It seems I have started a war. That post was mostly me venting so let me explain myself real quick. I don’t appreciate having حمار thrown at me.

I can see Atem means a lot to you especially as you are Egyptian yourself (very cool btw) so I’m sorry, I didn’t mean offend any Egyptians on this.

1. In the show (original) the characters speak Japanese rather than English so I value the sub with higher regard . The reason why Atem would know Japanese/English in the first place is because of Yugi. He shared his memories with Atem, they have a bond. If he didn’t then in the first half of the show it would just be Yugi introducing modern day technology to an ancient spirit. Think season 1 Yuma with Astral. Also as @ludoka pointed it out too

2. “everyone and their mom is speaking modern day Japanese / English / German, etc and nobody seems to be bitching about that?” No I get it. It makes 0 sense, only explanation would be puzzle magic and yk since it’s a memory world Atem is experiencing it in Japanese too?

3. “Why is it when people use Egyptian Arabic it suddenly becomes a problem? Hm? I smell some racism towards my people here.” Not really a problem, I don’t mind it at all in AUs. I was talking about Canon compliant fics that all take place before season 5.

4. “but as soon as it’s Arabic it becomes an issue? 🤔” bro look I’m literally middle eastern I get it. people have it against us, my people get called terrorists on every news article. I’m not saying it’s an issue.

Now to get to it, I have no problem with Atem using Arabic. I think it would be endearing to hear him say it in fics. I absolutely love it when characters use their native language terms of endearments.

I am quite picky on the fics I read. I often read canon complaint fics especially with Yugioh.. Even when I find that a character I like is acting OOC I stop reading immediately, that’s just a quirk of mine sue me.

As I mentioned the fics I was having issues with were taking place before season 5, yk when the characters hadn’t gone to Egypt and Atem was completely clueless with no memory of his past. I should have also mentioned that I’ve seen this happen in other fics where Atem just knows FULL Arabic sentences. Like modern day Arabic after supposedly gaining his memory back. Again how does it work. I’ll give the writers the benefit of the doubt and say maybe yeah Atem knew multiple languages during his time as Pharaoh. And if we try to pin point what era Atem ruled as Pharaoh etc we’d be here all day.

I was just saying because it was more so frustration towards the writers because they didn’t have much knowledge about Arabic and used translation sites most of the time and I could spot inaccuracies. They would also just not expand on why or how Atem knew Arabic. Like for example if Atem said Arabic to [insert character ] and the writer was like “Oh btw I hc that Atem started googling things about Egypt and learnt some arabic because he wanted to!” I would’ve absolutely loved that. That is structured and planned.

and this isn’t something I’ve seen in AUs no I’ve seen this in canon compliant fics.
