the biggest instigators, the most fluff I’ve ever written.
Word Count: 3.4k
Author’s Note: To the anon that said my bridgerton phase would land me here, this one’s for you. // also this was a random middle of the night idea that I thought would be cute so just go with it?? idk if it even makes any sense to tell you the truth
—–
Sight
The sun shining down on Aubrey Hall, the sound of laughter filling his ears as he stepped out of the study. Hyacinth and Gregory chasing one another through the front foyer. Their mother shouted after them, “please! Stop running!”
Anthony smiled as he walked down the staircase, down to reach his mother. “How is it that they always seem to have energy in the morning?” She asks him, linking her arm with his.
“That is a question no one has the answer to.” The pair starts to head out of the front doors when a carriage begins pulling up. “Are we expecting a guest?” Anthony asks his mother, the two of them watching the footmen open the carriage door, helping a woman step out.
“Lady Bridgerton!” you smile at the woman, her expression matching yours.
“Darling! So good of you to join us.” Violet lets go of her son, walking towards you and pulling you in for a hug.
Anthony watches the exchange between his mother and the woman. You seemed familiar but he couldn’t quite place where from. Judging by the way you were being held by his mother, you had to be a close relation to the Bridgertons.
“Anthony, surely you must remember miss y/n; Lady l/n’s daughter. She and Daphne were attached at the hip as children.” she smiled, reintroducing you to Anthony.

Word Count: 5.2k+
Tumblr media
It was hot. Way too hot. You’d been out weeding the garden for far too long now. A sweaty mess with dirt coating far too many different parts of your body. Super cute look. You were on a mission to get the damn garden bed weeded out. You’d, very fortunately, inherited the house from your aging grandma who wanted to downsize. You’d visited throughout the years and fell in love with the home and the area. The best thing about having a small family is that nobody fought you for the home.
But boy, were you in over your head. It wasn’t a massive home you’d just never owned one before and things were a tad overwhelming. Everything suddenly becoming your responsibility when you were least expecting it. Not that you were complaining. You owned a paid off home. How much better could it get than that?
The only thing that seemed to rip you right from your focus of pulling weeds was the small voice of boy behind you wondering about you, “Daddy! Who’s that new lady?” Shit. You were in the middle of crawling around the damn garden bed. Cursing lightly, you stood and turned towards the sidewalk with a smile on your face while simultaneously attempting wipe the dirt off your face but only smudging it further.
When you turned your heart about sunk to the floor. Why you? Why of all people that had to walk on by was it him? You were looking into the eyes of perhaps one of the most handsome men you’d come across in all of your years. And you were covered in dirt? The universe was playing a cruel trick on you.
Looking down at yourself you cursed yourself again. Quickly you looked back to the boy responding to him, “Hello.” You waved to the small boy keeping your eyes off his extremely attractive father, “I just moved in here.”
His eyes lit up, “A new neighbor?” He looked up to what you assumed to be his dad with big bright eyes pulling on his pants, “What happened to Mrs. Fields?” He looked you over curiously.
An interested one, he took a few steps forward to converse with you. A fearless little guy, “Mrs. Fields is my grandma. She wanted to go live in a warmer place, so she let me have her home and she moved down south.”
He took another few steps, almost to you now. His father had a pleading look in his eyes as if to apologize for his chatty son, “Cool! Do you like dinosaur’s?” He asked you excitedly.
“I love dinosaurs.” You knelt down so you were chatting with him on his level, “They’re like the coolest animals.” You responding drawing both a soft smile out of his father and fist pump from the little one.
“I know right!” He stepped even closer now, “Which one is your favorite?”
“Jack.” His father put a gentle hand on his sons shoulder, “You can ask about dinosaur’s another time. She’s busy.”
You shook your head looking up to him from your crouched position, “It’s alright. Gives me an excuse to take a break.” You turned back to Jack giving him a sweet smile, “My favorite dinosaur has to be the Velociraptor.”
He nodded excitedly at you, “That’s a good pick, but not the best…. Wait, what’s your name?” He asked after realizing he hadn’t asked earlier.
“I’m Y/N. It’s nice to meet you Jack.” You held you hand out for the little boy to take or reject.
He happily took your hand in his, albeit being three times the size. With a cheeky grin coating his face he responded, “It’s nice to meet you Y/N. That’s my dad! Daddy”
You looked away from Jack at his dad smiling at him, dirty face, and all, “Hi dad.” You waved up to him.
You could’ve sworn a hint of a blush crossed his face, “Aaron.” He held out his hand for you to take. Offering help up from the squat you’d been stuck in for a little too long. You took it feeling all too comfortable doing so, “We live next door.” He pointed over to his house, “Let either of us know if you ever need anything. Jack here loves to help.” He patted his sons head. For some reason that didn’t surprise you, not a bit.
“Thank you.” Your raging anxiety of home ownership dwindling a bit as you got to know the seemingly handy man next door.
He nodded smiling down at you, “We mean it. Now, let’s go Jack. You have homework to finish before soccer tonight.”
He groaned, “Okay dad. Bye Y/N.” He hugged your leg quickly before waltzing off with a pep in his step.
“Bye Jack.” You laughed watching him run over to his home, sliding in through the back door they left open.
“He’s a cutie.” You turned back to the rather striking man who just happened to be your neighbor. You wondered who his wife was. What she looked like. He had to have one right?
He ran a hand through his hair letting out a soft sigh, “He’s a handful, that’s for sure.”
“Aren’t all young boys?” You grinned.
He nodded, “That might be the truth.” He let out a small laugh, “I’ll let you get back to it. Nice meeting you Y/N.” His smile made him even more handsome. Damn. Did you have a crush on the older neighbor or what?
You nodded, “Likewise, see you around Aaron.” He tried to slow his racing heart hearing his name off your lips. Oh, he was in trouble. He waved going to the front of the house before disappearing within it.
See him around you did, whenever he was home at least. You’d become fast friends with Jack often playing with his dinosaurs in your shared backyards. You couldn’t say no to the sweet face when he asked so kindly, not even if you tried. Aaron had told you plenty of times that it was okay to ignore him, but you couldn’t. Especially when Aaron was home, he’d always come outside and join the two of you when he had the time.
You’d gotten to know, and love, the far too kind man over the last few months. You’d learned of his devastating past. You’d felt awful for him and just as equally broken for Jack. He’d lost his mom before he even got to know her and cherish her.
He’d gotten to know you too. Falling just as much for you as you did him. You were something nobody, but he and Jack knew about. A simple pleasure to come home to. He’d learned how you were a nurse, but you were back in school going for a Nurse Practitioner position. Aaron admired your drive for what you did. He really just admired you. The far too cute for your own good neighbor he’d never admitted he had a crush on.
You asked about work. He didn’t tell you much. But as the months progressed his lips became like putty around you. Anything you asked he answered. It felt to right to fight whatever this was. You were too young for him. Too you, he had to keep telling himself.
You’d learned about the team. How Derek was a player but a lover deep down. How Reid was the boy genius of the group. How JJ turned out to excel as a profiler. You’d learned about them all. It felt like you knew them. It felt odd to think you knew people who didn’t have a clue about you.
So, one summer evening a devious plan sparked in your mind as you were sitting in the sandbox across from Aaron. You smiled up at him giving him a look. A look he picked up on, “What?” He asked making sure not to draw Jack’s attention away from the castle he was building.
You shook your head, “Nothing, just thinking.”
“About?” He pressed leaning forward with his elbows on his knees looking right at you.
“We should have a cookout. A barbeque. When you guys are here for a weekend.” You said as nonchalantly as possible feeling the nerves bubble up when you spoke.
He raised an eyebrow processing it. He’d kept you as his own for so long. Would it ruin things if he mixed his personal life with his work life like it had so often before? He knew deep down that’s why he was hiding you away. Every time these paths crossed bad, bad things happened. He couldn’t be the reason why somebody else got hurt. He wouldn’t.
“If you want.” You added making sure there was no pressure. You understood his apprehension to letting you all the way in.
“Sure.” The words were out of his mouth before he really thought about it too much longer. The grin that crossed your face was all worth it though. He’d really do anything to see that smile.
