Loki tends to snack more than he sits down for a proper meal, usually keeping things like apples or berries on hand. when he can, he’ll mix them with honey or cream. sometimes he’ll snag wild celery, or make wraps. hand pies are a very popular choice for him, as well. the general rule of thumb is if he can grab it & leave to create distance between him & a crowd, he’s probably all for it. 

Frigga would try to dissuade him from snacking because she felt like it ruined his appetite at meals - she would later realize this had more to do with other factors shutting him down, so eventually she stopped trying to curb the behavior as a whole. 

he’s especially partial to various kinds of salad when he does sit for a meal, but overall, it’s the “sitting” part that’s off-putting. despite not knowing he wasn’t a true Aesir, meal times were probably the biggest clue at his other’ed status within Asgard, & also one of the rare times Loki did not want to be the center of attention -- largely because of that strange sense of disconnect he could never quite put his finger on. while Thor, Sif, & the Warriors Three tended to flock together & draw quite a crowd, Loki was often at the edge of that same crowd. after a while, it just became easier to grab what he could carry & tuck himself away with his books & his magic. 

this trend continued even through his time under the mind stone, & further to his time in Asgard’s prisons. it wasn’t until he was able to use his faked death on Svartalfheim as a cover to truly disappear into the wider galaxy that he started re-thinking his methods. 

now, he’s more prone to sit down for meals of his own making, maybe with a partner or a small group joining him, but never anything larger than 3-5 people. Frigga ensured he knew how to cook beyond basics, but he still defaults to more simplistic meals largely containing red wine, root vegetables & fish. he’s still unusually preferential of street food.

is my muse inclined to help others,  or will they only do it when it benefits them,  if at all?  what makes them this way?  has it ever gotten them into trouble,  or inconvenienced them?

    Loki feels he personally has a lot of reasons not to help others - in particular, the overly large CHIP ON HIS SHOULDER over having his entire life revealed as a lie put what minuscule amount of compassion or empathy he had for others through proverbial the grinder & it took him many, many years to get that back. in reality, losing his mother was perhaps the most eye-opening experience for him in that he eventually came to realize the best way to honor her memory was to make choices that mirrored those choices she made in her own life - given that he would find out she died saving Jane, ultimately it came to make sense in his mind that his selfishness had caused the wound, perhaps an exact opposite set of actions might heal it. 

      this line of thinking went against everything he had believed about himself, & it’s still something he struggles with immensely. KINDNESS & ALTRUISM ARE NOT HIS DEFAULT TENDENCIES, & they may never be, but he finds that making a deliberate choice not to act against someone’s interests when he has an opportunity to do so is at the very least an adequate compromise. he won’t necessarily stick his neck out for another without damn good incentive, but he won’t aid in their downfall in terms of being an active participant. this a large reason why he chose to disappear after the events on Svartalfheim, traveling the deepest corners of the galaxy in pursuit of knowledge instead of trying to insert himself back into the life he once knew. 

      on the other hand, there is a part of him - however small - that does want to do good. he justifies this to himself as sheer pragmatism; he’s seen the horrors that exist, & lived through more than a single lifetime’s worth of near-apocalypses - it would be FOOLISH not to offer his knowledge if it might turn the tide against something that could be dangerous enough it threatens him much less the people he finds he somewhat cares for. when pushed, he won’t admit that it comes from a place of care, & it certainly doesn’t have to do with something as flimsy as compassion or sentimentality, even if at the end of the day it’s undeniably that. the person Loki lies to the most, after all, REMAINS HIMSELF.

      he prefers tea, when it’s available, & he’s not particularly PICKY about how it’s prepared. ideally he takes it black, perhaps with a touch of honey, & very, very hot as a means to stave off the chill he now knows comes from his Jotun blood. his tea of choice is black tea, but chamomile will do as far as an herbal alternative, or anything with oranges. when it comes to coffee, he drinks espresso; black, with no trace of sweetener added whatsoever, as it’s not something he drinks with great frequency, but does enjoy.

