To what end did I teach them to weave or dance or sing?

What was the loss of a parent compared to that of a daughter?

I didn’t want him here, comparing his grief to mine

How do you describe something that someone has never imagined?

I spent so much of my life in a dreary vigil; the stillness and the sorrow still feel comfortingly familiar.

Let him come back and die at the hands of his bitterest enemy.

They hated her because she was so beautiful and because she made them want her so much

Can’t you see that it just goes on, over and over?

Before, I had been too complacent. Now, I didn’t care what happened

Let him come back so that I can see his eyes as the light drains from them

Nothing brought them more joy than the fall of a lovely woman

It didn’t feel like the right conversation to have on the way to her wedding

How did I know I did not raise another child for slaughter?

Better to protect myself, to hide behind the only armour I could construct

I wondered if there was someone else in the world with even more reason to hate him than me

But I cannot hope for the future, for I know what it is to become.
