It’s My Little Monday! With...Catalog Page Glow n Show Ponies / Glowing Magic Pony! With last week’s look at a sorta-custom variant Dazzleglow, this page makes sense to take a look. Europe had these as the “Glowing Magic” while USA had them as “Glow n Show”, so this is a Europe area photo from probably one of their leaflets or possibly a toy magazine. What’s up with all the orange? That’s pretty much what everybody would like to know. They heavily favor orange when it comes to transparent-ish anything (2 of the sparkle babies, 2 of these, a shimmering beauty, etc) Maybe orange is just really cheap and easy to do in transparent plastic? It makes no sense to have 2 very similarly colored characters in a single set...especially when it’s only 4 ponies! But, as you can see there are differences from the final release: Brightglow is depicted here as clearly blue, when she ended up actually a lovely color of green. Happyglow they are attempting to make reddish/pinker, but she is actually very orange. Dazzleglow is shown as pinkish, which she CAN be, but she’s also more on the purple side. This is the blue-hearts version of her (there’s another with pink hearts) Poor Happyglow you can’t even see that she has hearts at all. (And for a showcase photo like this...that’s not the best planning) Their hair is styled quite nicely (But Dazzleglow never had that thick a mane) and the set does look quite appealing here despite the differences. The Glow n Shows are a magical bunch, who still glow to this day. I would easily have a big army of these, but they are uncommon and quite costly in 2023. They’re certainly highly recommended to collect.

It’s Toy Time Tuesday! With Mia & Me Kyara Wing Unicorn! Mia Me is back for the 2nd time in a row because more photos of the toys were uncovered. It’s likely they come out in waves along with (maybe) seasons of the show. But, because it is a Europe thing, it’s harder to tell what’s going on from the USA.  Kyara is a later season / later episodes child character, and is pretty special above others because not only a pegasus but a unicorn too. She has good fantasy elements like peacock-type eyelet circles for the feather tips, circles symbol, dapple shoulder, and slightly transparent yellow horn. It looks like the flower hair clips are meant to give her a ‘pigtails / twintails’ hair style common to little kids. Notice that the hooves seem to be separate pieces so they’re not just painted on there. She has the traditional “unicorn lions’ tail” but styled in a twist. The yellow eyes are a nice touch too. She does look like the show, except maybe the eyebrows are a bit denser here. Probably a pretty good collectible, but you won’t see it on usa shelves. (which is too bad)

It’s My Little Monday! With..Restoration (sort of) of Dazzleglow Pony! It’s no secret: I LOVE the Glow n Show ponies. I would army these if I could, but as you also know, they’re quite expensive. A lovely set of 4 ponies who appeared toward the end of the G1 line, they were full of little heart shaped confetti and real glow in the dark stars. This made each pony different from any other (bits inside placement is random) of the same character. However, there were also variants such as the hearts being pink or blue, and Happyglow having either a stronger blue or a more bluegreen hair. The body colors varied a little too, so people end up keeping more than 1 of the character if she looks different enough. The darker purple one here started off as a badly bleached and yellowed one that was of course, shaved. She’s supposed to be a bolder purple than the one on the right, but not so dark as the restored one. (Though that one will lighten over years as the dye migrates slowly toward the interior before balancing out) As the intent was to have a variation of her, I didn’t care that she was bolder, and then selected frostier hues for the hair. This pink doesn’t fade, and the blue is more icy. Of course, it had to be a lot longer too. I wanted a more contrasting look with super pastels for the hair and bold dark color for the body. She still glows just as brightly, too! This is another keep forever pony, she is on the favorites shelf, with the other GNS variations I’ve managed to get over time.

It’s Toy Time Saturday With... My Little Danny! Wow look, Danny from the original My Little Pony Show got a toy finally! Everyone can’t wait to collect him, especially because he is taco scented! Wait a minute... Just look what date it is. Uh oh, it’s April Fools Day! And, as usual here comes a ‘prank’ fakie toy. In this case it’s a fun artist’s creation that they even packaged themselves. It's Uncle Machete from Sharkboy & Lavagirl movie. Every year this Tumblr does an April Fools special item, and he’s this year’s fun. Look how the machete is a comb now! Lots of thought was put into this.  He's a combination of a vinyl troll doll body & a figure head given hair, with custom clothes by artist KVNorlly. They even added the famous tattoo and rooted all the hair too, so he’s really brushable. The artist is also the photographer.

