I would like to take this opportunity to introduce a work that represents how Buddhism differs from other religions in the way it instructs people on how to think and live.
I would like to introduce a shooting game "IKARUGA".
Tumblr media
The worldview of this game is not told much in the game, so if you want to know the worldview, you will have to find it out by yourself. However, it is such a wonderful game that many famous creators have been moved by its worldview and ideas. It is said that the world-famous Nia series was inspired by IKARUGA's worldview.
And then there is the famous line that explains everything about this game. Please let me write only this line in Japanese. Because it is easier to convey the worldview that way.
 我、生きずして死すこと無し。理想の器、満つらざるとも屈せず。之、後悔と共に死すこと無し。
“I will not die until I achieve something. Even though the ideal is high, I never give in. Therefore, I never die with regrets.”
The game frequently uses Sanskrit characters. The game system is also innovative, with the presence of black and white attributes.
Above all, the final work, which affirms the line "Live without regrets," will surely leave something in the player's heart.
If you are interested in this game, you can play it on the Nintendo Switch or PC.
I would be happy if you could realize why this game is so spinal cord of its creators.
Since stephen strange he learn magic from the ancient one and the culture they based on is tibet. I was wondering why they haven't make stephen converted buddhism i think buddhism is the majority religion in tibet. Also vajrayana buddhism in tibet is vajrayana buddhism
MCU i really hated they whitewash the character
Hello @evander2511!
Okay, so before I start, I want to apologise for taking so long to respond 😅 I am sorry!!!! I was on hiatus, and I come by occasionally. BUT, I had this in my drafts since I am so happy you brought this up and wanted to talk about it too (and was quite eager to lol)! Especially because I haven't encountered anyone else who has similar thoughts to me regarding this.
But, to start us off, you are right. In the original comics, the Doctor Strange story of becoming a sorcerer after the accident, and Kamar-Taj were based in Tibet, and The Ancient One was a Tibetan man. And in Tibet, the Buddhism they follow, as you mentioned, is Vajrayana Buddhism, also known as Tibetan Buddhism.
There IS Buddhist and Hindu inspiration or connections in the Mystic Arts, mainly in the MCU. For example, Kamar-Taj is in Nepal/Tibet, Sanskrit is the main language used in Kamar-Taj and its mystic texts, the multiple hands imagery in one of Stephen's spells in Infinity War, the third eye, (tao) mandalas, the concept of "reaching enlightenment", the focus on life and existence and the world, and even Wong dropping a few pieces of advice similar to Buddhist teachings etc... these are just a few examples.
If you really look into it, you can find or interpret the Buddhist and even Hindu connections in Kamar-Taj or the Mystic Arts. I've been looking into this quite a lot because it's so fascinating. And Doctor Strange being my favourite MCU character (and fictional crush 😅), I love these connections since they are something I can personally relate to and identify with, as a South Asian and Buddhist gal myself.
Heck, I could talk more about the interpretations I made, but I don't want this to be too long lol.
So yeah, it's not exactly an unimportant element at all. It's just that the MCU canonically doesn't explicitly establish or mention it as such. Even so, the Ancient One should never have been whitewashed (which she was), and it would not have hurt to embrace the cultural and religious connections of the Mystic Arts lore more.
In the MCU, the location was changed to Nepal since there was a bit of controversy with China about portraying the story in Tibet. From one perspective, I can't really blame Disney since it is a very complicated controversy, especially when it comes to China and world politics. And Disney isn't necessarily a company that needs to put themself in a position to be fighting another country's government regarding this issue. So, I understand why Disney would want to go by this in order to avoid ruffling any unnecessary feathers (and lose one of their biggest box office contributors). But of course, that doesn't mean we can't be critical or unhappy about it.
So, for Marvel and the writers, the safest and closest option was Nepal. And believe me, Nepal is a very close and good option. It is nestled right between India and Tibet. From my observations, Nepal's culture seems to be a mix of Indian and Tibetan. Even to my surprise, though, Nepal is a majority Hindu country. But, the minority Buddhists follow Vajrayana/Tibetan Buddhism. So yeah, even with choosing Nepal, the MCU could still keep a relatively Varjana (or any) Buddist approach to the symbolism and imagery.
Also, Nepal is the original birthplace of the Buddha :)
I will admit, personally, I like that Kamar-Taj in the MCU is based in Nepal, so I didn't mind it even though I acknowledge the controversies behind it. It also opened the potential for Buddhism AND Hinduism to be considered as inspirations for Doctor Strange and the Mystic Arts lore.
Anyways, given everything I just talked about, it still gives MCU no reason to have whitewashed The Ancient One. They could have very well had a Nepalese woman play the character. OR, the character could have still been a Tibetan man or woman living in Nepal and being in charge at Kamar-Taj. It's not a weird concept. Tibet is right above Nepal, and Kamar-Taj is in the Himalayas... I also don't think it would have been far off if the Ancient One was Indian too. Either of these options will still be faithful to the lore and the cultural and religious/philosophical contexts it was based on.
Although Stephen Strange is canonically white and American, even in the comics (Vincent Price was a major inspiration for this character, which is why Stephen's middle name is "Vincent"), I agree with what you said about Stephen and Buddhism. It would have been cool to see him adopting Buddhist teachings and beliefs. He doesn't even have to be fully a Buddhist, but even to see just a bit of how that may have influenced his change, his life, the way he views life, and his beliefs, would have been so interesting enough. It's not only Asians who are or can be Buddhist, obviously. Many people outside of Asia, especially from the West, have moved to various Asian countries like Tibet, Nepal, India, Sri Lanka... to become monks or Bikkhus in search of a different way to live, since Buddhism, first and foremost, is "a way of life".
This, and I mean pretty much everything I mentioned in this post, is pretty much why I once stated in another post how I thought a South Asian woman would be a cool - and in my opinion, the or a perfect - love interest for Stephen Strange. I think that they could have a super interesting dynamic! And don't worry, ya girl, being a South Asian and down bad for Doctor Strange is currently working on a fanfiction for Doctor Strange and my South Asian OC who is his love interest ☺️).
I hope I got everything I wanted to say in here haha, otherwise ya'll may or may notice me editing this sometimes in the future lmao, who knows. I didn't want this to be too long, so yeah.
Have a nice day!

