One of my favorite things to do when people come to the house for the first time is to show off the letter opener, which looks like a tanto.

Why is this important to me?

I collect blades. The big ones are on display, and the small ones are hidden throughout the house. Seriously, if you open a drawer you’re likely to find anything from a pocket knife to a hatchet. So, friends get shown where things are as a precaution. And cuz I think they’re pretty.

And while I’m in the middle of pointing things out, I just whip out that letter opener. And it just throws everyone off. :)

I guess I never did do a proper post for it, but this is my fic written out of Spite™️ for Gotham War. It is a proper Jason leaves the Batfam fic.

Summary:

Jason felt light, untethered. It was a strange feeling, and he didn’t know what to make of it. When was the last time…? The phantom feeling of wind in his hair and ghostly whoops of joy came to mind from the first time he grappled through the sky of Gotham. At that time, he felt free, like he could go anywhere, do anything. Is that what he was feeling? Freedom? “After all the progress you made, you go, and you do this?” Batman had gotten close, and it made him flinch away. Why had he flinched? Bruce was his dad. He wouldn’t hurt him. But Batman… Batman would, and he had in the past. “Are you happy you finally got your revenge?” That snapped him out of his thoughts. “This wasn’t revenge.”

WARNING: This fic mentions the various times Bruce attacked/beat Jason in canon. But the Joker does die

Another alternative is that the Court, in order to sway Bruce to their side (Bruce not Batman), they show him Talon!Jason, and are like “see what we can give you? We have resurrected him from the grave.”

So, I might have an insight into the protection of the football players. Because I saw this happen in my own school.

High school football is just as big in some areas as college football, and in those areas, that can affect funding. Whether it’s legal or not, the fact that money is on the line will cause teachers to ignore or brush off bad behavior (they might be told that from admin though).

My high school had its own personal Dash Baxter with no redeeming qualities, and he was treated differently because he was the star football player. This guy threatened to kill me in front of a teacher - he just got a stern talking to. He got in to physical fights and was a known bully - no punishment. Rumors said he was allowed to ditch class and/or teachers graded his work differently because they couldn’t risk getting him suspended from play due to his grades. I know for a fact he left school in the afternoon regularly, and he wasn’t enrolled in the technical programs that had some kids leave early for vocational training. Once again, no actions against that.

(Karma did eventually bite him, but that wasn’t until college.)

But what I’m getting at is that this type of thing exists. I’d like to hope most of it is teachers feeling pressured into protecting bad apples because of money.

I think there ARE teachers who do that but what bothers me is that it feels so inconsistent with Lancer's character later. He'll protect the football kids but have multiple instances of being the hardass teacher, including losing it over Danny cheating so like. Does he care about academic integrity or not, show!?

Not to mention the inconsistencies with what classes he even teaches.

Like they really made one of their major settings a high school and only wrote one teacher character and when asked what personality and roles in the school he was gonna have they were like "yes".

You know what? That's fair. This is a fair criticism. I accept this.

I think canonically he taught English, History, and was also the Vice Principal????? Bro was an admin and a teacher like lmfao what

I am dreading today. It’s the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. I openly try avoiding the city this day, but current job is downtown near the parade route

And I’m in a city that has one of the largest parades in the country - the amount of people expected to attend is greater than the amount of people within the city limits.

Ideas I’d like to see come up more

So, I’ve seen things before about Robin!Jason being brought to the future for a little and meeting the rest of the family.

But one of the things I never get to see is how Red Hood!Jason gets pushed to the side. Red Hood is the revenant of a child who died and the constant reminder of how they can fail.

I want to see Robin!Jason look at his older counterpart and ask: “why are you treating him… err… me… like a ghost? What did I do to push you away?”

I've gotten some questions regarding whether or not I've abandoned fics (specifically the DP x DC ones)

I haven't, but please understand that it's a hobby. Sometimes life doesn't allow me to have time or the energy to want to work on my projects.

Let me just explain the BS that I dealt with in 2023 that's caused writing to go on a back burner for multiple reasons. These are in approximate order.

discovering a friendship was super toxic and person had gotten dangerous to be around. I still have to be very careful visiting a friend who still lives in his area because no one knows how he’ll respond (2023 started off great)

Surgery in Feb… I accidentally re-opened my stitches in March and never felt it happen

Harassment at work that eventually resulted in someone being banned… and the cops being called

First ocular migraine, which happened at worked and scared the shit out of me

First emergency at work that required a 911 call. (The officer that responded before the paramedics seriously looked like Dick Grayson. While my tech saw him too, I’m not convinced he was real)

I cut my finger open on a sword and had to get stitches. Don’t worry about it. I don’t

Trying to be emotional support for friends when online stressors kicked into high gear

Surprise DA inspection at work

Surprise FBI visit at work

Nearly getting caught up in a landslide in Scotland while on vacation (weird things like this are not abnormal when I travel. Also saw something weird in Loch Ness that same day. I think it was just a log though)

People saying disparaging things since I don’t particularly fit into the normal mold of one of my fandoms

The temporary emotional support spear in question

The other day, my friend told me to go cuddle with my 'emotional support spear'.

This is not an insult. The guandao (which is technically a pole arm, not specifically a spear) that's currently chilling on the couch has been a constant fixture there for at least a month. It needs to go into the spare bedroom eventually.

