How many people can Funnel hold under an illusion at once? :0

Less than you'd expect but still more than you think! Funnel is nowhere near as powerful as they used to be when it comes to their dark magic and their more sinister abilities have weakened and changed, so what used to be the ability to cast an arena of people into a hellscape of their creation has been cut down to maybe a few hundred at a time for brief periods if they aren't making anything too complex. Outside of the illusion they use to cover their face, they mostly use their illusions and the Phony Fearhouse for special effects at the circus or to create a small world for a quick purpose.

Funnels dark magic comes from a part of them that no longer fully functions like it used to and that has caused some... complications whenever they try to push passed their new, shorter limits.

One my favorite story elements for Funnel is the fact that they're pretty much the only person still afraid of them at this point. The point we pick up with Funnel is, at most, eight years after they've Run Away from The Kitchen and like five years after they've started the circus. They're constantly upfront and honest with their employees about being The Ringmaster for a multitude of reasons (some moral, some legal) so it's not like the fact surprises anyone for maybe more than a few days because that's all it takes for them to see that The Ringmaster- o' fabled horrific monster of fire and ribbons -is actually now just some guy in their mid 30s. Some guy in their 30s who has made a name for themself with this circus but still just some guy at this point. Your new boss tells you that they're The Ringmaster and you're kind of terrified, but then within the same hour, you are no longer terrified because now you're giggling over the fact that the fucking Ringmaster listens to Weird Al.

Funnel is the only person still afraid of The Ringmaster. Everybody else has watched the fucker walk face first into a pole and knock their head off their shoulders like a fucking Tom and Jerry skit.

What's up with Funnels new sunglasses?

Few things!

Funnel wears those blackout sunglasses for both their own benefit and for the safety of the people around them. Funnel knows that realistically they can't cast the illusion up for every single person they pass on the street and that trying to will give them a horrible headache, so, with their red ringed eyes being the biggest give away of who they really are, they opt for the option of covering them up instead. Funnel doesn't wear them all the time and even goes out to small gatherings or hang out with their friends without them and instead cast up the illusion, but almost all public appearances include their sunglasses.

“Sure do!” He points to each chick in turn. “Clementine, Goldie, Coconut, Rex, Igneous, Azzy short for Asphalt, and Crabgrass!”

When their name is called, each chick looks up at him, but once they realize what he’s doing, they all turn back to their little snack.

Oh brother you are not gonna believe what I've finally decided to do with this collection

Been awhile since I've poked my nose 'round these parts, eh? What's the circus planning on doing this holiday season?

Getting rewritten and redesigned (slightly) into what is probably going to be a series of short stories I write whenever I'm bored- a project that I've just decided to call "Crackerjack." The chances of me ever returning to this blog are low but never zero, but I'm certain that I'm not coming back until I'm happy with my characters again.

Along with that, though, they will also be sharing my brain space with my three other major projects- Two Moons, Home Is Where The Harv Is, and Teacher's Pet -which can all be found and followed along with Crackerjack over on my side blog @yakketymax

Fun Funnel Fact: They are very very particular about the circus being called a circus and not a carnival. Crackerjack being called a carnival (which it isn't, there's no rides or games anywhere on the entirety of the premises) makes Funnel bristle and be curt about correcting such a transgression.

happy birthday, funnel cake cookie!! i'm so proud of how much they've grown as a character :')

So am I! It feels good to no longer be on the verge of hatred and constant anger for something I love and I'm much happier with how Funnel (and the others!) are coming around. It's been five years since I first made them! Five of them! There's been so many ups and downs but they're one of the best thing that's ever happened to me. I've met some of my best friends in the world because of Funnel and this blog.

Funnel is my silly little rabbit (they would loathe to be called this to the point of seething rage) and I love them so much.

On the rp blog, you talked about Funnel and Song Bird's heart beats and I'm curious about the rest of the main seven :0

Underneath the surprisingly gentle crackling fire of their magic flame, Funnels “heartbeat” sounds like a circus, unsurprisingly, with joyous music and bellowing animals and all sorts of amazing and thrilling sounds that make up the wonderment of viewing a live show by talented performers underneath a giant big top. But there’s something else there, what that can only be likened to the soft, smooth, almost comforting laughter of something that isn’t what it seems, something dangerous. Regardless, though, it draws you in and makes you curious even if you feel like running for your life and never looking back.

The sound of Poppys magic flame is rapid and snapping, it can be likened that to that of the fast beating heart of a human that's been running nonstop. Underneath it, you can the bustle of streets and the people that walk them woth the soft sound of a sweet acoustic guitar being played just quiet enough to be missed but still loud enough to hold your attention if and when you notice it. Even further underneath that music, though, is the sound of something dripping and sizzling, like there's something empty in the young man that's gradually being filled... and melting through whatever it's touching.

Underneath the loud and rambunctious roar of his magic flame, Song Birds “heartbeat” is a boisterous batucada beat accompanied by the sounds of the jungle, birds singing and whistling, and voices you don’t recognize scatting and harmonizing along to it all. It’s lively and fun and makes you want to dance, but there’s a distance to it, as if you’re experiencing it from afar rather than right up close despite being right in the fray. But, if you listen for long enough, the sounds become louder and more natural, the music going away and leaving only the calm noises of the jungle. 

Piroulines magic flame is calm and gentle, like the inviting crackle of a fireplace, and directly underneath that is the absolutely blaring jazz music you'd be able to find in a fancy club or hotel, the sound of lively and rhythmic tap dancing breaking through with it to accompany its swing. Listen for long enough, though, and that music fades out as if it's now being played through a radio instead of live, the croaking of frogs and the running water of a familiar stream that you've never been to taking its place instead.

Just as expected, Fireballs magic flame is the loudest of them all, the blaze of it like the roar of a speeding monster truck given that it burns bright alongside the inner fire that gives him his powers. That deafening blaze, the grating blare of electric guitars, and the pounding of footfalls that sounds like storming army all eventually give way to something not as dangerous, but still just as lively and fast-paced. Folk music filled with beautiful violins and drums and lutes that makes you want to do nothing but run. You'd think he had an actual heartbeat if you didn't know any better!

Underneath the very surprisingly mild crackle of Dog Biscuits magic flame, her "heartbeat" is the absolute RACKET of dogs barking and yapping and making an entire fuss, crashing and shattering sounds as if they're tearing up the house, but you just can't find yourself to be annoyed with all the noise. It's sweet, they're excited to see you, they're happy you're home! It's the kind of barking that comes from a dear friend who missed you like they weren't sure they'd ever see you again.

Roasted magic flame and the "heartbeat" that's supposed to come with it is almost impossible to hear. Almost. When you press your ear to Roasted's chest, all that comes through is the clunking of machinery, the ticking of turning gears and the wheeze of pistons as they blow steam out of his body, but if you press closer, really hold him tight and listen, you might just hear what's trapped underneath. Those who have been allowed that close to him have described to him hearing the twinkling of chimes and the soft gusts of wind that shake them, the only mechanical sounds being the twisting keys of wind up toys, like a workshop filled with amazing trinkets just waiting to be played with.
