#Repost @weareukraine.info with @use.repost . . . UK to unveil a significant increase in military aid for Ukraine, with an additional £500 million allocated, bringing the total to £3 billion for this fiscal year. The funds will be swiftly deployed to provide essential resources, including ammunition, air defense systems, drones, and engineering support.
In a monumental move, the UK Ministry of Defence announced the dispatch of the largest-ever single equipment package from the UK to aid Ukraine in repelling the Russian invasion across land, sea, and air. This comprehensive package comprises 60 boats, over 1,600 strike and air defense missiles, alongside additional Storm Shadow long-range precision-guided missiles, more than 400 vehicles, including 160 protected mobility ‚Husky‘ vehicles, 162 armored vehicles, and 78 all-terrain vehicles, nearly 4 million rounds of small arms ammunition.
In response to this substantial support, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude to the UK and personally to Prime Minister Sunak for their strong demonstration of support and willingness to further develop defense cooperation, particularly emphasizing maritime and long-range capabilities.

Continued daily support for Ukraine coupled with unconquerable Ukrainian resilience will turn the possible into the probable, and then the probable into the inevitable, victory for Ukraine in the foreseeable future. 🇺🇦💙💛🇺🇸
#Repost@kyivindependent_official with @use.repost . . . Ukraine has “a chance at victory” against Russia’s full-scale war if it receives the $61 billion in military aid recently passed by the United States House of Representatives, President Volodymyr Zelensky said in an interview with NBC News on April 21.
“I think this support will really strengthen the armed forces, I pray, and we will have a chance at victory if Ukraine really gets the weapons system, which we need so much, which thousands of soldiers need so much,” Zelensky said.
After months of delays and political infighting, the House on April 20 approved a $61 billion aid package for Ukraine. The funds are urgently needed as Russian forces gain ground at the front lines and massive aerial attacks erode Ukraine’s air defense capacity.
The Senate is expected to advance the bill in the coming days, whereupon U.S. President Joe Biden will sign it into law.
Zelensky thanked U.S. legislators for approving the aid bill and urged the U.S. to deliver the weapons as quickly as possible.
“Then we want to help get things as fast as possible so that we get some tangible assistance for the soldiers on the frontline as soon as possible — not in another six months — so that they would be able to move ahead,” Zelensky said.

“I am grateful to the United States House of Representatives, both parties, and personally Speaker Mike Johnson for the decision that keeps history on the right track.” ~ Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy 🇺🇦👏💙💛🙏🇺🇸
#Repost @weareukraine.info with @use.repost . . . With 311 votes in favor, the U.S. House of Representatives has passed a bill encompassing nearly $61 billion in aid to Ukraine on April 20, 2024, after months of political infighting.
All 210 Democrats voted in favor of the package, while the Republicans exhibited a nearly even split with 112 votes against and 101 in favor. Now, the bill will be sent onwards to the U.S. Senate where it’s expected to be subject to a vote on Tuesday, April 23, 2024. Subject to its passage there, the bill will be passed on to U.S. President Joe Biden for final approval.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked the U.S. House of Representatives in a statement on X. “I am grateful to the United States House of Representatives, both parties, and personally Speaker Mike Johnson for the decision that keeps history on the right track,” Zelenskyy wrote. “The vital US aid bill passed today by the House will keep the war from expanding, save thousands and thousands of lives, and help both of our nations to become stronger. Just peace and security can only be attained through strength. We hope that bills will be supported in the Senate and sent to President Biden’s desk. Thank you, America!”

In its Ukraine War Latest update for April 17, 2024, @kyivindependent_official reported that U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson has told U.S. lawmakers that the vote on a series of foreign aid bills for Israel, Ukraine and Taiwan will be held in the evening of April 20. 🇺🇦💙💛🇺🇸
#Repost @kyivindependent_official with @use.repost . . . U.S. President Joe Biden has called for “leadership and courage” in Washington in order to pass urgent military aid for Ukraine and Israel, adding “now is not the time to abandon our friends,” in an op-ed published April 17.
“Both Ukraine and Israel are under attack by brazen adversaries that seek their annihilation,” Biden wrote in the Wall Street Journal, adding: “Mr (Vladimir) Putin wants to subjugate the people of Ukraine and absorb their nation into a new Russian empire.
“The government of Iran wants to destroy Israel forever – wiping the world’s only Jewish state off the map.”
Assistance for Kyiv has been blocked by political wrangling for months, leading to a rapidly deteriorating situation on the battlefield.
While the Senate passed a $95 billion foreign aid bill for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan in February, U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson said he instead plans to hold a vote on four separate bills in his chamber this week.
The bill faces resistance from hardline Republicans, who oppose assistance for Ukraine altogether, and there are fears that the party’s right flank would seek to oust Johnson if he moves forward with the bill.
“It’s a strong and sensible plan,” Biden wrote. “It shouldn’t be held hostage any longer by a small group of extreme Republican House members.
“Mr. Putin has tried relentlessly to break the will of the Ukrainian people. He has failed. Now he’s trying to break the will of the West.
“We cannot let him succeed. There are moments in history that call for leadership and courage.
“This is one of them.”

