obviously you can make a long list of things in canon that point to dean being queer but I think two of the closest instances we have of TPTB recognizing it are the s12 market research (acknowledgement that they had enough canon background and evidence to go forward with it) and the 8x13 director's commentary where Phil Sgriccia and Ben Edlund say that the pub interaction with Aaron opens Dean up to the "potential for love in all places." This one is especially wild to me because the way that was played was improv. Jensen decided to play it like a romcom and the production team acknowledges that it reads as a romcom. Jensen Ackles himself canonized Dean as queer. Top 10 jacting joices I want him to explain during a polygraph test

GOD why is the anael and lucifer dynamic so weird and horny right off the bat. i mean i know it's because buckleming both wanted to fuck lucifer but i'm on my hands and knees fucking begging this show to remember that all of the angels are siblings

So Supernatural did not introduce Abel, the Biblical brother, but created a whole new character, Colette, the love of Cain's life and paralleled her with Cas

And they did not introduce Biblical Eve, but created a whole new character, Serafina, an ANGEL, the love of Adam's life. And they showed them, a human and an angel, in a loving ROMANTIC relationship

And in Despair, the episode in which Cas confessed his love to Dean, they showed us Charlie losing the woman she loved.

Sam losing the woman he loved.

And Dean losing ... Cas.

It's as if, AS IF, the show was trying to tell us something?????

reading that spn forum and seeing opinions from 2005-2007 made it clear to me that the mutually antagonistic relationship between the audience and the show has been there from the very beginning like, we've always complained a LOT and had strong opinions on everything. some of the messages i post seem like they were written yesterday because we've always been like this

okay so. when i was reading the 2005 supernatural forums there was a bit of talk about phone numbers and voicemails that i didn't really pay attention to until this morning when i found something more

right after 'phantom traveler' ended, people started talking about dean's phone number that john gave in his voicemail

but i watched that moment and went, where are they getting this completely different number from? on bluray john gives the number as 785-555-0179

and then i see this

so at some point, the producers went back and overdubbed the number john gives with a different number, but the people who were watching it live heard 866-907-3235. and they called it. and this is the voicemail they got (youtube recording of it)

so, the first time dean's phone is given out on the show, the viewers are prompted to call it and get a voicemail. 11-2-83 is the night mary died.

the next time dean's phone is said on the show, in 'home', they're also prompted to call it.

and they find out that the voicemail changed

since dean gives out john's full email address in this voicemail, people start writing it too. and the day before 'asylum' airs, they get a reply

so now they have a day's head start on figuring out what this connects to. and this person gets it

dean does, in fact, get a similar message as them in 'asylum'

i don't know, seeing people this engaged with the show from the very beginning is just cool

before the season 2 premiere they got one more e-mail, this time jo's

if you wrote her, she would write back "Do I know you? Aren't you a friend of Ash?"

according to the spn wiki, this message was automated up until s05e10 'abandon all hope', after which the e-mail no longer responded. :(

funny because several times they went. lucifer used the memory of jess against sam and for dean he used the memory of. :) and dean had to pull sam away from jess when they couldn’t save her and sam had to pull dean away from. :) sam in the final season had developed a relationship with eileen and dean had. :)