“Really?”
He nodded, “Next weekend? If we don’t get called in? I can ask the team Monday.” He didn’t want to blow their phones up on a weekend off. Rare as they were. He knew the chances were slim that it’d happen that weekend, but he wanted to show you he was committed to it.
You nodded gleefully, “That sounds great. I’ll iron out the details this weekend.” You were a little nervous at the thought. But you knew they had to be great if he talked so highly of them.
Tumblr media
He was wrong. They had an easy case that week that brought them home early on a Friday. They all said their goodbyes planning to meet at his place around 6:00 that night for the cookout. You’d gotten the final confirmation and started preparing everything the second he gave you the green light. It didn’t have to be perfect but you sure as hell wanted it to go smoothly.
There was nothing to stress about, just as Aaron had reassured you numerous times that evening leading up to everybody arriving. He could see the anxiety radiating off you
“Would you stop staring?” You asked pacing back and forth trying to think of any last-minute details.
He shook his head, “Not until you relax.”
You let out a huff. It was sweet but not the right time, “I just want it to go well, that’s all. I’ll relax once everybody is here.”
He was right, naturally. There was nothing to be stressed about. Each one more lovely than the next. Jack had gravitated towards you most of the night, even holding your hand and hiding behind you when Rossi was playing with him. Derek noticed Hotch watching you throughout the night. Smiling more than he’d ever seen the man before in his life. Derek clocked it quickly. Hotch probably didn’t even realize what he was doing. A man who was about to deny his feelings.
Derek had cornered his boss in the kitchen of his home not having a clue you were sitting in the room over responding to a few texts you ignored while getting the party ready.
“Hotch, what the hell?” You heard Derek’s booming voice from where you were sitting. You peaked up from your phone way too curious to hear the conversation that was so easily heard from the kitchen.
“What?” He sounded a bit taken aback by the confrontation, if only you could see their faces.
Derek laughed, “You know what.”
A brief pause, “I’m afraid I don’t Morgan.” He sounded a little agitated now. Nothing like he did when he was with you. It was interesting to watch him, listen to him, in such a different environment than the two of you had found so often.
You didn’t know Derek, but you had to assume he was rolling his eyes at that moment, “You like her. Your neighbor. Y/N.” This, you were not expecting.
“What are you talking about?” He answered. Ouch. Your heart was still racing though. What in the hell was he going to say next?
“Don’t play dumb. You’ve been smiling like a love drunk fool for the last two hours. You’ve been watching her like a hawk.” Profilers were scary. You hadn’t even noticed. Far too preoccupied with socializing and making sure everything was going okay.
He sighed, “She’s too young Derek.” You frowned. That was just untrue. You were in your late twenties. What’s twelve or so years?
“She’s not too young. Stop that. You’re talking yourself out of it.” Derek replied to his friend.
What came next hurt, hurt deeply, “She’s not my type though. She’s too young and not my type. It would never happen.” The sting that came from your heart radiated with each pulse.
Derek let out a howl, “That’s rich Hotchner. Whatever you want to tell yourself boss man.”
You didn’t let yourself hear the rest of the conversation. You shot right out of his house making a beeline towards the ladies with a fake ass smile adorning it. You’d successfully avoided him the rest of the night not able to bear the thought of looking at him. Who were you kidding? He was just being kind to you because you were kind to his son. Nothing more. Nothing less. No hard feelings. But you had the feelings. Real feelings that weren’t going to go away unless he went away. Operation avoid Aaron Hotchner was a go.
You’d been successful the better part of a month. Lucky for you he had been pretty wrapped up in cases leaving you and Jack more time to connect while Jess watched him. When Aaron was there you’d strategically leave when he showed up bidding a goodnight with some lame ass excuse. Jack would wine and Aaron would give you a pained nod in response. You never gave them much time to question you before you dashed home.
Aaron wasn’t dumb. This was his job for God’s sake. He knew it had something to do with him, but he couldn’t pinpoint what he could’ve done, and it was slowly driving him mad. Jack was getting frustrated too. You’d be fine until dad came around. He needed to figure it out. He missed you. He missed laughing and smiling with you.
He’d thought about it for days while he was off on a case. He thought about it as the team landed at the airport late on a Saturday night merging into Sunday morning. You on the other hand were having the time of your life out with your friends drinking far too much. Tipsiness, soon to be drunkenness, consumed your body throughout the night. You pouted when your friends pulled you into the backseat of one of their boyfriends SUV’s, making sure to drop all the girls off safe and sound.
You’d waved them off before you had the chance to actually enter the house. You fumbled with your keys before finding the right one. A shiver ripped down your spine, it was chilly. Odd for a summer evening you thought to yourself.
You turned the key in the lock only to rip the key right in half as you turned it. One half in your hand and the other stuck in the lock, “Fuck.” You began to panic. Your spare key was with a friend so you couldn’t even get in through the back. You tried to pick the key out of the lock only to be met with resistance. You were far too drunk to be dealing with this right now. The lock kept going in and out of focus.
You looked down at your phone, no. No, there was no way in hell you were calling him. You were too young and not his type. You couldn’t be the burden. Think, you had to think. After standing there for far too long without a damn thought in your mind you sat down on the bench you had outside. No locksmith’s would be open at this hour. Your parents were out of state. You didn’t have any family around. You could try and call a friend, but they were all probably still too drunk and passed out by now.
You groaned laying back on the bench thankful you’d at least turned the house light on before you left. Deciding that sleep would be better than lying awake dizzy all night you tried your best to get some sleep. Teeth chattering you curled up in a ball trying to preserve some warmth it felt like sleep would never come.
You must’ve fallen asleep at some point because when you were woken up very abruptly it was still dark. You let out a small yelp before thrashing out at whomever grabbed your wrist.
“It’s me.” That familiar voice calmed you down instantly. Your thrashing stopped but your head still spun. Yup, you were definitely still drunk. Damn tequila sodas were lethal to you. But you’d never stop.
“What?” You asked far too confused. Shivering even more than you were earlier. What time was it anyway?
He pulled you up in a swift motion shrugging his jacket off placing it around your shivering frame softly, “What are you doing?” He asked urgently feeling how cold you really were as he held onto your frozen wrists.
You mumbled something incoherent feeling the ill effects of the cold. You wrapped his warm jacket around you further trying to find any ounce of warmth you could in it. It smelled too damn good on top of it. It made your already dizzy head even fuzzier.
He placed a gentle hand on your cheek trying to get you to look at him, “Can you hear me?” His heart was racing. One moment he was pulling into the driveway. He always looked over at your house just to check, he always did when he pulled in late. His heart about dropped out of his body when he saw you laying there. He hadn’t thought much of it before running over to you. You were okay. You were fine. When you didn’t respond to his calls he had to resort to shaking you gently.
You mumbled some more clear “Yes’s”, but he still didn’t buy it. Not a bit. He looked you over quickly making sure you weren’t hurt before turning your body to his.
“That’s it.” He didn’t waste a second more before scooping you up into his arms with ease. You leaned your head into his chest shamelessly absorbing the warmth within you. It just felt too good to pass up. You’d let yourself be embarrassed later.
Once he got you inside he set you down on the couch. He wrapped you from head to toe in a few different blankets. You nuzzled in suddenly very thankful your neighbor had not only found you put kind of saved your ass. You were cold. Freezing. Who knows what you would’ve been like in the morning. Frozen most likely.
“I put a few blankets in the dryer for ten minutes. That should help warm you up.” Aaron squatted down so he was level with your horizontal body. With the utmost caution he brushed some hair out of your eyesight. Your body shivered at his touch sending a grimace to his face.
“Thank you.” You were more coherent but totally tipsy. The effects of the alcohol had finally started dying down, but it was still there.
His eyes snapped to yours. He must’ve been thinking the same thing. Not expecting you to be coherent just yet, “What the hell were you doing? Thinking? You could’ve been attacked out there. You could’ve frozen to death out there Y/N.” He sighed knowing he needed to reel it back. You were probably just as freaked out as he was.
You turned away. His stare suddenly too much for you to handle, “I’m sorry.” You closed your eyes willing the alcohol to just go away.