To reiterate the caption for the previous #repost here: Hopefully this week, approval will be granted for Ukraine to receive additional military aid from the U.S. 🇺🇦💙💛🇺🇸
#Repost @kyivindependent_official with @use.repost . . . After six grueling months, the U.S. House of Representatives may finally be preparing to vote on a new aid package for Ukraine.
House Speaker Mike Johnson said on April 16 that following new rounds of talks with House Republicans, he planned to advance three separate aid packages for Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan, and other U.S. allies.
A fourth bill, set to focus on domestic policies in an attempt to appease hard-right Republicans who oppose further aid to Kyiv, will be voted together with the aid bills.
Johnson told reporters following the meeting that he hoped the bills’ texts would be released on April 16 and a vote could take place as soon as this week. The speaker also said that he may look to unify the bills into one package before sending them to the Senate.

Hopefully this week, approval will be granted for Ukraine to receive additional military aid from the U.S. 🇺🇦💙💛🇺🇸
#Repost @kyivindependent_official with @use.repost . . . U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said that U.S. President Joe Biden and congressional leaders during an April 14 call reached a “consensus” that Congress should act quickly to provide aid to both Israel and Ukraine.
Schumer hopes that “something will be done” this week to help the two nations, he said at a press conference in New York, as cited by ABC News.
In February, a $95 billion aid package to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan passed in the Senate with bipartisan support, with $60 billion going toward supporting Kyiv. House Speaker Mike Johnson has yet to put the bill to a vote in his chamber.
Delays in U.S. assistance to Ukraine have already had a direct impact on the battlefield, contributing to the loss of the key front-line city of Avdiivka. Amid the escalating situation on the eastern front and intensified Russian attacks on energy infrastructure, President Volodymyr Zelensky said that "Ukraine will lose the war" if the U.S. Congress fails to approve military aid.
Johnson told in an interview with Fox News aired on April 14 that he was planning to move forward with voting for military aid to Israel after a weekend Iranian attack, without specifying whether the package would include funding for Ukraine.
"The House Republicans and the Republican Party understand the need to stand with Israel. We're going to try again this week, and the details of that package are being put together right now," Johnson said, adding that "all options" are being considered.
Israel’s Defense Forces (IDF) said on April 14 that Iran launched 170 drones, 30 cruise missiles, and 120 ballistic missiles at the country, most of which were downed outside Israel. A few ballistic missiles entered Israeli territory, causing minor damage to the Nevatim Air Force Base, according to IDF Spokesperson Daniel Hagari.
The attack was reportedly in response to Israel’s strike on an Iranian consulate in Syria on April 1 as part of the broader Israel-Hamas war. Israel targeted the Iranian consulate in response to attacks by Iran's proxies, Hamas and Hezbollah, on its territory.

Here’s today’s daily reminder to Republicans in the House of Representatives of the U.S. Congress of the dire need to approve additional military aid for Ukraine now. 🇺🇦💙💛🇺🇦
#Repost @kyivindpendent_official with @use.repost . . . The situation on Ukraine’s eastern front has “significantly deteriorated in recent days” amid an intensification of Russia’s offensive efforts, the Commander-in-Chief of Ukraine’s Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi said on April 13.
The dire warning comes against the backdrop of a shortage of ammunition plaguing the Ukrainian military, which has been exacerbated by an ongoing impasse in Congress over U.S. aid.
Syrskyi said that warm, dry weather has enabled Russia to increase its armored assaults in the areas of Bakhmut, Lyman, and Pokrovsk.
The general said that the tempo of the Russian offensive in the east has heightened since last month’s presidential election, which saw Russian President Vladimir Putin handily win another six-year term in office. The election was widely seen as rigged.
Ukraine is working to stabilize the situation and “strengthen the most problematic defense areas with electronic warfare and air defense,” Syrskyi said.
Both foreign and Ukrainian officials have said the lack of U.S. aid has begun to hurt Ukraine’s position on the battlefield and warned that the situation could worsen without a new infusion of military assistance.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said earlier in April that “Ukraine will lose the war” if Congress does not approve further aid.

