“So we can work on the project at my place,” Steve offered, shoving his notebook into his bookbag, “Sam has a class now and Buck shouldn’t bother us,” he continued, walking beside you out of the history building, while you were silently thanking whatever force was out there that you knew a classmate when your professor allowed the class to choose their own partners. Although you didn’t know him well, Steve wasn't a complete stranger, you had a few mutual classes and friends, and he was currently seeing Nat so he was at your dorm pretty often. You knew Sam from going out to a campus bar with him, Nat, and Steve at the beginning of the semester before essays and projects piled up. But you had yet to meet Bucky, you've heard stories of him many times from the group but he never came out with you.

“-What do you think about that?” You tuned in at the tail end of whatever Steve was saying.

“Sorry, say that again,” you apologized, turning to him as you walked to show you were listening this time around.

“I said…” he enunciated with a laugh, “we could do the exhibit on World War II and focus on specific infantries that like liberated enemy bases to save hostages and stuff like that.” He explained excitedly but his face dropped when your expression contorted to uncertainty. You knew Steve was a big World War II buff, as well as being big and buff, so you felt bad for shutting down his idea.

“I don’t know, I feel like a bunch of guys in the class are going to do something about the world wars,” you replied and he nodded, but you could tell he was bummed, “But I like the idea of focusing on infantries, I don’t think anyone else will do that.” He perked back up at that.

“Okay, how about this? If we don’t come up with an idea that we both like we go back to my idea?” He suggested with his signature goofy smile that no one could say ‘no’ to, including you.

“Dude, are you shitting me? No, what the fuck? You totally left me out in the open and got me killed!” you heard as you walked into Steve’s apartment and saw Bucky on the couch facing a ‘failure’ screen on the big tv. He ran a hand down his face and over his scruff as he spoke frustratedly into his headset. Steve waved him off with a silent laugh and led you to his bedroom.

“Sorry about him, when I said he wouldn’t bother us I meant he wouldn’t really talk to us, but he might be loud. I’ve learned to block him out.” He joked as he pulled out his laptop and the rubric for the project. The two of you discussed topics for the exhibit project and what kind of displays would go with it. After a while of brainstorming, Steve flips his phone over to discover a bunch of missed texts from Sam.

“Do you mind?” Steve asks while gesturing toward his phone, about to call his roommate.

“Sure,” you correct your posture and stretch as you stand from your place on the floor, “Can I grab a drink?” you ask while he presses his phone to his ear and nods to you.

“Whatever, dude. I’m getting off, I’ll talk to you later.” you hear as you leave Steve’s bedroom and make your way to the fridge. You watch as he takes his headset off and runs his fingers through his hair and leans back on the couch, with his head hanging over the back. You manage to take your eyes at him long enough to grab a water bottle out of the fridge and take a big sip.

“Oh shit, you're not Steve,” Bucky pointed out after he reopened his tired eyes, you watched his face turn from confusion to interest after you whipped back to face him, “definitely not Steve,” he purred while looking at your body up and down.

“Uh, yeah, he’s- he’s on the phone,” you explained pointing to the bedroom door, choosing to ignore the way his gaze raked over your body. Bucky stood up from the couch and stretched, making you notice how low his shorts hung on his hips and how his V and the subtle happy trail led under the hem of his underwear. Although you didn’t notice him making his way around the couch and to the kitchen until he spoke again.

“Y’know, I thought he was seeing that Nat girl,” he recalled while leaning his arm up on the cabinet next to the fridge.

“He is,”

“Mm naughty,” he leaned in closer to you, and his lips slowly formed a smug grin.

“Oh uh, no, we’re not- he’s not-” You began to rapidly shake your head at his insinuation. Sure, you were friends with Nat but you know she would kill you if she thought you were doing anything with a guy she was talking to. You recalled a time you laughed a little too hard at one of her previous boy-toys jokes and she pulled you to the bathroom with a death grip on your arm that intimidated you enough to back off but also made goosebumps rise across your skin.

“So you’re single?” Bucky challenged while taking a step close and closing you in against the kitchen counter. You couldn’t hold back the shocked laugh from leaving your lips, you almost couldn’t believe your ears. But before you could retort, Steve reemerged from his room.

“Woah, down boy,” He joked toward Bucky who backed off with his hands up in surrender before grabbing a beer from inside the fridge.

“C’mon pal, I was just being friendly,” he defended after taking a swig, you watched with skepticism as he licked the excess off his lips.

“You’re never friendly like that with me?” Steve teased while hopping up to sit on the counter next to you, “I thought I was your best friend,” he mocked heartbreak.

“Well, you’re not nearly as pretty as her,” Bucky clapped Steve on the shoulder and shot a wink in your direction.

“Okay,” you spoke back up, “I think that’s my queue to leave,” you shuffled past the two men and grab your bag and phone from Steve’s room.

“Oh, are you coming out with us tonight?” Steve invited as you slung your tote over your shoulder.

“Um…” you hesitated and you didn’t know why but you looked to Bucky for his reaction, you could see a smirk pulling at his lips before he covered it by bringing his beer to his mouth, “I don’t think so,” you shook your you head, not daring to look up at Steve’s pout that would make you want to change your mind, you were sure you were going to get the same look from Nat and a promise that it’d be fun.

“Then I guess you can come keep me company,” You hear Bucky speak up as you open their front door.

“Hard pass,” you gave him a big smile and said bye to steve before starting your walk back to your dorm, ignoring the part of you that desperately wanted to ‘keep him company’ while both Steve and Sam were out at a bar, but you weren't going to let him get off that easy. And you had no problem playing hard to get.