He ran a hand through his dark hair. He needed to try again, “What happened?” There, that was a start.
You started on how you went out with your friends and ending with the “My key snapped in the lock.” Holding up the broken stub still attached to your keyring.
Aaron frowned taking it from you, “Why didn’t you call.”
You shrugged, “Didn’t want to bother you.”
A groan escaped his lips, “You are never a bother. You have to know that. Please, just call me next time, okay?” Again, he wracked his brain for anything that he could’ve done. Why you’d pulled back so suddenly on him. It just didn’t make sense. What happened at the cookout? What did he do?
“Okay.” You didn’t feel like arguing. Not anymore. You were tired and cold but thankfully warming up. You knew that’d appease the man.
He sat down from the kneeling position, “Thank you.”
You didn’t respond only nodding a little. You finally felt warm. Wiggling your toes, you sighed in relief. He just watched you. Watched as your eyes drooped, clearly tired. Before he could respond the dryer went off. He shot to his feet the moment he heard it go off, “Wait here.”
You didn’t listen. You shrugged off the blankets. Why oh why were you still so drunk? You tried shrugging it off. Pushing off the couch you stood to your feet wobbling in the slightest. You hadn’t made it a few steps before you heard his voice again.
“What are you doing?” His scolding voice asked you. Your eyes shot up from the floor looking right at him. Blood rushed right to your cheeks. Busted. What else would’ve happened? You weren’t thinking right.
“Walking.” You smiled hesitantly feeling the room begin to spin around you.
He didn’t return the smile. His lips drawn in a harsh line. Mean Aaron Hotchner was terrifying. You wobbled slightly before stepping to the side.
“What were you thinking? You could’ve died out there! You were half frozen when I found you. Somebody could have found you before I did! Did you even think? You’ll be lucky if you don’t catch pneumonia let alone a nasty cold.” He dropped the warm blankets on the ground ready for the inevitable. He was pissed but he was trying to reel it in for your sake. You looked like a scared deer caught in some headlights.
You shook your head quickly, “I’m sorry.” You mumbled for a second time wiping your eyes quickly, not daring to cry in front of him right now. It was too much though, he was too much, “I can’t… I can’t do this.” You let out trying to walk around him. But between the tears, alcohol, achy muscles, and him you nearly tripped right onto your face had he not been standing right there. With quick reflexes Aaron caught you before you toppled completely. He pulled you up into his arms.
“What is going on Y/N?” His eyes searched yours as he steadied you back on your feet, desperate for some kind of answer. You stepped back away from his burning grip you liked far too much. Far, far too much for somebody who didn’t like you. Staying away from Aaron Hotchner was just not working. The operation was suddenly amiss.
Fuck it. Who cares if he knew? You’d blame the alcohol for this confession anyway, “I heard you.” You let out.
He shook his head, unsure of what you were referring to, “Where? What’d you hear?” He was afraid you’d heard some gruesome detail of his job he’d never be able to recover from. He wasn’t expecting you to say the next words that came out of your mouth though.
“At the barbeque. You and Derek in the kitchen.” You looked down and away. Anywhere but his eyes, you just couldn’t. Not after admitting that.
He thought for a moment and cursed. How could he have been so stupid? You watched as he registered your words. His mouth opened to say something before it closed, taking it back. Never letting that thought come to life.
You couldn’t take the silence, not knowing what he was thinking, “I’m sorry, let me call a friend. I’ll get out of here.”
He shook his head quickly, “No, please don’t.” He picked up a blanket before wrapping it around you at a distance, “Stay. Sit. Please?” He spoke in broken sentences as he watched you. Watched as you went through the different options in your head.
Of course, you would. You’d do anything for him, that much was clear. A sucker for Aaron Hotchner. You walked over to the kitchen table with him close in tow just in case you were to stumble again. He only relaxed when you were seated and steady. You place your hands on the table waiting for him to say something. You were at a loss for words, it was his turn to speak.
He looked around before his eyes landed on your glassy ones, “You weren’t supposed to hear that.” It sounded awful as it came out of his mouth, and he knew it. He knew it from the way your eyebrow arched up as if to question him.
You couldn’t help the light chuckle that escaped your lips, “Clearly.”
“No.” He groaned palming his hands across his face, “That’s not what I meant. I just wanted him to back off is all. It was the easiest thing to do to get him to do so.” Aaron pleaded both with his hands and his eyes right next to you at the table.
You rolled your eyes. You wanted to believe him. You really did. But were you too young? Were you not his type? I mean you were you. Not unattractive but not the most beautiful creature to walk across the stage either.
“Y/N, Jesus, I…” He sighed taking one of your hands by surprise. Your eyes finally found his again. He’d finally gotten your attention again, “I feel things for you that I shouldn’t. You aren’t too young for me but I’m far too old for you. You’re incredible. Kind. Sweet. One of the funniest people I’ve ever met. The way you treat Jack is unlike anything I’d ever dreamed of. As hard as it is for me to say, you should find somebody that isn’t as old as me.” He smiled giving your hand a squeeze before hesitantly dropping it.
You let out a breath you’d been holding in. Well, he’d laid it all out on the line for you. It made sense. But it didn’t. He didn’t even give a chance to voice your opinion. You didn’t care. It didn’t bother you. You in fact had never met anybody like him before. No man had ever asked you the question he’d asked you before. Gotten to know you so deeply, right down to your core. It wasn’t even really your fault you fell in love with the man as quickly as you did. He did everything you wanted, you needed.
You took his hand back, relishing in the feeling, “What if I don’t want to?”
“You should.” He tried once more.
But you weren’t having it, “Not.”
He shook his head letting his fingers lace with yours, “Y/N.”
“Aaron.” You widened your eyes giving his hand a squeeze this time, “Can I have a word now?”
He nodded, “Yeah, sorry.” That was the second time you’d seen a blush on his cheeks. He must’ve been feeling awfully vulnerable or maybe he was finally letting you in.
“You’re unlike any man I’ve ever met Aaron Hotchner. You’ve made me feel things I’ve never ever felt or dreamed of feeling before and you’ve only been my friend. You too are so kind, incredibly sweet, the most thoughtful guy and the best dad I’ve seen. You balance everything so beautifully. You’re a light and I love being around you if you’d want me to that is.” You felt as his thumb brushed up and down your index finger. A chill shot right up your arm and down your back when you realized what he was doing.
“I know I shouldn’t, but I like you. A lot more than I should.” He pulled your hand up so he could kiss the back of it. You watched as his lips brushed across the back of your hand so gently it only made you ache for something more. That was just cruel.
You grinned squeezing his hand tight, “I like you too. A whole lot. Who cares what you should or shouldn’t feel. That’s stupid. I like you. You like me. It’s that simple.” It was a combination of everything that had your eyes watering. It felt so damn good to spit it out at him. To let him know how you felt. To ramble everything out. You didn’t just like him. You loved the damn man.
He laughed shaking his head. You admired him as you watched the smile grow on his face, “Is it that simple?”
You shrugged, “I don’t see why it couldn’t be.”
He stood from the seat pulling you up with him. He pulled you close seeing as you were still as unsure of your own steps as ever, “How much have you had to drink tonight?” Damn profilers know everything, not that it wasn’t terribly obvious.
Might as well play it off, right? You leaned forward whispering in his ear, “You sound like a scary officer when you ask that.” You noticed the small shiver that rocked his body as you did so. A small, satisfied smile graced your lips as you drew back.
He shook his head running his eyes up and down your frame wrapped in a blanket, “Are you warm enough?”
You saluted him, “Yes, sir. And for the record I only had eight drinks tonight.”
He laughed, “Stop that. This is serious.” He put his hands on your shoulders to steady you out, “You have no idea how bad I want to kiss you right now.” He pulled back, as much as he didn’t want to.
You whined looking up to him, “Then do it.”
“No can-do pretty lady. You’re intoxicated.” He answered far too quickly for your liking.
“So? I can still make decisions.” You challenged his ability to use reason. So persistent you were being.
“Afraid not, let’s get you to sleep.” He let his hands fall from your shoulders.