Kyslytsya highlighted Russia’s abandonment of attempts to justify its aggression, openly declaring its goal: the complete annihilation of the Ukrainian state, people, and identity. He pointed out the hypocrisy of Russia’s claims of liberation while targeting civilian infrastructure and employing tactics reminiscent of Nazi atrocities.
In a poignant call to action, the ambassador invoked the lessons of history, warning against appeasing aggressors and advocating for solidarity with Ukraine’s right to self-defense.

#Repost @ukraine.ua and @mfa_ukraine with @use.repost . . . The lack of strengthened air defense in Ukrainian cities has deadly consequences — it takes just a few minutes for ballistic missiles to cover a distance of 1000 kilometers.
With Patriot systems, Ukrainian defenders can swiftly and effectively intercept Russian targets and save thousands of lives.
Wishful thinking cannot stop Russia’s ambitions to commit massive terror against civilians in Ukraine. But Patriot systems and Ukrainian warriors can.

“We are both absolutely clear — Ukraine must win this war. If Ukraine loses, we all lose.” ~ U.K. Foreign Secretary David Cameron and French Foreign Minister Stephane Sejourne 🇺🇦🇬🇧💙💛🇫🇷🇺🇦
#Repost @kyivindependent_official with @use.repost . . . U.K. Foreign Secretary David Cameron and French Foreign Minister Stephane Sejourne called on allies to increase support for Ukraine in The Telegraph’s article published on April 7.
Ukraine faces an ongoing ammunition shortage, with the country being in dire need of shells and missiles. Several European countries joined a Czech-led initiative to procure 800,000 sorely needed artillery shells for Ukraine.
Amid intensified Russian attacks against the energy infrastructure, President Volodymyr Zelensky pleaded for more weapons, saying Ukraine needs 25 Patriot air defense systems to protect the country.
Cameron and Sejourne said that the costs of failing to support Kyiv now would be “far greater than the costs of repelling (Russia’s President Vladimir) Putin.”
“We are both absolutely clear — Ukraine must win this war. If Ukraine loses, we all lose,” the officials wrote. They said that “we can rally others to join us in overcoming” and that the allies “must do even more to ensure we defeat Russia.”
Cameron is expected to visit the U.S. later this week to urge U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson and other lawmakers to approve a package of military aid to Ukraine.

Ukraine has a dire need for Patriot air defense systems to save lives, protect vital energy infrastructure, and enable democracy to prevail over autocracy. 🇺🇦💙💛🇺🇦
#Repost @kyivindependent_official with @use.repost . . . Ukraine requires advanced air defense systems to safeguard its energy infrastructure from Russian missile and drone attacks, aiming to prevent power outages as electricity demand nears winter peak levels this summer, Energy Minister German Galushchenko said on April 6.
Russia has intensified its missile and drone strikes against Ukraine’s critical infrastructure, launching large-scale attacks on energy facilities across the country. Among Moscow’s targets were the Kaniv Hydroelectric Power Plant in Cherkasy Oblast, the Dniester Hydroelectric Power Plant in Chernivtsi Oblast, and Zaporizhzhia’s Dnipro Hydroelectric Power Plant.
“The destruction was significant in power generation and in electricity transmission. The situation is difficult,” Galushchenko told Bloomberg. “We still do not understand the scale of damage as many facilities are still in rubble, and we can’t reach them.”
In an interview with national television on April 6, President Volodymyr Zelensky called on international partners to provide Ukraine with modern air defense systems to defend against Russian attacks.
As Moscow increased its attacks, the shortage of air defense systems in Ukraine became more tangible, particularly in the territories near the front line.
“I will not tell you how many Patriot systems we have. I can say that, to cover Ukraine completely in the future, it is preferable to have 25 Patriot systems, with six to eight batteries each,” Zelensky said.
Official estimates for the total energy losses have not yet been determined, but the magnitude of the damage could potentially amount to billions of dollars, the minister said.
Russian attacks have damaged or completely destroyed 80% of the thermal generating capacity of Ukraine's largest private energy company, DTEK.
Ukraine is seeking energy equipment to replace its damaged machinery.
“Depending upon the situation in July and August, we will ask people to save as much as possible,” Galushchenko said. “The Russians can’t cause a repeat of the blackouts of 2022 and 2023. Even in the case of huge damage, we’ll have basic generation that covers 30% to 50% of our needs.”