Extremely True! Going to talk about this more on future posts. Look at how many notes this has, and how many agree with it: it’s a lot, and that’s pretty interesting.

It’s Toy Time Tuesday! With...Breyer Decorator Horse Classics Size Neapolitan! This horse appears in the spring of 2023, and apparently continues their love of desserts themed horses on the Decorator line. This line is for fantasy designs in general, so that they keep turning out dessert horses seems a bit...not as much variety? Others on the line include previous entries on TTT like Red Velvet & Cupcake. Neapolitan, of course, is themed after that famous 3 striped ice cream with pink strawberry, white vanilla and brown chocolate. To make the horse fancier, they’ve added iridescent hexagon glitter for the ‘sprinkles’ on the back. This also makes each on different as the glitter is never applied the same way twice. It’s the usual starting price of about 24 dollars, and can be found on Amazon as well. Over all, a fun idea! The pose is active enough, and the 3 colors don’t feel too forced with the way they did a fade between them, and have it set up in a sort of ‘pinto’ way. The glittery sprinkles (being pastel) really help sell the look as well. This is a good fantasy friend to join the collection if you are going for Breyers.

It’s Toy Time Tuesday! With...Mia & Me Unicorn Garnivera! Her name probably has something to do with a word for spring time. (Though IDK what language origin they’re using for it) Mia & Me has been on TTT before, as it is a show that features unicorns frequently as characters. The show is a mix of live action and CG. A Live Action girl will do magic and go into the CG realm as a CG character in Centopia. The style is loosely based on Gustav Klimt the famous artist. (Many elements of his works show up there, though he never did unicorns. To get art education, you should look him up but he drew nakeds sometimes)  As you can see, Garnivera has been released at least twice: once large sized to the dolls (top and left) and another smaller brushable hard plastic (right) The large ones (of everybody pretty much) seem sculpted a bit in the “Last Unicorn Amalthea” style, complete with the lion’s tail. The brushable has normal hair, but they both share the same air brushing colors and transparent gold/yellow horn. Do note the editor cropped the foot off of the top one: the toy is normal the photo is what’s wrong.  While pretty, these are costly and difficult to get in America. The show is/was on Netflix, (any country) so people could watch it, but for whatever reason they didn’t let the toys out everywhere. The show was/is most successful in Europe. The toys are likely made by Simba Toys. The photos are at https://magazinulprichindel.ro/ and they do sell these on the website but you have to be able to read it, and it may only send to Romania and can only be bought with Romaniadollars.

It’s My Little Monday! With...2 Versions of Mommy Sweet Celebrations! The Loving Family Ponies were sets of Twice as Fancy Ponies who were each a family with mom, dad, and two babies. The gimmick was that the children were a beautiful blend of both parents’ hair colors and symbols. In the case of the Sweet Celebration family, Mommy here has balloons and confetti, while Daddy has wrapped presents & confetti, so the children have both. Of course, each pony married another who had compatible colors. (Daddy is greenish with green hair, so the kids are bluegreen with pink and green hair and a mix of gifts and balloons) But what’s going on here?  This is another case of the Hong Kong & China made ponies being more than just a little different. The pink for the balloons is not only darker, it’s a different shade, the strings are less purple, and the hair color is even slightly different. The body color is a bit different as well, but the eyes are the same. (Ignore the tail rust they are not fixed yet) Which one is prettier? Don’t bother to decide, just collect both versions for more fun. All of the families are like this. There were 3 families, each with 4 members, so it makes for a lot of collecting if you want 2 of each to have the variations. It’s not the most extreme variation but it is interesting to see. In Europe the families had all 4 members, but in the USA, one of the children was always excluded, so it is harder to complete your sets or your variants if you’re in the US. There usually isn’t such a big/noticeable difference in ponies made in different areas. Their goal was clearly to have everything be the same/easy to do, but it didn’t always happen. Of course, other characters are more different than this, but many are more similar.  The more you know about collecting, the more fun it is!