You frowned, “Oh, come on Aaron.” Maybe pouting would work. But no, he was too much of a gentleman for your own good.
He shook his head quickly, “Let’s make a deal. How about, if in the morning you still want to kiss me, I’ll let you do just that?”
You sighed, “Fine. Come find me first thing though. Promise me that?” You started walking towards the couch before a light tug at your wrist stopped you.
He nodded in response to you, “I promise. There’s a guest room sweetheart. Let me tuck you in.” He pointed up the steps.
You nodded sheepishly feeling his eyes on you the entire way up. Before he could protest you pulled off your top off leaving you in a tank top and jean shorts, comfortable enough. He gulped as he watched the entire ordeal play out before him, thankful you weren’t just in a bra.
“Sleep tight.” He brushed the stray hairs out of your face once you slid under the covers, fighting every urge in him to lean down and kiss you goodnight. Not yet.
“Night Aaron.” You yawned letting the warmth of the bed consume you, “Can’t wait to kiss the crap out of you in the morning.”
He laughed, that full hearty Aaron Hotchner laugh that warmed your soul, “Goodnight sweetheart. I’ll find you first thing.” A smile adorned your face as you fell asleep to those words.

Oh my! I love it, I love it, I love it!!!
something like ms.honey 2
Tumblr media
cw: fluff, a bit of angst, mention of haley, flashback scene, friends to lovers, hotch being emotionally constipated
“I can’t do it,” you mutter on the phone and your friend sighs.
“You most definitely can, don’t chicken out.”
You really can’t, you cannot go on this date. It’ll be a waste of time and a waste of money.
What you’d rather be doing is spending the day with your grumpy neighbour and his energetic eight year old who loves all things sweet just like you.
Except, you’ve not seen them in five days.
Aaron’s more than likely away on a case, and Jack’s with Jessica, but there’s not been a single text and you can feel dread setting it.
You want to reach out, but that feels like more than an admission of worry and you’re not sure if you want to delve into what else it could be.
It’s a little mind numbing the way the Hotchner’s have wormed their way into every routine you have and now that they’re not part of it, it feels like something is missing.
“I think I’m just gonna stay in and do class prep.” there’s a finality in your voice that makes your friend sigh.
“Alright, just,” she takes a breath, “crack a bottle of red.”
You hang up after that, rifling through your cabinets for your craft stuff.
You’re teaching the kids about shapes and slightly about fractions, but you wanted it to be fun- so it required a sacrifice to your Saturday night.
Construction paper in varying colours and Youtube tutorials were how you spent about three hours before your phone rang.
Sighing, you slide ‘answer’ without even looking at the screen.
“Hello?” there’s no answer on the line, just a crackle and a pop.
“Hello?” you pull the phone away from your ear and see ‘AH.’ Frowning, you say a little frustratedly, “Aaron?”
“It’s Jack,” there’s lots of whispering and you get nervous. “Daddy’s downstairs.”
“Are you okay, J?” you find yourself asking, standing and reaching for your keys.
“Daddy’s friends from work are here.” you take a peek out your kitchen window, but see no cars at their house.
“Where baby?” your heart is hammering in your chest.
“My old house, there was a problem.”
“Can you get your dad on the phone?” you ask, ready to get in your car and over to Jack and Aaron.
“I’m supposed to be sleeping,” he admits shyly and you laugh. “I miss you.” he says and you feel your heart swell.
“I miss you too Jack,” god you wish you could hug his little body. “Is everything okay?”
Jack sighs, “It was my mom’s birthday two days ago,” your heart breaks for Jack and Aaron.
Jack had told you about his mom’s funeral when he was over the last time Aaron had been away.
“Daddy was sad, and today Uncle Rossi came over because he made a mistake.”
“It’s all good now though?” you ask and Jack says a little, ‘yeah,’ but he sounds sad. “Do you want me to stay on the phone till you fall asleep?”
The words are out of your mouth before you can stop yourself.
“Can we do a video?” he asks and you switch over immediately, finding Jack’s face smushed to his pillow.
“You look so cozy,” you tell him and he smiles, a little blush taking over his face. “What story do you want?” you have a couple of his favourites still at the house.
“Jungle book again, please.”
You read only a couple chapters of the book before Jack falls asleep, the phone falling to the bed so you’re staring at the ceiling but you don’t mind it.
You’re cleaning up your coffee table when you hear Jack’s door open.
“Y/n?” It’s the first sign of trouble when Aaron says your name like that.
You’re not sure what the trouble could be, but you know it’s unsettling and it makes your skin crawl just slightly.
You curse yourself internally at that thought.
Aaron doesn’t have to call you ‘sweetheart’ every time, friends usually go by first names too.
“Hey,” you say, and there’s a sort of awkward silence that fills the space. “Sorry, I didn’t mean for him to keep the phone, he sounded so sad and fell asleep.” Aaron just shakes his head.
“It’s fine Y/n, it’s been a tough week for him.” it grates on your nerves the way he’s determined to only call you your name, but you nod as Aaron speaks, packing your crafts into your sticker folder and sliding it into your tote bag.
There’s something weird with him.
“Jack said you’d been sad.” you mumble before you can stop yourself. “Sorry, sorry.”
Aaron laughs and shakes his head. “He likes you,” he says and you smile bashfully. “But yeah, I was. I’m better now though, swear.”
You eye him skeptically, but nod anyway.
“Rossi says I’ve made a mistake.” Aaron says unexpectedly. Your eyebrows knit as you wait for him to continue, “Coming back to the house.”
Aaron doesn’t know why he’s saying all this, truly. It’s frightening the way he opens up to you without even thinking.
He wants to add, ‘and being away from you,’ but you cut him off before the words can slip from his lips.
“Do you think it is?” regardless of what his answer is, you’re planning on keeping your face neutral.
“I’m not sure, it’s done some good, but I think mostly it’s made Jack emotional.”
You can see the struggle plain on his face. He’s at war with himself, but you’re not sure why exactly.
“Do what feels right for the two of you.” you say softly and he nods.
Seeing him and hearing that he wants to possibly stay at the house reminds you that they’d never been permanent, no matter what you had thought.
It bubbles an anger that’s really embarrassment and it makes you feel gross, makes you feel wrong.
Wrong for letting them into your routines, wrong for getting so used to them being in your space, wrong for your friendship turning into a crush.
“I gotta go,” you say and Aaron nods. He can tell something’s wrong, but prying seems wrong.
Everything seems wrong now.
“Goodnight Y/n.”
“Goodnight.”
-
You go another week without the Hotchners but this time they’re home. In their house right across the street.
Jack still waves at you from inside their gates, but he doesn’t come over and you hardly see Aaron.
There’s something odd and it’s eating away at you. You hate the limbo of not knowing what’s going on, but you knew it was bound to happen after that phone call.
You give Jack his ‘something sweet’ every week though, still giving him double the regular batch even if Aaron isn’t talking to you.
Your week has been mostly the same routine, wake up, go to school, teach the kids.
Except today.
Everything’s been turned on its head since the moment you woke up.
You’re late. And you’re never late, not even five minutes.
Your alarm didn’t go off, and now you’re about to be an hour late for school because you haven’t had breakfast or showered yet.
The only good thing is that you called in the moment you got up and let the school know you’d be late. Other than that? It’s been a shit show.
As you step out the door, you see Aaron hovering by your gate.
You’re only slightly disturbed by his presence, especially the beard he’s grown. “Is something wrong?” you ask as you lock your door.
“You’re still here.” he’s got an almost relieved tone to his voice.
“I’m late,” you explain softly and he nods, stepping back as you open your gate. “Are you sure nothings wrong?”
Aaron never grows a beard, and he never comes over in the morning even when you were talking.
Sure you being late is uncharacteristic, but it doesn’t warrant a visit from him- especially after all this time.
“You haven’t called me ‘Aaron’ in almost two weeks.” he grimaces after the words leave him like he wasn’t supposed to say anything.
“You haven’t spoken to me in almost two weeks.” you counter as you reach your car. “I’m not doing this right now, you have your reasons fine whatever. I have to get to work.”