Chronic pain

because of her time as Batwoman, Kate deals with chronic pain - largely in her neck & lower back. she takes steps to work through this, such as keeping active even in her civilian life - walking, running, & weight lifting, as well as stretching properly - through yoga & tai chi - before & after suiting up. even so, she also finds herself relying on ice & heat treatments more than she should. one the worst nights, she sleeps with a rolled up towel lodged under her pelvis & medicated to the gills with OTC kosher painkillers.

this headcanon applies to Kate’s Crows variant verse ( as well as Kate’s AU verses selectively. ) only.

Kate has three dogs. her oldest is a twelve year old giant schnauzer named Bruce, whom she adopted while she was in high school & named after her cousin as a joke that shouldn’t have stuck but entirely did. He was injured on one of his back legs while they were abroad, & there were no adequate vet services - Kate had to set it herself with a frantic but memorable video call to Mary, & while it’s mostly healed, it’s just easier for him to get his exercise in the water than it is to stress him out with romping around a park for too long.

her next oldest is an eight year old Scottish terrier named Gideon, & her youngest is a four year old Belgian groenendael named Apollo.

Bruce & Gideon are both rescues, & are significantly pair bonded to each other. Apollo was entirely a surprise, given to her by Mary after she accepted her father’s offer to come work for the Crows & eventually got a place of her own in Gotham.

all three dogs have been professionally trained, but none of them act in the capacity of a guard dog. they’re all solidly pets, if perhaps a bit of emotional support animals given the stressful nature of Kate’s work. they’re also all very attached to their person, & have been known to bodily drag their beds across her apartment to stay within sight of their mom.

Kate keeps them all on a raw food diet, which she transitioned them to to help with Gideon’s food allergies & Bruce’s specific nutritional needs.

how does your muse go about expressing or not expressing their sexuality? || dev tea room’s word sprint challenge. 

      given the circumstances of Kate embracing her sexuality, Kate wears her pride for it much like armor & to say that Kate is a touch obvious with her expression because of this is an understatement. she expresses it in clothing & in jewelry, with probably the most notably being various t-shirts with slogans such as gay power!, rock paper scissors, sapphic society, the lesbian flag color scheme, or various rainbow motifs. she is, however, capable of reining it in a touch when it comes to professional settings - settling for cufflinks or a piece of statement jewelry for an understated but no less obvious clue. her short hair isn’t in & of itself a part of the expression so much as a personal preference, but it completes the look in her eyes & that’s really all that matters.

     her expression isn’t limited to her wardrobe. she also owns & manages THE HOLD UP, a gay bar in Gotham’s city center that hosts weekly events for the queer community. she also attends events such as first fridays - a queer centric social mixer in one of Gotham’s coffee shops on the first Friday of every month, as well as the pre-pride OUTNetworking event for LGBT professionals. 

     her activism is another facet of her expression, & causes she supports include the Human Rights Campaign, The Center, & several local charities & advocates for the community - all of which she supports both personally & professionally as the acting head of Wayne Enterprises during Bruce’s continued absence. much of this bleeds over into her identity as Batwoman as the red-caped crusader outs herself after being mistakenly assumed as straight by Gotham’s media outlets.

What is their social media life like? Do they have one? Is status connected to likes or could they care less? 

      Kate has a complicated relationship with social media - on the one hand, it’s very helpful for her cover. whenever she’s out with Mary, she’s very conscious to let the other snap photos & see them out being socialites but at the same time, social media itself is one of the greatest threats to blowing her cover so she’s very careful what she posts. after Mary gets brought into the loop, it gets a lot easier though - between her knowledge of how to work all the angles, & Luke’s intuitive understanding & study of tech, Kate’s gotten the hang of all the algorithms she needs to stay on or off the radar. 

       in her non-canon verse, Kate is still pretty tech savvy - she uses the ‘gram to self promote, be it her food truck or as a radio host (verse dependent), but otherwise keeps a relatively low personal profile so that she can exercise some modicum of control over who all has access to her on a day-to-day basis.