First, I must apologize to you all.
For the tragedy that was triggered by the end of his life, which is the reason why all of you are leaving me.Essentially, you people do not have to suffer. There is no need for pity or even the word "poor him".
And at the same time, there is a reality that I want you to see.Now Doctor strange supreme tags.
Mostly mass-produced AI and processed official images are prevalent. No one has the power to create new things anymore.Only at the moment the tragedy happened, those who loved him fought in anger, but .......What is left now is a pile of ashes.A world where if you touch it, the shape disappears.
But this is not your world.I can't live without leaving this world, so I made the choice to decay by his side, having been killed out of existence.
Why did I choose to decay with Doctor strange supreme's world so much?
It is because I am in the same situation as him.
It happened when I was a teenager, when I was still going to high school. It was my father's suicide.
My father had hanged himself in the last days at the place where there was a forest and a park where he used to take me when I was a child.I never saw my father's body in person, and at his funeral I don't even know where his grave is.One parent divorced when his father committed suicide, so I have no way to contact his relatives.
And this is a scene that I still recall vividly. The last moments of my father's life at home.My father worked even late at night, bringing his work home with him.I remember the back of my father's head, his back clearly outlined, hidden by the light of the computer monitor.
That, and the last conversation I had with my father.
Where would you like to go for a long vacation?I knew that he was busy and I did not want him to be overworked even on holidays, so I did not give him an answer right then and there, saying, "Let me think about it for a while.
With hindsight, I cannot return the answer to that suggestion.
Because of that history with me, I think I am still able to show him who he is. No, I feel as if he and I are like a life form with half of our similarities sewn together.
This is what a person whose heart has been slain while still alive looks like. Dirty, raw and scarred, sipping muddy water to feel the faintest glimmer of his light, he can only adapt to the stagnant air of the sewers and the darkness of the underground.
That is the only way they know how to live.
Even if others leave him in sorrow, I have no place to return to. We miss the empty world created by Doctor strange supreme as the stronghold of our souls, and we love his four seasons every time he changes his body.
Many times I tried to end myself, to stop painting him, too. But even as I put my hand around my own neck to draw him, the next day I hold the pencil as I do the basic sketches I do every day to draw him. A hell that never ends.
But this everlasting pain and anger is the only umbilical cord that connects us Doctor strange supreme.
One last thing. Thank you for your love of Doctor strange.
Is it just me or Stephen's fandom is getting smaller and smaller? The What if... episode achieved the unimaginable: to push even the most die-hard fans of our Doctor Strange away and I'm very sad about that, but at the same time I totally understand, I also wouldn't want to stay in a dead fandom, but unfortunately it's not a choice I can make. I love this man and I will sink into the mud of oblivion with him.

This will be the illustration for the novel I am working on.