You’ve never been this cursory with him ever, and it stings, but Aaron nods.
Your day doesn’t brighten much from there. The kids are all a bit restless and teaching fractions doesn’t go as smoothly as you’d have liked, but they’re understanding the differences a lot better now.
You don’t force it on them after lunch though.
Instead, you let them go over their writing and reading and help them make crafts till the last bell.
Aaron’s outside waiting for you and you resist the urge to roll your eyes.
Sure you missed him, but like this, he’s two steps away from making your bad day worse.
“Come pick up Jack with me? He hasn’t seen me for the day.” you want to ask why, but you don’t want to be reinvited into their lives like this.
“Aaron,” you want to tell him no. You want to tell him to fuck off and leave you alone, to pretend you don’t exist because it was so easy for him over the last two weeks.
But there’s something about the way his shoulders drop and relax as you say his name that has you caving. Something about that Aaron Hotchner smile, that’s not even a smile that wins you over.
“Fine.”
He knows using Jack to force the two of you together is wrong, but after Rossi and Reid grilling him, he wants to make amends.
“You stopped speaking to her?” David is livid. He knows exactly why Aaron had stopped speaking to you but he hates that he’s allowed his worry to rule him again.
“Hotch, she was nice.” Spencer chimes and Aaron rolls his eyes and sucks at his teeth.
“None of you have met her!” he hisses and Spencer shrugs.
“Jack talks,” is all Reid says and David nods.
“Yeah, the kid’s practically in love with her. He even shared some of that chocolate babka she made for you, she’s got a good hand for it.” Rossi says and Aaron smiles despite it all.
Rossi wants to tease him, but the smile has something sad about it.
“That’s why it can’t go on Dave, she’s someone to lose now.”
David and Spencer sigh and lean forward at the round table.
“And you pushing her away is what? Keeping him from losing her? It’s premature even for you, Hotch.” Rossi’s words are weighted, but it’s Spencer that gets to him.
“Jack’s going to lose her twice, once as his friend and then again as his neighbour. When she realizes you’re done with whatever it is you had, she’s going to leave Jack alone to avoid you.”
There’s an implied, ‘and it’ll be your fault,’ that Spencer politely refuses to add verbally.
The words had been swimming around his head all week but he didn’t know how to approach you about it to apologise.
“Did you drive here?” you ask as you reach your car, looking up at Aaron to see him shake his head.
“No, um, Spencer dropped me off.” you nod though you have no clue who this ‘Spencer’ is.
“Get in,” you mutter, sliding into the front seat and starting the car.
The ride is mostly silent and uncomfortable.
It’s stifling that the two of you are this silent but clearly have something to say.
It’s causing a stress knot at the back of your neck now that you think about it.
“Can you just say whatever it is you want to? The tension is ridiculous.” you murmur, eyes darting between Aaron and the road.
He feels gross all over at the way you’ve dismissed him even while speaking to him- but Aaron knows he’s deserved this.
“I’m sorry.” he starts and you frown. “For being distant, and for not coming over. I didn’t mean to make you upset.” he says softly, almost like he’s ashamed of his actions.
“That’s not why I was upset,” you reply, pulling into the parking lot of Jack’s school. “You stopped being my friend. You put distance between us when you went back to your old house, and I didn’t know why. Then when you came home you couldn’t even look at me and say, ‘We can’t be friends anymore’ you just shut me out.”
There’s a long silence in the car as Aaron tries to pick his next few words and you feel like you probably should’ve never said anything to begin with.
“We’ll talk later,” he says as the children start rushing out.
You stay in the car while Aaron gets Jack and sigh. Your forehead is pressed against the steering wheel when the back door opens and a rowdy Jack pushes his face up to yours.
“Y/n!” he screams, and you giggle despite yourself.
“Inside voice Jack,” Aaron corrects softly and Jack nods, pressing a kiss to your neck.
“How was your day?” you ask as you pull out, content to give Jack all your attention if it means that you can avoid whatever is going on between you and his dad.
“Can I come over?” Jack asks as you pull into the familiar road. “Dad?” he prompts when neither of you answer.
Aaron only looks at you.
“Uh yeah babe, but me and your dad have to talk, that okay?” Jack nods, unbuckling his seatbelt as you get out.
“C’mon J,” you call, opening the door and letting him race in.
You set up the tv for him, ‘Little Einsteins’ playing as he sings along. You place a bottled water and a plate of cookies on the coffee table for him too, before turning to Aaron who’s leaning on your kitchen’s arch.
You stare at him from the other side of the archway, waiting for him to speak.
“I couldn’t,” he starts and you cross your arms. “I don’t do well with loss, it’s hard to let people in since Haley died- Jack’s mom.”
God you wish you weren’t so emotional. You can feel tears pricking your eyes just at the mention of Jack’s mom.
“I don’t like putting him in a position where he can lose people. He wasn’t supposed to befriend you, neither of us were,” you nod. “but we did and it started to feel too good being around you.”
You want to stop him, but Aaron bulldozes you and continues, “Things go wrong quickly when they start to feel good. There’s risks that come with being involved with any agent.”
“I don’t think someone would attack me because we were friends Aaron,” you try to joke but he doesn’t smile, he doesn’t even do his little eyebrow quirk and it makes you nervous.
“Maybe not, but I didn’t want to take the chance. Anything could go wrong.”
“Anything could go wrong in friendships that don’t involve agents.” is your counter.
You push off the archway when your brain catches up, “Wait, did you say, ‘didn’t’?” you’re closing the distance between you.
He smiles a little then, only the tip of his smile going up but you see it.
“A couple friends told me I was being premature, in putting distance between us. They also reminded me I was more than capable of keeping people safe.”
You can’t help but smile, “And?”
Aaron’s not off the hook, that much he can tell.
He can also tell that you’re giving in.
“And, I wanted to stop being an ass and I really really missed coming over.”
You shake your head, “What if I didn’t want us to be friends again?”
Aaron pauses for a moment, it’s long and pregnant and it makes you nibble on your lip when you catch onto what he’s thinking, but then he gives you a proper smile this time, “Then I’d go ask Jack to convince you to give us another shot with you.”
“Oh that’s mean,” you mumble and Aaron nods, the toes of your shoes touching now.
“Alright, fine, since you’ve really pulled my leg, I’ll be your friend again Aaron Hotchner.” you say dramatically and he laughs.
“Good, because I really did miss you. More than Jack.” he whispers the last part and you scoff.
“Oh that’s not true, Jack called me.” you say and Aaron’s eyebrows knit together.
“After we came back?” he asks softly and you nod.
“Three times a week from the landline.” The boy in question comes running into the kitchen, an empty plate of cookies in his hand.
“Thanks Y/n,” you take the plate from him, and as soon as his hands are empty he hugs your legs. “Missed you.” he says and you ruffle his hair.
Aaron feels his heart break at the fact that his son had missed you so much, he called you on the house phone. Reid was right, he’d have made Jack lose you twice. He almost did.
“C’mon babe,” you lift Jack to your hip, “Let’s choose something to bake for tomorrow.”
Aaron watches as you go for your cookbook, sitting Jack on the countertop as you both flip through the desserts section.
-
You all fall into your regular routine after a couple weeks, Jack coming over on a Friday for his ‘something sweet’ and to give you all the details of his week.
Aaron never stays long these days, hard cases that’s mainly long hours but he pops in every night just before you go to bed.
Like tonight, Jack’s still with you, not awake but asleep in your lap, and Aaron knocks on your door.
“Shit,” you mumble, lifting Jack’s head and placing it on a cushion.
“Y/n,” he whines and you pout, kissing his head before jogging off to the door.
“You have to get your own keys,” you say to Aaron, finding him in just his suit shirt, tie and jacket gone. “He fell asleep.”
Aaron shakes his head as he steps in, noticing both you and Jack in your pyjamas as he flicks your locks.
“It’s not even eight thirty, what did you get up to?”
You don’t say a word, but gesture to the coffee table and then to the kitchen.
The coffee table is covered in paper dinosaurs, all in varying colours and species, and the kitchen has multiple tupperware bowls, some with food and others with sweets.