Perfume.

when not gallivanting at Batwoman, & instead playing the role of socialite & acting owner of Wayne Enterprises, Kate wears Tom Ford's Fucking Fabulous perfume as a signature scent. The perfume is characterized by key notes of almond bitter oil, tonka resinoid, leather accord, & clary sage oil. It smells intensely sweet upon your first spritz & then settles once the leather notes come through & mellow everything out. the mixture, however, is entirely neutralized by the suit as a precaution against recognition. the perfume retails at just over 335 USD for 1.7oz.

because this came up in a thread with @familiaanteomnia & begged to be expanded on

Kate, when not in her Batwoman gear, carries a handkerchief in the inside pocket of her jacket. it’s part of a set Luke got her as a nod towards taking over as acting owner of Wayne enterprises - similar to a set Alfred had given Bruce years prior. while it first felt a little bit silly & antiquated, they’ve come in handy in a pinch - be it preserving evidence to be analyzed in the Batcave, or helping out a pretty girl, so Kate can’t really complain.

The ones she carries are white linen with interlaced microtech, & have two Ks intricately hand-stitched into one of the corners with gold thread. suitable enough for any event she’d find herself at short of a black or white tie formal, if perhaps a tad fittingly ostentatious for the acting owner of Wayne Enterprises.

For decidedly formal events where linen would be out of place, she has a set of SILK ones & that was definitely done as a laugh from Luke, just to rib her gently about stepping into her cousin’s shoes. they can be cleaned with a mild silk-friendly detergent, soaked for no more than five minutes, given a dab of fabric conditioner in the final rinse (or even a small amount of hair conditioner), then left to air dry.  They're also interlaced with microtech.

The microtech interlaced in the handkerchiefs are designed with integrated functionalities interlaced into the fabric seamlessly so as to passively monitor any environment they're exposed to. this relies on physical sensors that respond to changes in the immediate environmental proximity in regards to both real-time monitoring of chemical & biological parameters of interest.

This technology is unique to Wayne Enterprises, but also utilizes some significant research from Hamilton Dynamics. The fabric can analyze trace amounts of biological & chemical substances, ranging from detecting poisons to monitoring vital signs once activated, as well as limited positional tracking.

Measures taken to protect her identity

The cowl itself is outfitted with the signature red wig to distract from Kate’s own appearance outside of the cowl as well as the helmet itself is electrified to deter someone ripping it off.  The main suit uses dilatant-based armor & contains encrypted radio, GPS, & biotelemetry transmitters, along with tasers built into her gauntlets & gloves.

Eventually, the suit will be upgraded to feature thermal imaging, anti-flashbang, & anti-hypnosis capabilities, as per canon for upgrades received during her time with the DEO.

The cape is made from a composite nanotube material & has weighted, sharpened edges that allow it to be used as a weapon in addition to its gliding function. The most obvious design on the suit is the chest-mounted Bat symbol that, while worn by Kate, is red.

She has her own version of the utility belt. Batwoman's belt is very similar to Batman's in design, with the main difference of having a red-shaded coloration to match the chestpiece on the main body of the suit. 

Under the iconic helmet, Kate has one additional layer of defense in the off chance someone manages to get the drop on her & wrenches it off of her. Under the mask, Kate wears a secondary mask made of a material unique to Wayne Enterprises’ R&D division. 

It’s similar in consistency to liquid latex, & is applied similarly to a spray on mask set in the shape of a traditional domino mask. It’s comprised of micro components that deter facial recognition & filming, meaning even if someone got a clear shot of her unmasked face, there’s still a level of protection towards her identity. It additionally guards against chafing from the helmet during extended wear. It peels off after single use.

He's not sure if the question had been rhetorical or not either when it had burst out of him but he's pretty damn confident that it's going to be his kid that kills him & not some otherworldly or super-powered world threat. Still, there's a time & place for anger & a heated lecture & right in the middle of this mess really isn't it. He shrugs out of his jacket & wraps it around her so he can pull her in for a loose hug.