This is just life, well, my life anyways.

I'm posting this in one last ditch attempt to get my co-author re-interested in finishing this fic. Personal things happened, and due to that and length of time, they lost interest. Maybe some increased traffic to it can help. Or even asking questions about the lore (we have so much lore written down).

We start our fic with Dick during the climax of the battle with Blockbuster, wrestling with what he needs to do to end it. In those moments, he believes he hallucinates his deceased brother.

The next morning, he wakes up to discover Blockbuster had been killed and Dick trying to figure out of the figure he saw was 1) truly there and 2) was his brother or something ELSE

Returning to Gotham, he has a run in with the figure of his brother again. But in the moonlight, he could see what almost looked like silvery metal spider-webbing across his features in place of scars.

Jason, on the other hand, knows something Changed in him when he came back, but he didn't really care. All he wanted was to show Bruce his methods weren't working and to make the Joker suffer.

Yet another plot bunny to release into the wild:

While Jason is wandering the streets catatonic and running on sheer instinct after his resurrection, traffickers (not the league of assassins) end up snatching him, only to find out he’s incredibly dangerous when someone tries to hurt him.

While they’re trying to get him ready to move him to x location, they end up in yet another fight with the strange teen. This delay gave Batman and Robin enough time to find them and intervene.

Now that the traffickers are caught, Bruce is staring at the teen who had fallen into step beside him without prompting whose movements during the fight were too painfully familiar. This boy doesn’t respond when spoken to and seemed to stare past Bruce, but he’s the spitting image of the son he lost, once he looks past the scars.

The traffickers sell him to an illegal underground fight ring, and it’s there that Bruce finds him when he busts it

I had a similar thought recently - it’s jokingly called the ‘Not All There AU’ (I have not started writing it)

Jason’s moved in to Crime Alley and is fiercely protecting it while not knowing why he’s drawn there. While doing that, he’s still taking over the drug trade and exacting his brand of justice.

He knows he has an extreme dislike of Batman and sightings of Robin and Nightwing set off emotions he doesn’t quite understand. And he knows he wants the Joker dead, but he’s not sure why.

Unlike with Under the Red Hood, I see him as being not as willing to get into a fight with Bats and Co. until he understands why he’s so affected by them, so he’s regularly doing recon on them.

Bruce is puzzled by him. But I picture it being Dick who reaches out in an attempt to get info in a non-violent way. The only info Jason gives him is that he was drawn to Gotham and he’s still trying to find out why.

The only real scene I can see thus far is when things come to ahead and Jason’s helmet gets cracked open while he’s trying to kill the Joker and Dick and Bruce are trying to stop him.

Joker: you… I thought I killed you

Jason (finally removing the helmet to show scars cuz I like that HC): are you telling me you’re the one who did this?

Everyone watching: !!!!!! HOW????????

Red Hood au where Jason has amnesia (thanks to being beaten upside the head before being blown up), but still wants to do his insane revenge plan against Batman. He has no idea why he's beefing with this random ass dude. He just knows he has unresolved daddy issues and pointed it at the most dramatic looking bitch on the East Coast

The thing is that DC keeps wanting to hint at the Pit permanently affecting him. They had a whole arc in RHatO (2012) that centered around that.

And Pit Madness keeps getting suggested. It was first brought up with the teaser of him coming back in Hush. Then it was referenced again by Ra’s in Red Hood: the Lost Days. But Ra’s also states that it can occur at any time after a person was exposed, even years down the road. But it’s never been confirmed, just teased.

The big thing, at least in my opinion, when it comes to using Pit Madness is that it’s always used for an excuse with Jason with Under the Red Hood, and that dampens everything he was trying to do and prove. He was in control for that.

If you want to use it, use it after that - when Bruce chose his murderer over him and he’s trying to find his way again. It’s makes more sense there.

Or, you can go the route that the Pit just amplifies negative emotion and makes it hard to focus on the positives. We know his memories from before the Pit are affected by trauma of various types (to my knowledge, most recently mentioned in RHatO 2016), and he did give the All-Caste his happiest memory. So, it’s not that outside the realm to say the Pit makes it harder for him to think about the few happy memories he has left without detracting from anything.

As for the green eyes/ glowing eyes. That’s just esthetic. Jason does sometimes glow when he meditates though (again from RHatO 2012)

Something that I'm starting to hate is the whole "Jason's eyes glow green when he's angry" or that his eyes are blue/green, but mostly the first point. It's just not true and it's kind of stupid tbh. If there's any actual canon evidence that he has had green eyes or glowing green eyes, please let me know, but I'm like 90% sure that most, if not all, canon comics have him with just regular blue eyes.

And also, I don't like "pit madness". It's weird and as much as I love jason, it's like a stupid excuse for some of his more vile behaviors. He did the things he did because he's mentally ill and has some hard-core ptsd and trauma and nobody to help him through it. Those actions were all him, not because of the Lazarus pit.

Honestly, anything involving jason being superhuman or permanently affected by the pit in that way needs to just disappear. He's just a dude, an impressive one with amazing skills, but still just a human dude, with mental illness and some hard-core daddy issues...and mommy issues let's be real.