“You’re weak sweetheart,” he chuckles and you shrug.
“He’s nice, and we had fun. Jack pays in compliments and kisses, what’s better than that?” Aaron sits where you had been, raising Jack’s head so it lays in his lap, and pats his free side.
“You shouldn’t be working on crafts on the weekend,” Aaron whispers but you frown. “You should be relaxing.”
You suck at your teeth, “We did relax! We made dinner together and we baked brownies and then we made dinosaurs.”
He just nods, but Aaron wishes he had the time to actually let you relax.
He wishes that he could have a weekend off to take you and Jack someplace where you don’t have to entertain.
There’s a contemplative look on his face that makes his eyebrows scrunch together and his lips purse - you don’t like it even a little bit.
“You’re being weird Aaron.” you say as you reach and smooth the wrinkles in his eyebrows.
“I’ve never been weird,” you giggle softly but don’t say anything and it makes Aaron shake his head. “I’m thinking.”
You pull back from him, “Aaron, please, don’t hurt yourself.” he pushes at your shoulder when you laugh.
“Something serious?” you ask, standing and moving to the kitchen.
Aaron’s about to call out to you when he spots you walking back with a bowl of food and a fork.
“It could be,” he says and he takes the things from you. You flick through the shows, settling on something easy as he eats.
“Are you gonna tell me?” he shakes his head, crunching on a carrot.
“Nah, not yet.” you huff but say nothing, content to just watch your show till Aaron’s ready to leave.
Except, you fall asleep in his lap as well, and he can’t move. He doesn’t mind, not a bit but he does shift a little so he can lay down too with you and Jack on him.
“Fucking perfect.”
-
The next week is fast, the term is winding down for thanksgiving and then Christmas break.
The kids have been good at the fractions and the shapes, a real change from the last couple of weeks and it makes you feel a teacher’s pride that’s ridiculous.
“You guys are so smart!” you praise as you watch the class name each of the fractions with ease.
Now they’re all eagerly telling you their plans for Thanksgiving, and what their parents are going to be making while you’re in circle time.
“Miss Y/n?” Ben raises his hand as you walk around the room.
“Yeah?”
“What do you do for Thanksgiving?” the class all nod at his question and you smile.
“Uh, well my family and I never really celebrated it. We did the big lunch and dinner for Christmas.”
Another hand goes up and you point to the girl, Lyn, “Will you be alone then?”
They all know you’re not from Virginia.
“Maybe, or maybe I’ll spend it with my neighbours.” you haven’t really spoken of it with Aaron and Jack, but if you have to spend it alone it won’t be as bad as it used to be.
“I hope you do,” Lyn says and you smile.
“Thank you Lyn.”
On your drive home, you think about Thanksgiving and what you’ll do for it, but everything feels too much. It feels weird thinking about doing something when you usually do nothing.
“Y/n!” Jack’s waiting outside your door with Aaron, who has to hold his son’s hand so he doesn’t run over to the car.
“Jack,” you greet and he tugs on your fingers. “What’s wrong baby?”
Aaron comes down to take your keys from you.
“We’re going out,” Aaron says and you frown.
“Where?” you ask and Jack beams.
“Our favourite!” Jack giggles madly and you shake your head.
“Never been.” you say and Aaron smiles. He unlocks your door and watches you and Jack go in before getting in himself.
“That’s even better. We’ll wait for you. It’s not formal. Reservation is for 7.”
Aaron can tell you want to say something, but you don’t. You just make your way to your staircase.
“Y/n, can I have more cookies?” Jack asks and you nod to Aaron.
“If your dad says it’s okay before dinner.”
You don’t stick around to hear whether or not Aaron allows him.
You come back down and Aaron sees you first. Without his conscious consent his belly fills with butterflies and his nerves frazzle.
You’re in a long, blue and orange skirt and a white t-shirt.
Your hair’s been let down, ringlets of loose curls hanging down your back, your glasses replaced with another pair that matches better.
“I’m ready,” you say, watching Jack and Aaron share a cookie as you grab your purse.
“Leave it.” Aaron says softly, offering you a cookie in turn. “You look beautiful.” he compliments and you smile as you pluck the cookie from his hands.
“So pretty,” Jack says as he touches the colours on your skirt. “Like a princess or a fairy!”
“You’re both flirts,” is the only thing you can say, trying to tamper your embarrassment from their attention.
Dinner is easy, conversation mostly abstract.
“What about if you combined the two, a brownie and a cake,” Jack says as they bring dessert out. Aaron had the good sense to get everyone their own hot brownie with ice cream. “A crownie!” he names it excitedly and you giggle.
“We could try babe,” you say and Jack nods, leaning forward and licking the vanilla ice cream on his brownie.
“It’s hot so don’t touch the pan.” you say and he nods. He’s been beside you all evening, much to Aaron’s amusement yet he can’t help the way he notices Jack has been wanting you more and more.
It’s painfully obvious now how much his son had missed you, and for a moment he feels a sharp stab of dad guilt right to his gut.
“Aaron, your ice cream is gonna melt and then me and Jack are gonna have your entire plate.” you threaten, Aaron’s eyes widening as he notices the chocolate stains around his son’s mouth and the nearly gone brownie.
“Yeah dad, eat up or pay up.”
Your laugh is loud at the little Hotchner’s threat.
“You wouldn’t dare,” Aaron says, digging into his brownie before you and Jack team up against him. He still manages to save about half the brownie for the ride home.
The bill comes and you reach for it when Aaron shakes his head.
“Not a chance, sweetheart.” It's cruel of him to say it so sweetly and reverently as he fishes his card out of his wallet.
It makes you stumble, and allows him the advantage of paying without another complaint.
Jack knocks out about twenty minutes into the drive back to your house, and from the quiet that surrounds the car you’re tired too.
“You can sleep y’know,” Aaron says as he glances over at you.
You shake your head, defiant, “And leave you up by yourself? Don’t think so.”
He keeps you talking for a little while, before glancing at you and finding your cheek tucked to your shoulder, and your eyes dropping closed.
“Sleep, sweetheart.” he says softly, hand reaching for your cheek.
“Don’t want you to be bored,” you slur and he chuckles.
“Won’t be, promise.” your eyes don’t stay open long after that, certainly not when Aaron keeps stroking your face.
The drive lasts another half hour, you and Jack out like lights.
When he pulls up to your house he grabs your keys from the cup holder.
Aaron’s meticulous as he opens the door and clears the couch so there’s space to place Jack.
The little boy doesn’t rouse, Aaron having perfected the art of transporting a sleeping toddler over the years.
He comes back for you, unbuckling your seatbelt and stroking your arm.
“We’re home sweetheart,” he whispers, watching you turn to where his voice is coming from. “Want me to carry you?” he’s gonna do it unless you say ‘no.’
“I can walk,” you’re groggy, but he moves to let you hop out of the SUV on your own.
Aaron stays behind you though, hand on your back as you walk inside. You stretch and yawn when you’re inside and Aaron smiles.
“Want some tea?” you ask and he shakes his head, he watches you make yours though.
“Thanks for dinner, Aaron.” you say as you hold your mug, taking a scalding sip that makes you hiss.
“Don’t do that,” he says and you frown. “What are you doing tomorrow?” he asks and you brighten.
Aaron never has the weekends off. Ever.
“You didn’t say you had the weekend off!” you all but scream and he laughs, reaching for your mug as you rush around to his side of the kitchen island.
“I have the day off,” he amends and you nod, sitting halfway in his lap till he tugs you up properly.
“And you want me to spend it with you and Jack?” he nods, handing over the tea when you’re comfortable.
You don’t think hard about his hand falling to your waist to keep you still as he answers you.
“Mhm, Jack wants to go to a book fair.” he elaborates and you nod. “Are you free?”
“So free! But I have to be back in time to go to the farmer’s market.”
Aaron nods, lodging his chin on your shoulder as you sip the tea. He can do with a day of just you and Jack and nothing else.

This is the sweetest thing I’ve read in a long time. 🥹🥰
imagine dating spencer and you come to visit or something and make him so distracted that he literally can’t info dump on something and the rest of the team is just shocked
yes yes, a hundred times yes 🤭 thank you so much!
