But suddenly her eyes looked into his, and then Húrin knew her; for though they were wild now and full of fear, a light still gleamed in them hard to endure: the elven-light that long ago had earned her her name, Eledhwen, proudest of mortal women in the days of old." - J.R.R. Tolkien, The Children of Húrin, "The Death of Túrin"
[ID: an edit comprised of two dark-toned posters in red and shades of brown and tan.
1: A close-up of nepali model and musician Varsha Thapa. She is looking towards the viewer with a serious expression and her dark hair blends into the black background. She has light tan skin and is wearing dark red lipstick. Text in red and tan reads "morwen eledhwen" / 2: A group of white and red buildings surrounded by mountains. Red and tan text reads "Morwen was dark-haired and tall, and for the light of her glance and the beauty of her face men called her Eledhwen, the elvenfair; but she was somewhat stern of mood and proud. The sorrows of the House of Bëor saddened her heart; for she came as an exile to Dor-lómin from Dorthonion after the ruin of the Bragollach" and is framed by curly corner borders in the same colors /End ID]

The Noldor (according to me)
Fair warning - I am not an artist or a designer. On top of it, I'm certifiably Bad at Photoshop.™ But with the multiple artist interpretations flying around, I wanted to show people what crops up in my head when I think of Fëanor and his kids.
Fëanor, Maedhros, Maglor, Celegorm, Caranthir, Curufin. I may do others, I may not, because this is a giant pain in the ass and a total time-suck, however rewarding.

Took on a “draw this in your style” challenge. Love the original composition and how the fire was done so I had to give it a go. This was really fun.

In that spring Túrin put on again the Helm of Hador, and Beleg was glad. At first their company had less than fifty men, but the woodcraft of Beleg and the valour of Túrin made them seem to their enemies as a host. The scouts of the Orcs were hunted, their camps were espied, and if they gathered to march in force in some narrow place, out of the rocks or from the shadow of the trees there leaped the Dragon-helm and his men, tall and fierce. […] In that year far and wide in Beleriand the whisper went, under wood and over stream and through the passes of the hills, saying that the Bow and Helm that had fallen in Dimbar (as was thought) had arisen again beyond hope. Then many, both Elves and Men, who went leaderless, dispossessed but undaunted, remnants of battle and defeat and lands laid waste, took heart again, and came to seek the Two Captains. […]  In this way, before the summer had passed, the following of Túrin had swelled to a great force, and the power of Angband was thrown back.

Ar-Feiniel she was called, the White Lady of the Noldor, for she was pale, though her hair was dark, and she was never arrayed but in silver and white.

"And so they stood on the walls of the City of Gondor, and a great wind rose and blew, and their hair, raven and golden, streamed out mingling in the air. And the Shadow departed, and the Sun was unveiled, and light leaped forth; and the waters of Anduin shone like silver, and in all the houses of the City men sang for the joy that welled up in their hearts from what source they could not tell. "

It occurred to me so far that all my elves were dudes, so I wanted to get some of the ladies in here.  This is Irime, the second daughter of Finwe and Indis, and Fingolfin’s younger sister. Indisputably the most obscure character I’ve done yet in this project; she doesn’t even appear in the Silmarillion. Which is a crying shame, because given that she was one of very few ladies we’re explicitly told made the trip from Valinor back to Arda, and one of the even fewer who was no one’s wife or mother, I expect she was an interesting lady.
Other things learned in the course of doing this portrait: never try to draw Columbines. They are devil flowers, and will take longer to draw than every other element of the picture combined.

Day 1 of @finweanladiesweek
Part 26 of toi's indigenous tolkien series
[image description
1: a north African woman wearing a headscarf. The background is grey weaving. Text = MIRIEL who was called Serindë, because of her surpassing skill in weaving and needlework; for her hands were more skilled to fineness than any hands even among the Noldor
2: a east African woman wearing gold. Background has the ruffles of a dancers dress. Text = INDIS laboured not with her hands, but sang and made music, and there was ever light and mirth about her while the bliss of Aman endured.]

Danai Gurira as Arwen Undómiel—an Elven lady of royal Noldor blood; the daughter of Elrondal from the line of the Half-Elven, also called the Evenstar by her people. Her aspect was said to recall her ancestress, Lúthien, fairest of all the Elves. After the War of the Ring, she married High Queen Arawend II Elassar, becoming Queen Consort of the Reunited Kingdom of Arnor and Gondor. They governed together for many years, until the High Queen’s death and power was ceded to Ancalimë II, second cousin to the Queen.
Arwen died of a broken heart in 121 F.A., one year after the death of Arawend.
(part VI in the series YOU LOOK UPON A WOMAN, a project which reimagines Lord of the Rings with a cast of women of color)

Lady of Dor-lómin. Daughter of Baragund of the House of Bëor. Wife of Húrin of the House of Hador. Mother of Túrin, Urwen and Niënor.
MORWEN was dark-haired and tall, and for the light of her glance and the beauty of her face men called her Eledhwen, ‘the Elven-fair’; but she was somewhat stern of mood and proud. The sorrows of the House of Bëor saddened her heart; for she came as an exile to Dor-lómin from Dorthonion after the ruin of the Bragollach. —– But they dared not yet lay hands on the Lady of Dor-lómin, or thrust her from her house; for the word ran among them that she was perilous, and a witch who had dealings with the white-fiends: for so they named the Elves, hating them, but fearing them more.  —– Witch-wife they called her, and shunned her.

At long last, I return to Project: Draw ALL the Elves with Celeborn. The narrative doesn’t tell us that much about him, beyond that he was Galadriel’s husband, but I assume that means he had a rather strong personality. It’s hard to imagine any Finwean, much less Galadriel, ending up with someone who didn’t.
Featuring how annoying it is to draw red things, because true reds are few, but plum blossoms are true red, my new actually opaque white ink that I am growing very fond of, and my scanner deciding that really, purple is overrated.
(This is a lot more purple in person. Which is kind of confusing, actually, because my scanner doesn’t normally have issues with purple, but then, if Maedhros teaches us anything, it’s that my scanner does love blue.)
Up next: Magor, I think.
