Imagine my calm and my malice. Now can you imagine his calm, and his malice. He understands my need to fight people in conceptual spaces because, I think, it's his.
His yomi is so real. Reach for him and get turned into an example.
fighting game player whose dad could definitely beat your dad in a ft10

So I don't want to doom about Tekken 8. I think it's going to be good, and I want it to be good.
I love Tekken, and in practice, playing Tekken 8 is still a lot of fun, as much as we complain about it. They can fix up the balance as they go, and it will probably end up being a really good game. But currently, things are not good and the vibes, as mentioned previously, are atrocious.
Also, I don't always agree with TMM (he does not speak for all Mishima players, and frankly he's often annoying), but... I think this is a really good take. I *want* them to fix up Tekken 8 and stop going after modders, and I am totally OK with giving them more money for cosmetics -- as long as it's dignified and the cosmetics are good. I basically co-sign his position here:
youtube
I'd add that I strongly dislike the Tekken Coins currency; he didn't get into that. I find the idea of buying the special Tekken Coins really undignified, personally.

Beautiful! Thanks for sharing!! Are you going to swap the marquees back?
Tumblr media
So I ordered some new marquees from Noodle Shirt.
Unfortunately, in keeping with a poor week of focus, I managed to get the sessions switched around, so I now have this…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sigh.
Meanwhile, @alexr-fightgames I know you liked seeing Australian levers/sticks, how do you feel about this Australian Street Fighter marquee?

So, uh, I left my corporate software job (at a medium-big company you've heard of and probably have opinions about), and I'm teaching at university again!
I tried teaching at university a few years ago and I was easily the most depressed I'd ever been in my whole life! But I know, deeply, how it went wrong the first time, and I'm doing it much better this time.
I think this is going to work. Be nice to your instructors if you're in university, ok? Especially if they're not tenure track faculty. It's a whole thing.
y'all know me, and the best wisdom definitely comes from polling tumblr users

oh hey they're sending legal nastygrams to tekkenmods.com now. that's like the exact opposite of the kind of thing that's going to make the vibes better.
also almost every Eddy player I've run into has been an enormous coward. oh, somebody has an inkling of understanding of the matchup and you can't just mash your forehead into the controller to get to the "YOU WIN" screen? Accept your fate and gimme your goddamn points you utter degenerate.
Tekken community vibes don't seem great and Bamco had better do something about it.
Sending copyright strikes to youtube channels that feature mods -- which you can only really explain because the game mods are direct competition to their cosmetics store, since they never did this before -- apparently doing basically nothing about all the pluggers and cheaters, having the game crash a lot for many people, really questionable balance and super unga gameplay that folks are getting tired of already...
And they're about to have another Tekken Talk, late Thursday night. They'd better be announcing balance changes, penalties for plugging, and stability fixes.
And maybe they could tell the lawyers to chill. I don't expect they'd be able to say that out loud, but they ought to do it.
I'm not looking forward to Eddy. I'd be honestly surprised if his inclusion doesn't immediately make the game worse, but I'm going to do my best to shut down Eddy nonsense (with the Tekken 8 unga + DLC powerup!) and make Eddy players feel very sheepish indeed.

HOW MANY OF Y'ALL WERE THERE FOR THIS.
LiveJournal. Had (has?) moods as part of the metadata of the post. You could specify your mood. And there were a bunch of sets of icons that you could pick; there were a bunch of different ones.
AND IF YOU WERE EXTRA BALLER. You could make your own. You could upload your own images to have your own personal icons to describe your mood.
Do y'all even know about LiveJournal.

Tekken 8 player that wishes they could go back to staring at Kazuya's chest.

... we need ARMAH KING in Tekken 8.
But I don't (and didn't) need ARMAH KING to beat that specific person; I can do it just fine with Kazuya, turns out.
She needs Eliza to come back though, for her to really enjoy Tekken 8.
Tumblr media
ARMAH KING
... I have a plan. Working the AK because I'm going to pull him out to beat a specific person. Don't leak my plan, OK?
AK is so sick. I love Armor King more than almost any other Tekken character. Spit fire and bile, fling your body with wild abandon. Strongstyle shoot wrestling used in anger. Avenge the fallen: the guilty are about to get their tickets punched. ONE WAY TICKET TO HELL.
(the "Meow Meow Kitteh Man" phrasing is of course due to @edgeyberzerker )

There's a lot to complain about with Tekken 8, but I'm hopeful for good balance changes -- I think this graphic right here is *really good* and in a sense, the angle of the lines, that's the real tier list.
If you're a popular character *in general* but your usage rate goes way down among players who've made it to Tekken God and higher, then I think that means you're not high tier. Kazuya is a very popular character, but you don't see him above Tekken God very often. #BuffKazuya .
Contrastingly, if you're disproportionately popular at very high levels of ranked play (look, Drag and Azucena and Victor have lines that go to the left!) then they should probably take a hard look at your balance.

yep!
that's a really relaxing way to play actually. just like... try to defend correctly. stay calm and look at the screen with your eyeballs and either react or try to predict what they're going to do. (this only works if you know their character pretty well)
I think my primary complaint about Tekken 8 is that, for the most part, I don't actually want to run my offense. My joy in fighting games is teaching my opponent that their offense is fake and that a determined person who drank enough coffee and is willing to look at the screen with their eyeballs can shut them down completely.
Jimmy J once said to me, if you can beat the character, you don't even have to worry about the player. ... Tekken 8 has made it a lot harder to beat the character. It's still possible though. Y'all don't understand how caffeinated I am.

Relatedly, been teaching Red and Purple ranks the essence of wing chun with Leroy recently.
I basically don't try to push my offense at all. Just move up on them and wait for them to swing and then punish them for bad offense. Did you know that if your opponent knows the highs in your strings, or which ones are unsafe, you lose at Tekken?
We'll see if we can get him to Fujin with this approach.
