Vampires when they see all the incredibly filthy and vile posts about how we want them to use us.

Hey, I'm alive. Just not around here much these days. I'm pretty much exclusively RPing on Discord now, so find me there. Have a few fun new characters as well as my old standbys and great new server if you're into Regency era stuff, fun folks, and the occasional supernatural beings popping in for a hello ;)

obsessed with the way that gothic horror is about horror but never directly. it’s not horrific because there’s a haunted house and that’s scary, it’s horrific because the monster isn’t a monster, it’s your grief, your loss, your pride, your desire, your fear. the monster skulking in the shadows, the darkness at the edge of the woods, the haunted house that is too broken to be a home—those are manifestations of events that grabbed onto the fabric of time in a fit of abject horror and clamped down so tightly that they couldn’t keep moving forward toward resolution and eventual dissipation like they were supposed to. it’s all about the scared child and the mourning mother and the hunger in your gut and the little emptiness in your chest at the end of the day. those things are all little horrors but you can’t approach them directly to understand them, so gothic horror gives us these little metaphors and says “here play with these for a while and see what you find.” and all of those metaphors need someone to go back to childhood to release them. you have to care, and be curious and clever, and look for a way to heal the hurt. you have to be so achingly human to survive in gothic horror

Audrey was originally meant to be more of a Bathory-type character in this AU, but when I sat down and started writing it just didn’t fit. Maybe I need another vampire character to fill that role, it would be fun to write someone just very unapologetically evil.

Something I’d been playing around with as an idea is that Audrey was/is a dancer for some period of her life: ballet, specifically. Maybe the 1920′s-30′s. I think she’d kind of abhor being a principal dancer (she doesn’t like being the center of attention, much less on a stage), but as part of a cast she’d like likely do well, and she has the build for ballet. It would be an easy way to mingle with mortals, too, and identify potential feeding targets; performances are mostly at night and indoors and I’m sure there would be no shortage of desperate fans wanting to believe a real ballerina had taken an interest in them. Rehearsals are likely in the morning but if she were cautious it would be doable. Of course, there’s always the chance that a fellow vampire is in charge of things and that would suit her much better. I think this would be one of those skills that falls under “blending into mortal society” and not much of a passion for her, but she has plenty of time to practice and is likely very good at it and this strikes me as a skill she would like to pass on to her own children.

The Super-Elders
The regional Coalitions and Elders are an integral part of vampire society. There’s definitely a cultural element to the form each coalition takes (the North American/European Coalition has evolved to mirror American government, for example.) and, superficially anyway, very bureaucratic. Lots of “levels” of government, lots of paperwork and red tape to get anything approved, lots of committees and sub-committees that have to vote on various things before it can move to the next step. At the top of this, of course, are the Elders...and while in theory they follow the “process,” in reality what they say goes and everyone scrambles at the lower steps to make sure they fix their end to match whatever the Elders wanted.
Each of the regional coalitions has its own group of Elders and their own methods for selecting them, but there are also a handful (surely less than five...maybe more like two or three) VERY old vampires--Super-elders, if you will (to be clear, they’re not called Super-elders in this AU, I would assume they chose their own preferred honorifics like the Elders do)—that even the Coalition Elders answer to. I’d imagine these Super-elders are either directly-sired descendants of the first vampire or very closely related to that natal line, maybe only one or two “generations” removed. Vampire lore names Cain as either the first or one of the first and puts a lot of emphasis on that lineage, maybe due to it being particularly prolific and vampires being very rare before that point, but in reality the first vampires were infected around 100,000 years ago).
I’ve talked about there being multiple lines before, depending on the strain of the virus that a vampire is infected with, but ofc there has to have been an original host for the first mutation of the virus. That original vampire is long dead and most probably don’t survive their first few hundred years, so vampires that old are exceptionally rare. As a side note, vampires age so slowly they appear immortal, but they do age, though most don’t live so long that the change in appearance is visible. The Super-elders, however, are so old that they are visibly elderly, appearing to be in their eighties or nineties. The same condition that gives vampires their longevity, the unmitigated growth of stem cells, also starts to, at advanced ages, cause tumor growth; Super-elders are, uh…lumpy, is the best way to describe it.
The approval of these Super-elders also seems like it would be requisite to becoming an Elder in one of the Coalitions, but I think it’s extremely unusual that any non-Elder would ever meet them; it would be largely current Elders meeting with them to tell them who they would like to fill a vacancy with and listing their merits for the Super-elder(s) to give a thumbs up/down to. The Super-elders might also make an appearance at the initiation of the new Elder, but otherwise is likely not seen (by vampires, anyway) for centuries at a time.
One of the Super-elders--there isn’t anyone else left alive that is old enough to remember her name, but she has gone by “Rita Schechter-Abida” since emigrating to the US—is about 90,000 years old, originating in the area of what is now Haifa, Israel, and has lived in a senior housing community in Arizona for the last decade, though she’s been in the US since the 1940’s. Rita is an active member of the mortals’ community board there and happily participates in “novel” activities like bingo, water aerobics (in an indoor pool, of course) and snooping into her neighbors’ business. She also talks openly and often about being a vampire, while all the mortals around her simply brush it off as dementia. The Elders are generally petrified of her, which she fully encourages (at least two Elders over the past couple hundred years have met their unfortunate end at her bite), but she also sometimes enjoys treating random people—mortals and supernatural beings alike—that she meets like favorite grandchildren, just depends on if she takes a liking to them or not. Like noted above, it is extremely rare for non-Elder vampires to meet her, though Audrey has created documents for her in the past at Phersipnai’s request (the two have never spoken, and Phersipnai ferried the documents to Rita once they were complete). Rita may also have a couple favorite shapeshifters in the future, but that remains to be seen.