It’s Toy Time Tuesday! With...Breyer Mane Beauty: Little Beauties Stardust Unicorn! Quite a title there, but here’s one of their new solid hard rubber type plastic ponies. The Mane Beauty line has brushable horse busts, and the Lil’ Beauties as a part of it (so, combing toys) The Lil’ Beauties are all pony bodied brushable toys with long manes and tails. They can’t break if dropped because they are ‘schleich-like’ hard rubbery plastic. Stardust is their most fantasy one, with pink body, 2 colors of pink hair (with gold stripe), and gold points. She is also the only unicorn on the first set of these. The other characters are a regular brown horse Blaze, a fantasy horse Sunset in yellow with purple hair, and a semi-fantasy horse Daybreak in gray/black but with blue pale hair. Each has a brush and is about 4 inches or so tall. The mane could use more hair in most cases. Do note that the hair IS that new ‘twinkle texture’ hair where the nylon is slightly textured to make it more shimmery. (Doll hair sites got this first, but Breyer got a hold of some, as did at least 1 Mermaze Mermaids Doll) They should be 9.99 each which is a fair price for a toy of this size and quality. (19 is too high, anything less would be a good bargain)  Stardust herself is nice, if you like the Shetland pony type body style. The sculpt is good, as expected from Breyer anything. The eyes are cartoony on purpose, as is the horn. I do like her, but not enough to get the rest of the characters at regular retail. The eye is a little off to me but that’s probably style preference.  There are 2 other characters (so far in 2023) in the line Sprinkle the white/pink horse with the sweet shop play set--has a symbol just like a mlp, and a black horse with a beauty salon play set. Keeping an eye on releases of fantasy/ish horses from them can be rough because they don’t seem to catalog their stuff as well so it’s worth mentioning.

It’s My Little Monday! With...Old Catalog Ad for Earth Ponies! This is a pretty common photo that lives around on the internet. It is from a toy catalog that would be seen by retailers, not by the general public. It announces the debut of the turn-head pose (shy pose) and the sitting pose. (Do click the image, the resolution is such that you can read it) It shows you how they’d come with the puffy stickers and flower combs. It also has to mention ‘forehead designs’ because with how these prototype’s hair is combed you can’t really see them. Do you notice anything? Cotton Candy is sitting on her sticker, and her hair color is wrong. Why not make the art sitting for the......actual sitting ponies?? There is also something slightly amiss with Bubbles & Seashell’s eye position. It is suspected that these are painted prototypes. Why did they choose such an unflattering angle for all the photo? It’s difficult to tell that Bow Tie & AJ are cute. The other thing is in the text: Bubbles and Seashell WERE short-packed (that means in the mandatory case-by-case of ponies order, there were only 2 of each of her) Despite Cottoncandy and Blossom already being released they’re still doing 6 Cotton Candys per box. It is interesting to see a fact backing up the rarity of some of the characters, and the common-ness of others that reaches all the way to this day in 2023. Well why not the sitting pose? A simple aside that has nothing to do with the ad: they were the only 2 ponies who sat, but why? It’s supposedly because they couldn’t wear any of the ponywear clothing. Ponywear was meant to be a much bigger deal, more like Barbie outfits where you’d have a few dolls but could dress them so many ways. That’s also why Firefly’s pose didn’t appear again after the Rainbow set (except once...can you name her?) she couldn’t put on all 4 of the shoes!  *This is actually fairly ridiculous when looked back on, because other Pegasus ponies like the Masquerade pose couldn’t wear several outfits too because the wings made them too wide. It made no sense to skip the sitting/foot up poses forever because of one decision ages ago.

It's Snom Saturday! With...Banpresto Big Snom! Snom Saturday hasn't happened around here for a while, because I didn't get any new snoms. The reason though is all right: it's because I have gotten nearly all of the snoms there are to be had. This one is Banpresto Big Snom, and it is about 13 inches long, so it is nearly life size. (Here with cozy wishes for you from a super soft blanket on the couch) It is made of a super duper soft fabric, and provides irresistible petting opportunity. The eye is embroidered, and the little feets underneath are glued on dots of more of the white fabric. That white line on the top is a hang string--which while well anchored/ wide-anchored it is not advised to hang because it's such a big toy. (Too heavy things get stretch/distortion around the hang string if hung unsupported) Banpresto Snom is a good alternative to Mochi Fuwa Cushion Snom who is somewhat hard to afford as an import-only at probably over 80 dollars by now because it sold out in Japan. (Although that one is larger--it is life size) This one should only be around 40 or so, and is common enough in winter 2023 that it is a good time to buy it. Snom items do trend upward in price once they sell out. 100% adorable bean baby, 100% recommended Snom.