Tumblr media
catching a glimpse of yourself in the elevator mirror was the last thing you needed right now. you were covered in paint, your dungarees showing up every coloured streak and hand print against the light denim. you're sure there's paint in your hair but you don't have time to dwell on it, you're late
you'd got stressed, painting your boyfriends apartment on your own, lost track of time and then didn't have the time to change before running out of the apartment, just about managing to remember to grab yours and spencer's lunch on the way
"i'm so sorry i'm late," you sigh and frown as you rush through the bullpen to the collection of desks you're oh so familiar with, "please excuse the state of me,"
spencer turns at the sound of your voice, "hi sweetheart," he hums, looking up at you just as you dip to kiss him quickly before pushing the bag of food onto his lap
"hey," you smile softly at your boyfriend before turning to his colleagues, "hey guys, how are we all?" you ask, getting a mixed bunch of replies back
"how's painting?" derek laughs, looking at your appearance and the state of your clothes
you slide onto spencer's desk, pulling your legs up to sit cross legged, "standing six feet up a ladder trying to hold a tray of paint and a brush is hard, i've nearly fallen off twice," you huff,
spencer hands you the sandwich he knows is yours and then seemingly looks at you properly for the first time since you've been there, "hey," he says, almost breathlessly
"hello?" you question, head tilting slightly, "you've already said hi," you say, looking at emily and jj who just snicker and shrug their shoulders but spencer doesn't reply, "oh before i forget!"
your boyfriend watches you carefully as you produce a piece of paper from the tiny pocket on the front of your dungarees, flapping it around to unfold it, your other hand busy clutching your food
"the living room is next, i need to know how much paint to buy," you explain, handing the paper to him, "the cans are one litre or five litres, i can't figure it out"
truth be told you hadn't bothered to try and work it out, knowing spencer would be able to reel off the answer like it's nothing, naturally, he knew the exact measurements of every wall in his house
the boy stares up at you blankly, big brown eyes soft and sparkly. your cheeks heat up under his gaze, your eyebrows raising slightly, "spence?" you nudge him with your knee
he jumps ever so slightly, his head shaking a bit, "hmm?" he asks before only just registering you've handed him something, his eyes scan over it, "oh!" he blushes, turning his chair to face his desk
"what colour are you doing the living room?" jj asks while she stabs at her salad like it's offending her. you'd consulted the girls with all of the decorating developments.
"a light brown i think, we have so much to hang on the walls," you pause to swallow, "so something neutral," you finish with a slight nod
a door opening to your side grabs your attention, aaron coming out of his office with his lunch. he comes down into the bullpen, sitting on the edge of emily's desk, "the paint fighting back?" he asks you, slight smile creeping over his face
you roll your eyes at him, playfully, while the other laugh at your expense, "very funny but i don't see any of you offering to help"
penelope scoffs, "actually, i did" and she was right, however her idea of getting wine drunk and decorating had been quickly shut down by spencer, the only input he's actually offered up in the whole process
giggling, you turn back to your boyfriend who's been far too quiet, "boy wonder?" you say gently, pushing your fingers through his hair, "got an answer for me?"
usually he would have an answer within seconds, his minutes of silence making you frown, he turns to you with the same frown painted across his face, "i don't know," he says
people around you gasp, loudly too, "what do you mean, you don't know?" emily almost chokes on her lunch, sitting forward to gawp at the boy
"i do not know how much paint we need" he confirms
derek scrambles, pulling his phone out of his pocket, "say it again, i need record of this moment" he pleads while garcia smacks him
"well there's a first," david says, wandering over after hearing spencer say i don't know for possibly the first time, ever
your boy stares at the paper in his hand and then up at you, confused, "i have to go and work it out, excuse me" he says, rushed, as he stands and takes off towards circle table room
after a moment of shocked silence you turn to the team who are all staring directly at you, "i'll go check on him, i wonder what's wrong?" you say to no one in particular as you hop off of the desk
"i think i know," jj sing songs and the others hum in agreement as you hop up the stairs and along the walkway into the room.
when you get into the room spencer is stood in front of the biggest whiteboard you've possibly ever seen, marker in hand though the board is still empty of his handwriting
"spence? angel?" you say quietly, staring at his back as he starts to write the measurements of the walls in his living room, "everything alright?"
he hums, not turning to look at you as he continues to work through the problem, "yeah, fine, just can't think properly when you're around," he admits, "not when you look like that," he turns slightly to look at you
"oh, do you want me to leave?" you're sad, its obvious in your voice. nervously you start fiddling with the sleeves of your sweatshirt
your boyfriend gasps, "no, no, honey that's not what i meant!" he says, holding his arm out. you slide into the space, head resting on his shoulder, "you're so beautiful and i love you so much, so so much, my brain just switches off when you’re around"
"really?" you giggle, looking up at him. he hums and nods his head, a light blush rushes up his neck before taking over his cheeks, "i love you too,"
he's taller than you, forcing you onto your tip toes to kiss him, not caring when someone, emily, whoops from the bullpen. gentle hands squeeze at your waist, while you hold his face with one hand, the other resting on his shoulder
"three litres," spencer mumbles against your mouth, you pull away with a sight hum, forgetting what you'd asked of him, "you need three but it's cheaper to just buy five and have left over, now come back" he huffs, his arm wrapping tighter around you to pull you back in for another kiss

The Bet
Tumblr media
summary: The agents at SHIELD have not taken well to Bucky’s pardon. When he’s injured on a mission under suspicious circumstances, you take matters into your own hands.
pairing: bucky barnes x reader
word count: 7.7k
warnings: canon level violence, bucky’s internalized self-punishing issues, shield agents being real pieces of shit, badass reader who would defend bucky to the death
a/n: I know I’ve been really inactive lately (life’s actually been going well so I’ve been busier but that leaves me less time to write unfortunately), but I’m still lurking here! This is a fic I wrote several months ago but finally got around to editing it. Hope you enjoy!

Bucky wasn’t sure how you managed it – the punch to his gut every time you walked in the room. You were dressed in your tactical suit; black fabric draped over every inch of your body, protective layers of Kevlar and technology beyond Bucky’s years, a weapon strapped to your thigh and knives hidden in your belt and at your ankle. Your hair was tugged out of place, sweat beaded on your temple from the sparring match in the gym moments before the two of you were called to service. In your right hand, you carried your combat boots, the laces hanging low enough to touch the ground.
And still, Bucky held his breath as you approached. Stomach in knots, chest tightening until his heart threatened to stop entirely.
“My offer is fifty this time,” you announced, winking in his direction before you turned to head for the landing bay. “Take it or leave it, Barnes.”

NO THIS IS AMAZING
The alpine pov is not something I thought I needed but that character is just ahh love it!
Not a Fan
Tumblr media
Alpine x Bucky & pregnant reader
IDEK what this is but I saw this GIF and thought it was adorable.
He isn’t pleased he cant feel his warm daddy beside him this morning. He scrambles around the bed searching but neither you or Bucky are there.
The bed isn’t warm so you’ve been gone a while. He saunters around looking for you but it appears he’s home alone.
He’s not happy.
He finds his daddy’s Henley and curls up on it for a nap. He stays there the entire day.
The next day, there’s a clink at the door, and he’s waiting patiently for you both.
He notice’s something different when you both come back. There’s a little bundle in your arms.
“Hey Alpine” Bucky picks him in his arms and he happily purrs, nuzzling his head into his chest.
“Meet Steve Samuel Barnes” There’s a little squirmy thing, wrapped in a blanket, fussing in your arms.
Alpine isn’t a fan. You may have adopted the fluffy feline but he 100% takes after his dad. He’s apprehensive and on the fence about new people.
This tiny things wakes up at odd hours and is very loud.  It takes up all your attention, and worst of all, daddy is always tired, falling asleep before he can get his head scratches.
Alpine narrows his eyes at the tiny thing. Its been a few weeks but he’s still unimpressed.
It’s wiggling on the floor today, fussing again, because it can’t reach a toy. Pathetic.
