Have you played UPRIVER, DOWNRIVER
By Ella Watts
Tumblr media
All you’ve ever known is the Great River.
Gather your crew and swear a magical Oath — to each other, to your ship, and to your goal to reach the Source of the River or cross the horizon of the Sea. No one has ever found the Source and no one has ever come back from the Sea. Journey to four locations along the River, each tied to one of the major arcana, never moving backwards and never lingering for more than 72 hours, but impacting life on the River all the same.
Your time on the River is short, but that it is insignificant.
Upriver, Downriver uses a combination of polyhedral dice and tarot cards to guide the narrative through four to twelve 3-4 hour sessions.

As of today, we are releasing the February 29th, 2024 version of the Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy full prerelease rulebook FOR FREE.
Tumblr media
If you’re wondering what Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy even is, it’s going to Kickstarter starting April 10th, 2024, and, besides downloading the free version we are releasing today, the Kickstarter link is probably the best way to learn what you can expect from it.
As a thank-you to all of those who have supported us with follows, reblogs, likes, and word-of-mouth, we are replacing the cut-down free demo version of Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy that has been available on our website with the full February 29th prerelease version of the rulebook. If you’ve only looked at the demo version, this is huge for you. Four months of constant additions, improvements, playtesting, polishing, and tweaking, plus access to all of the things that were redacted from the original demo version, including rules for handling explosives, advanced melee combat rules, and five fully playable man-eating monsters—and Eureka handles playing monstrous PCs in a way you’ve never seen before! This isn’t just +1 to strength and +2 extra damage taken from silver weapons, playing a monster in Eureka is a whole different experience from playing a mundane PC!
Download the free full prerelease version now from our website!
If you like it, consider giving us a tip on Ko-fi, or the pay-what-you-want version on itch.io! (At the time of writing this, the pay-what-you-want version is not actually set up yet, so your best bet is to get the free version from our website and give us a little donation on ko-fi.)
All subsequent updates to the prerelease version will continue to be exclusive to patreon subscribers; for only $5 you can get the regularly updated prerelease version of Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy as well as many other in-progress projects such as adventure modules and literary works!
And don’t forget, Eureka is fundraising on Kickstarter starting on April 10th, 2024! We need your support there most of all, to make sure we hit our goals and can afford to make the best version of Eureka we can make!
Interested in branching out but can’t get your group to play anything but D&D5e? Join us at the A.N.I.M. TTRPG Book Club, where we nominate, vote on, and play indie TTRPGs, all organized by our team with no strict schedule requirement! Here's the invite link! See you there!

Please don't forget Armenians
Today is Armenian genocide remembrance day. On april 24, 1915 started mass deportations of hundreds of Armenian intelectuals and community leaders, who were (most of the time) eventually killed. Armenian women and children were systematically r//ed and forcibly converted into islam. There were more than 2 milion Armenians in ottoman empire prior to ww1, 1,5 milion of them were viciously killed. Three millennia of Armenian civilaziation in eastern Anatolis was fully destroyed. Turkey today refuses to acknowledge genocides of christian minorities in early 20th century.
Do you know that mass ethnic cleansing of Armenians in ottoman empire inspired Lemkin to coin the term 'genocide'?
Last year in september azerbaijan allied with turkey initiated a war against Armenia. More that 5000 Armenians were murdered, thousands of Armenia families had to live their ancestrial land to not get murdered. There are hundreds of vids on internet where armenian p.o.w.s are tortured. Recently azerbaijan opened a "museum" displayind dead or dying Armenians and kids were allowed to visit it.

Please educate yourself on Armenian genocide. You can also donate here to help Armenia. Thanks for reading!!

How to understand neoplatonism without your brain turning into a mush?
Don't tell me that Hinduism is even more complicated or something, I can't even get how the triad works!
Be forewarned, if you're having trouble getting your head around the Trinity, neoplatonism is gonna take some serious work to get your brain around. But! We encourage intellectual endeavors here! So let's start with the basics.
To vastly oversummarize: Plato and Aristotle had conflicting ideas on how divinity worked. Neoplatonism is what happens when you try to combine them.
If you're gonna give neoplatonism a stab, you need to familiarize yourself with Platonist and Aristotelian philosophy. Once you've done that, you can dip in.
Neoplatonism is basically three guys: Plotinus, Porphyry, and Iamblichus, but you wanna focus on two works in particular.
The Enneads, by Plotinus
De Mystiis (On The Mysteries), by Iamblichus
As for how do this, understand that there is no shame in starting where you are. When I approach a topic I'm unfamiliar with, I have a process:
1 - Give the primary text a skim. This gives me an idea of how tough the ideas are gonna be for me.
2 - Dig around for YouTube videos and recorded lectures. This is a good way to prepare yourself for a serious read.
3 - Give the primary text a proper shot. Highlight areas where you don't really understand. Keep track of where the text loses you, and where it finds you again.
4 - Seek expert assistance. Armed with that list of questions from step 3, find someone smarter than you, and ask them questions. Im lucky enough to be friends with a cast of academics, but you can literally just shoot most professors an email. 9/10 times they're happy to discuss things things with an interested party!
5 - Repeat steps 3 and 4 forever, as there is always more to learn.

Start with Paracelsus, he sounds like fun.
Man, I think a really fun way to do research would be to read old occult texts out loud on twitch. I really like the idea of doing a chill book club type beat that also serves as an impromptu audiobook for some older obscure texts.

Riding the Shinkansen was amazing, you're fine.
Would you go to foreign countries just to rate their train system?
I mean, who wouldn't, right? Right? It's normal to want to visit France to see a TGV and then head to Amsterdam for the rest of the hypothetical trip right? I'm not weird, right?

Holy shit, they got Voyager 1 working again!
15 billion miles away and NASA was able to tweak code packages on one of the onboard computers and it worked and Voyager 1 is sending signals back to earth for the first time since November.
Incredible!