Are you as annoyed as me with Schleich's new nonblindbag unicorns? I was so excited when they announced the gemstone theme, and then they're just white? With glitter, but still... not one clearware among them, even though the previous series had several clear models?
I actually didn't know about them at all! Do you have a photo? I'd love to do an entry about it. I looked up Schleich, but it seems they're just kind of willy-nilly-ing out unicorns with various themes but no guide? I found fruits, desserts, and candy ones all seemingly at random. A few places seem to be attempting bundles, but then no bundle (that I've seen) ever has all of the themed characters in it. Is there a place to go with a checklist, photos, or some kind of guide? I'm sure the readers would love to know more or to keep track / or to avoid disappoint. Thank you for letting me know about this though! (I'll comment of course once I can see these...)

It’s Toy Time Tuesday! With ShimmerCorns Sparkle Makeover Galaxie!  Not only is TTT on time this time, but it’s got a real digging in review. First to note is that this IS a ‘kiddie toy’ and I only got her because she was 5 dollars. If she looks big, she is, she’s a bit over 9 inches tall. To sum up the whole line and the idea of this: An Interesting Idea That Didn’t Quite Do It You can SEE what they were going for, first in the name “oh a shimmering unicorn” but they broke up the word and YES everywhere will try to sell you literal ears/cobs and cans of corn when searching. It makes “Corn” too much a part of the label. So the name idea but then it didn’t execute quite right. The Eyes There is a ‘crystal’ faceted shape of transparent plastic over the eye paint which was an attempt at being ‘Twinkle Eye Pony Like’, however it distorts the eye’s details when viewed right-on, and looks like odd goo from the face-on direction. It makes the eyes confusing to look at.  The hooves: They’re pointed like a high heel shoe, but they have random faceting all over to make them ‘crystal like’ but making the only very-smooth and elegant part of the horse be lumpy for any reason isn’t...the best? The face: At least the eyes are on the side of the head! It may have the face of a silly fish, but at least they weren’t trying to make it into a dog. (Finally) The name: They tried to name her but then they just spelled Galaxy in a different way that manages to sound exactly the same as if it was spelled normally. Again it’s another ‘not quite’. The gimmick: It’s a kids thing, so you use the greenish stencil to use the markers on the paper wings. However, they’re taped into the box plastic & they are simple thinner cardstock so 1 wing will always have tape on it, or rip. You can then store the stencil behind the wing (last photo) and mount the colored paper over the wing as seen.   Box differences: Notice the horn was originally green (did it glow?) And the eye makeup/stars were pink instead of gold.  Also if you have to display part of the toy behind itself so that people can see the toy better...it might be something to think of. I kind of mind how close this got to being something really cool? Like the dark purple with glitter plastic is fantastic, 2 colors of spray that goes with it really well (ankle & nose) the almost mechanical look of the removable wings, the neck symbol, hair tinsel/amount of hair, and added 3D detail for the tail and neck. It’s all great! A gimmick that doesn’t ruin the toy (infinitely replaceable paper & re-use-stencils that aren’t attached) They’re all really good.  I consider this like a ‘fairy horse’ where it’s a totally different thing that isn’t/shouldn’t expected to look like a horse, but a “horse-creature”. I would not have bought if this was whatever the suggested retail was, like 20 dollars or something (comes with lots of parts, markers, etc) because I don’t like the sculpt that well, but for 5 dollars I wasn’t going to say no. (Always the question: What is so wrong with horses that they want to make toy horses that DONT look like horses? What is the point of this? It happens all. the. time. “I want a horse toy that doesn’t look anything like a horse”--then what are you wanting! )