"Hey, you're fine - that's what I care about." In the long run, he'd truly believe that statement & that's really all that mattered - the anger, irritation, & genuine fear would fade & they could talk when things were calmer but right now they need to focus on getting back to safe ground.

Regarding Bruce & Batman’s absence.

please note, this applies to DCTV threads - & is a default of my portrayal unless plotted otherwise. anyone I interact with who has specifically stated they are solely comic based or prefer comic prevalence in threads, you are free to ignore this as this will not apply to you. 

While I pull heavily from the CW’s Batwoman s1 in terms of my portrayal for Kate, I likely will NOT be pulling in canon beyond what has been established in the show’s first season. instead, to supplement & add a bit of an explanation for Bruce’s absence, I’ve chosen to add in an element of Nolanverse!Batman - plunking the events of S1 roughly five years after the events in The Dark Knight. after the death of Rachel Dawes, Bruce retreated from his role as Batman & Gotham as a whole, leaving a void that would eventually be filled by his cousin upon her return to Gotham in ep1. 

while I might play around with this & delve into it a little more deeply, this is the angle I’m currently using for my threads unless plotted/desired otherwise - & obviously, this canon is very flexible in terms of plotting with any Bruce RPer, it’s just a guideline for what might be going on in the background, so to speak.

The Crow’s Nest

Crows Security operation surveillance center, nicknamed the Crows Nest, is located within Crows HQ & functions as the nerve center for the security company. Whoever is in charge of manning the nest oversees visuals & auditory surveillance regarding events the Crows are currently contracted to oversea, as well as surrounding areas for paying clients.

The Nest’s structure is set up with main monitors positioned with four marginally smaller monitors across the top & three larger monitors centered immediately underneath. All seven are set in front of a large digital grid monitor to include what appears to be public transportation for the entirety of Gotham. 

From left two right, starting with top left, monitor 1 appears to be a cell tower grid, but could also be camera locations. given the level & calibre of Crows technology & Hamilton Dynamics’ funding, it’s possible that there’s some overlap & it contains data for both. monitors 2 & 3 are stationary camera feeds monitor, while 4 is audio surveillance monitoring. 

On the bottom row, monitors 5 - 7 are for larger static surveillance cameras similar to monitors 2 & 3 above them. Each static surveillance monitor displays 12 camera angles laid out so that there are four large images & eight smaller images ( three columns by two rows, but the middle image for each is four smaller images ).

There's an additional 8th monitor to the top left & slightly away from the others that provides real time monitoring of the vitals of agents in the field, similar to technology utilized by the InGen Security Divison at Jurassic World for their Asset Containment Unit. 

To the left of the monitor’s seating is a digital surface with outlines of Gotham’s expansive waterways. The rest of the desk is clear bar a phone & a keyboard. Behind the Nest & in the center of the room is a table with the same digital inlay technology that appears to be used as a situation briefing table. The table is flanked on either side by additional monitors & digital maps, as well as additional workstations & miscellaneous cubicles, presumably for Crows management.

The direct opposite wall of the Nest houses a meeting room that is set back into the wall & raised up a level, accessible by its own set of stairs. It can be secured & is fully soundproof so it can be utilized for the highest priority & most sensitive Crows clients. All Nest screens can be generally seen from here.

Does your muse have a plane, car, van etc? Describe the inside of it, how much care and keep do they have for their transportation.

while Kate herself has dubious access to a whole fleet of cars while her cousin is mysteriously absent, Kate herself owns two motorcycles & prefers to keep that as her primary mode of transportation. her main bike as Batwoman is a Harley Davidson Sportster Iron she’s christened RED KNIGHT ONE, & was given to her by Luke for her birthday. her main civilian bike is a red Ducati 109 she’s affectionately dubbed RK2. 

both bikes are in surprisingly good condition - with her work bike picking up the bulk of the damage every time she has to involve it in surveillance. it has scuffs & dings, & an immense amount of random nicks she’s been putting off fixing until they’re more than just cosmetic nuisances. she’s very hands on with the care for both bikes, & is decently experienced in fixing their minor issues herself.