And then it starts to cry. He can only take so much. He slinks over and bats the toy over so the crying stops. Much better.
He inspects a little closer. It’s very helpless. It reaches out and pats his face gently before returning to its toy.
Meh.
It’s becoming a regular occurrence. Whenever it starts to fuss, he scampers off to find you or Bucky because he doesn’t like the crying, not because he actually cares for it.
Maybe its sort of okay.
Maybe.
He doesn’t approve of it yet, but maybe one day.

For Bella’s writing challenge, I’ve loved this so much @chrisdrysdale You have the best prompt list! Please reblog, like, comment and let me know what you think  💕
Prompt 40. What no smart-ass reply?
Warnings: None! Fluff! Bucky is a secret softie
Word count: 1k
“No.” “But Buckyyy, look how cute” you pouted, shoving your phone in his face.
Bucky’s stoic face remained the same.
“No y/n, we wouldn’t even be home to take care of it” “It’s a she!” “It’s a cat.”
You had spotted a stray cat near the compound, along with her new born kittens. There were four of them nestled in the warm grass and bushes. Ever since you found them, you started leaving out bowls of water and food. There was a strict no pet’s policy, but rules are meant to be broken right?

Classical music. Piano kind of stuff. I believe it’s proven to help with studying. And I think I listened to it when I had my GCSE’s and passed them all.
You can even get like classical Disney songs but I found them distracting because I would just be singing. Hope that helps sweetness.
Send me some study songs pls. Struggling to focus on some school work rn…

Thank you for writing this sweetness. This was even better then I imagined 🥺🥰
hope for the next generation : b.b
bucky arrives home to see cobwebs, pumpkins and ghastly decorations lining the streets for halloween- a holiday he's still getting used to. but when it comes to the children in costumes, bucky can't help but have a soft spot for some of their costume choices. (1.2k)
idea submitted by @backoffbucky - it's just too wholesome and perfect for Halloween not to write! warnings - none, just fluff
masterlist / permanent taglist / etsy shop - requests open!

It'd been a long week for Bucky, but he couldn't be happier knowing he was finally heading over to yours. He could already smell the freshly baked cupcakes, the coffee you wake him up with and the lavender dusted over your pillowcases.
Hearing his phone ringing in his pocket, Bucky lifts it up to see a goofy photo he took of you illuminating his screen. "Hey, doll," He answers, listening to you huff through the line before answering. "everything okay?" Bucky adds, trying to hide is minor concern.
"Hmm?" You mumble to yourself, turning to retrieve your phone that remains on loudspeaker whilst pouring various sweets into bowls. "Sorry 'bout that, James." Picking up your phone, you turn the loudspeaker off. "I was just getting some candy ready that's all."
"Oh, are we having a movie night?" Bucky smiles to himself, envisioning the soft blankets, cold beers and bowls of snacks all laid out.
Chuckling in response, you glance out your window to be greeted with the sound of laughter and the repetitive words throughout the street. "It's Halloween, babe." You remind him, listening to an 'oh right, that holiday' sound from Bucky.
"Still getting used to all this, sorry." Bucky shyly comments, now turning the corner in the cab toward your street and his eyes widen at the sight his eyes are assaulted with. "I, is this normal? It seems like a lot, doll. Even for your neighbours." He quietly asks through the phone, picking up on the driver snickering under his breath.
"I mean, yes but also no." You shrug. "It's mostly for the kids, like a lot of holidays but especially Halloween."
"So much for a quiet night." Bucky grumbles, watching children dressed up as princesses, fairies, pirates, werewolves and all sorts of fairytale characters and others he doesn't know pass by.
Unable to budge from your window, you shake your head. "James, kids don't roam the streets until 1am anymore." Seeing a car pull up outside, you quickly move from your blinds and rush to the front door. "Besides, trick or treating isn't just for kids, I think I've got the best treat of the night lined up."
Smirking to himself, Bucky emerges from the cab with his bag slung over his shoulder. He notices the rustling of your blinds in the window, and his gaze quickly moves to the ajar front door.
Within a blur, you're enclosed in Bucky's embrace, burying your face into the crook of his neck.
Eventually pulling away, Bucky can't stop the smile on his lips from becoming bigger, causing a dull ache to form in his cheeks. But he knew it was worth it, all to see the way your eyes light up when you look right back at him.
"See?" You raise a brow to your boyfriend, lifting your hand up and running it through his hair. "Best treat in town."
Rolling his eyes playfully, Bucky takes your hand in his and guides you back inside, hopeful no kids will stop and stare at him on the way.
"Miss Y/n?" Someone calls out, and Bucky visibly slouches at the interruption.
Whereas you nudge him lightly before turning around and struggle to hold in your gasp.
"Oh my, look at you there Jacob!" Your voice softens as your hand slips from Buckys. "You look so scary!" A giggle leaves the boy when you rush inside. Bucky begrudgingly followed, not caring what the kid's costume might be.
Standing on the other side of your doorway, Bucky watches you rush around to grab one of the large bowls filled with sweets you prepared earlier.
"Come on, James." You call out to him with a sweet smile. "They're local kids, they mean no harm." Walking back outside, Bucky listens to the remainder of your interaction causing his heart to beat faster at the passing thought of you being a Mom one day.
Now back inside, you whistle to yourself and place the bowl down. Bucky notes how it is almost empty and gives you a knowing look.
"Don't judge me, like that." Raising a finger you point accusingly. "They're just so sweet, I can't say no to those little guys and girls in their costumes."
"Oh, Y/n." Bucky sighs, lowering your hand and wraps his arms around your waist. "What am I going to do with you, huh?"
Humming, you lean in to kiss him. Yet, your lips barely brush his before the doorbell goes and Bucky groans internally.
"Would you mind getting that one, James? I just need to go to the bathroom real quick." You ask fleetingly, disappearing before Bucky can even answer.
With his lips parted and eyes wide in shock, the doorbell continues to ring incessantly.
"Alright, I'm coming." He calls out grumpily.
Grabbing a hold of the bowl with the remaining candy, Bucky opens the front door.
"Trick or treat!" A series of voices shrill to Bucky and he tries to disguise his wince with joy- poorly might you add as you watch from beyond the hallway.
"Alright, here you go." Bucky lowers the bowl, barely sparing the kids a glance until one of them speaks up.
"Can I just say Mr Barnes, you're my hero." A young boy announces, and now Bucky's attention is on high alert.
Slowly lowering his eyes down, a boy no older than eight wears a toothy grin with one arm covered in black and decorated with gold to mimick his metal arm.
"I-," Bucky stumbles, finding himself speechless.
"Yeah, you're super cool! We saw what you did on TV, well my Mom didn't let me but I saw it at school. You're like a badass." Another boy chimes in, and they all add comments in agreement.
"Thanks, kids." Bucky genuinely responds, feeling the corners of his lips rise once more. "You have a good one out there." He nods to the boy dressed like him and salutes.
"Good night Mr Barnes!" The boy waves to Bucky and Bucky finds himself waving back.
"That was adorable." Reappearing from your hiding spot, Bucky slowly turns around with the door closing behind him. Yet, his movements are uneasy, and he cautiously lowers the bowl to the table beside him. "James?" Stepping forward, you can hear him sniff.
Lifting his head up, tears gloss over Bucky's eyes. "They think I'm a hero?" Bucky questions, unsure what to think of it all as his past wears heavy on his conscious, even after all this time.
"Yeah, they really do." You assure him, resting your hand on his shoulder delicately. "People see you for who you are now, love. They see a decent man, one who deserves better than his past and admire you for it all. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if we see a couple of Falcons or Captains pass by either."
That causes Bucky to let out a watery laugh. "Thank you, doll." He whispers.
"Come on," Guiding Bucky to your living room, he couldn't be more relieved to see what he'd previously been dreaming of; cold beers, your soft blankets and an assortment of snacks all waiting for him. "I promised you'd get a treat, not a trick, love." You remind him, curling up beneath a blanket together as you turn the TV on.
"Happy Halloween, Y/n." Bucky mutters, glancing out the window to see a Spiderman being closely followed by a Falcon. "Thanks for always being my treat."
