Bluh I do not want my jaw propped open for two hours while they perform Mysterious Operations in there but that's what's about to happen in my day. Just gonna have to wedge the thing open like a car hood stick because I definitely can't keep it open for that long myself.

I'm mostly just chafed that this hasn't already happened. They rescheduled me twice but I guess the third time's a charm. Still. I'm sleepy and complainey about this because I couldn't sleep until probably 4:30-5 and then I was sleeping so good for a change. End meeeee.

Because fuck it man I don't wanna have to try to make sense of formatting and uploading and all that when I'm loopy and exhausted from having dental work done, so it goes up a day early. Absolutely behaving myself and writing a little one-shot because literally I don't remember how to not write and it's basically just a stim at this point. I am such a good boy. Look at me not doing the thing that I am not doing.

Also I got a blood draw and it was super chill and I did not even get nervous at all and coming from a serious medical phobia and a severe lack of flight in my fight or flight, meaning that I have in the past nearly decked multiple people at once in my terror at being approached with anything that even looks pointy, I'm feeling cool about that too. Congratulations to me, I can write little a long-overdue conversation between X and [redacted] as a treat.

I was so legitimately confused when my partner told me they'd reread my novel. I was like, "...Wait...you can do that?" immediately followed by, "Why?"

They looked at me like I was being stupid, which was in fact the case so they weren't even wrong, and said, "Because I liked it."

And yeah, that doesn't seem like a revelation, but it kind of was. You can read a thing more than once. You can pick up on different parts on different readthroughs. It can hit differently depending on where in life you are. It can still be entertaining and different even if you have it fully memorized.

The words don't change, but the person reading them does, and it's the combination that makes a story actually happen. So what if someone reads it quickly? So what if it took you a long time? It will keep evolving without you for far longer than you could have spent on it, multiplied by everyone who reads it.

The devastating difference between how much time it takes to write something vs how fast people read it lol