It’s My Little Monday! With...AltRehairs the Vanilla Cream Sundae Best G1 Ponies! To avoid MLM becoming consumed only with that G3 The Pony Project, this week takes a look at the common practice of Alt-ReHair. This keeps the original character, but changes the hair color to create a different look for a fun way to customize! Of course, as toys, G1 ponies will turn up with the hair cut off by kids or in other ways ruined. If the pony is valuable enough, the collector usually rehairs with original colors to keep or sell. However, if the value is only moderate, an AltRehair can be created. There are many trends with the practice such as “Black Tie”, where the pony gets a black accent stripe, “Body Match” where the hair is chosen for her body color, “Perfume Puff” where the hair is replaced with puffy fiber, and so much more.   In this case, I use the education about the practice to flail around the room and spread more Cocoberry propaganda! The center pony in the top photo is usually how you find her: a few rubs, sad pink or white faded dry hair. The left & right are ones given a new look: Royal CocoBerry with shimmer gold hair & metallic ice cream & Vanilla Cream version with vivid purple and frosty opaque white. Cocoberry’s smell is the BEST THING. Buy this pony and sniff her! Cocoberry propaganda go! A full set of Alt Rehairs isn’t that common, usually because some set member is either rarely damaged or someone’s too expensive to ‘give up’ to Alt. However, the Sundae Bests are an exception because their raised symbols are part of their body (cant be rid of) so they can ONLY be each character & not customized to something non-ice-cream-themed. This makes them easy/inexpensive enough to get, especially seeking damaged-only ones like I did.  The Vanilla Cream Sundae Bests all got a bolder than their original color, plus that opaque frosty white (that G3 used) for the ‘vanilla’. It was very fun to make and to keep. Future MLM will take a closer look at each one because...you can see something else is re-sculpted here...not just the symbols!

Out of curiosity I also did a little more digging, and her title also seems to be "Safety Word: Pony" (another S&M reference) - she is by the artist Luke Chueh who is known for his paintings of a somewhat mournful white cartoon bear in various situations, featuring themes of anxiety and depression, and often quite violent in nature. As his work is quite iconic, he's had several vinyl toys produced of his work. Here's his artist statement: https://lukechueh.blogspot.com/2012/05/my-little-pony-project-2012.html where he discusses his process and thoughts in detail! I wonder if there's more of these out there for the other project ponies.
I hope this helps your archival interests!
Great detecting work! This sort of blog post is much better than some mini-blurb in a gallery. I did a revisit of the pony's post and added the link to his blog so that everyone can read the artist statements.......right from the (horses')mouth. That bear is probably the face on the other side symbol but set in red instead of white so it matches the design. I credited your tumblr for finding out this important bit of info. It's actually pretty rare to have something like this get completed so quickly and with a great amount of info--how great! Thank you! (I tried reeeeely hard to keep it away from being an opinion piece and to stay neutral and educational about it so that I can refrain from yelling 'how trite!' as yet another person pastes 'adult theme on kiddy toy and calls it revolutionary'. Now that it's not a weird cowboy horror movie pony she should go visit Cat O' 9s the G3 prototype that got that 1 girl fired....)

She’s Back! It may not be My Little Monday, but the information is piling in! It turns out the original post was partially correct, the artist name is Luke Chueh (so the Luke part was right) but none of the names that were pulled from captions earlier were right. Her name is actually “Safetyword Pony”  Interestingly enough, the artist did keep a blog and made an entry for the pony that explains the whole thing. (If only they all could be that way!) It turns out it was collaborative with different artists making the mask, the accessories and him working on the pony to tie it all together.  You should certainly read more if interested over at https://lukechueh.blogspot.com/2012/05/my-little-pony-project-2012.html  which is the official artist’s blog post just about her. This was super helpfully tracked down by the helpful tumblr sleuth Featherwurm. (So, a big thank-you is shouted out!) This tumblr is meant to be an education spot for toys, trends, theories and more...and it’s made better by fans--as this proves! False leads are dismissed, more information is added, and entries can be completed as people pitch in and help out it makes everything better for everyone!  Reminder: Any post can be a ‘revisit’ when enough new information or corrections are uncovered. The more you learn about toys and art, the more interesting it can become.

I can't tell if you're being subtle or not (if you are then disregard) - the previous pony project pony is absolutely a kinky bondage theme with a gimp mask, leather, corset, branding iron, poker, and whip (all tools someone might use for the S&M part of BDSM.) It's not cowboy, horror movie, hellraiser, themed. It's very explicitly adult (but in a funny, cheeky way.)
As to why? Well, although the money went to a children's cause, I believe the ponies themselves were designed to go to high end collectors into the artists vinyl market - a number of artists on the project were known for more adult themes or well known in the vinyl collectable scene.
Thank you for this response! Can I add this response as a quote to the entry to help explain it for the people? (It is the only entry like this, so, likely to be the only time it occurs for The Project) I've gotten a few insights for her and want to add all because the MLM purpose is toy education & cataloging.