Very interesting content.
Certainly, Stephen Strange is not a convert to Buddhism. But that is not so important. It seems to be mainly about Eastern culture from a Western point of view.
On a similar note, Japanese people are often said to be non-religious, but this is not true.
Japan has a mixture of three major religions: Christianity, Buddhism, and Japanese Shinto.
Furthermore, there are customs based on folklore.
In terms of past history, it can be said that Buddhism is so open-minded that there is a history of Buddhism sheltering Christianity.
The Japanese New Year begins with New Year's greetings at a Shinto shrine.
Setsubun in February is an event in which soybeans are roasted to ward off demons, an event that comes from Shintoism, Buddhism, and folklore. Valentine's Day is Christian.
The Doll Festival in March is based on folklore.
Buddhist flower festivals are held in April.
Children's Day in May is a folklore event.
In June, Natsukoshi-no-Oharai (summer purification) is a Japanese Shinto event.
Tanabata Festival in July is Japanese Shinto.
Obon in August is Buddhist. The origin of the word is Sanskrit.
Tsukimi (moon viewing) in September is a prayer for a good harvest in folklore.
Halloween in October is Christian.
In November, there is Shichi-Go-San, a Japanese Shinto event in which a 7-year-old and 3-year-old girl and a 5-year-old boy are taken to a shrine to pray for the children's success in life.
In December, Christmas is celebrated as a Christian holiday, and the last day of the year is marked by the ringing of the "Sakuyaku-no-Keppu" bell, which comes from the Buddhist tradition.
The temple bell is rung 108 times, which means the number of vexations.
As you can see, Japanese people are often said to be non-religious, but in fact they are very religious.
I don't feel that I am too religious because I have actually incorporated religious teachings into my life so naturally that I cannot write them down here.
I see it from my Japanese perspective that Stephen Strange must feel similarly. It is no exaggeration to say that Tibetan culture and Nepal are the land where Buddha was born and where Buddhism was born.
From there, various sects of Buddhism branched out into the current style.
The reason why Stephen is not described as a convert to Buddhism is because, unlike Christianity, it is a religion that adds a new color to its values to the extent that it permeates one's lifestyle.
It seems very strange, but I felt again that it is a religion that is so familiar in our lives that we do not notice it unless it is pointed out to us.
I hope I was able to convey some of the wonder of Buddhism and its familiarity in our daily lives.
Since stephen strange he learn magic from the ancient one and the culture they based on is tibet. I was wondering why they haven't make stephen converted buddhism i think buddhism is the majority religion in tibet. Also vajrayana buddhism in tibet is vajrayana buddhism

I am the one who was harassed by the person on this screenshot. And the person who has been harassing me is still making excuses and producing AI Doctor strange.
So I would like to ask you all to do me a favor.
Please avoid mixing AI Doctor strange with fan art. It pains me to see them mixing it up with retweets.
We, creators who spend our days holding a brush and training our skills every day, are risking our lives by cutting down our sleep hours to finish and deliver our works. I am holding the brush at the expense of my own time to live.
Even if I have a high fever, even if my whole body is sick, I will still hold the brush. I feel so miserable when I can't hold a brush for even one day that I want to kill myself because I feel that my existence is worthless.
But the reality is that AI Doctor strange is being praised; many people are happy that it gives them hope that MCU doesn't give them. However, that painting was originally created by taking someone else's painting technique without permission.
The person who first created the pattern should be the one to receive the praise, but that person does not receive the joy and gratitude. There is nothing more cruel and vain.
I don't want just a pretty picture like AI illustration. Each and every one of us wants to see Doctor strange envisioned in our own mind. It can be a pencil drawing. If you want, you can work with clay or draw with crayons. I want people to love what I have created with my own hands.

My brief self-introduction.
1. I was born in Japan.I can only write and speak Japanese in my native language. When I talk to you, I use a translator, so I think the context is often strange.
2. Although I am a woman, I am always disgusted with my sex due to the influence of aggressive feminism.I'm not a man, I'm not a woman, I think it's more like a sexlessness. That's why I avoid talking about feminism and gender.
3. I love the fusion expression of organic and inorganic substances like H.R. Geiger. That's where my creation comes from. It's grotesque, but I still miss the world, and I feel safe like I'm in my hometown.
4. Since I lost a single parent when I was a teenager, I feel like I'm half as much as I am, as if I'm looking at the Doctor Strange Supreme.
So please don't deny Doctor Strange Supreme .Because I feel like I'm being asked to die.
Thank you for reading it to the end.
