He seemed to shrug it off while she was wrapped around him, though grunting at the squeeze a moment thinking his spine may snap like a twig, taking a breath as soon as she let go, he may have said it was no big deal but really, considering he never had food for himself nor was there anything ever in the house, it kinda was, but Bender insisted in playing it cool. "I get it right huh?"

"I made you one of those unh...captain crunch sandwiches you like so much."

“You - you made food for me?” Allison asks, staring down at the offered sandwich in amazement before suddenly latching onto him for a big hug. It’s brief, one very tight squeeze around the ribs before she lets go to open up her sandwich and eat it immediately, but hopefully enough to let him know how grateful she feels.

"Well..." He peered at the note fully aware of her inability to speak, his boot kicking at the back of her chair in an attempt to annoy her, causing the chair to rock. "The quiet ones, they never really talk to anyone, not that you can but...you know what I mean...keep to themselves...but they're always the ones you gotta be careful of you know?...." He seemed to mumble at her, rambling more so, clearly high as hell, stunk of weed, and eyes bloodshot, he wouldn't even be bothering to make contact if it wasn't for the fact they had been paired up for a chemistry assignment. "So how are we supposed to do a presentation if you can't....present?"

His little confession was enough to make her pause mid pencil stroke, eyes fixated on the page on the scratched up tabletop in front of her before her eyes lifted to look at him with a hint of surprise in them. Not what he expected, huh? Blue eyes slowly lifted to look him in his dark browns as if trying to read him for a hint of what he meant before asking.

The assignment she'd been working on was soon pushed away and replaced by the well loved notebook she hauled everywhere, jotting down a quick note, turning the book and sliding it in front of him.

"Aint that." He grumbled, shoving the smokes back into his pocket before sitting back on his gloved hands, fingers idly playing with the weeds between the cracks in the concrete. "By the time this shitter cools off? it'll be long over...gonna take at least two hours, then the rest of the drive, even if we walk, it'll be over before we get there."

Allison’s eyes went wide as he lit up the tickets, watching them burn before getting chucked away like trash. She continued to stare as they lay there in the dirt by the side of the road, still smoldering at the edges for a minute or two before finally going out.

“…You don’t want to go any more?” She asked, her voice small as she came and crouched next to Bender on the curb, looking up at him through her bangs.

Typical Shermer weather, one moment it was cool with the sun out then it was pissing down and bouncing off the roads, Bender didn't seem all that bothered by it, he was more of less used to being caught out in the rain, considering how much time he spent outside of school away from home. As his smoke got soggen his head turned upward to look at the grey sky, removing his denim from his shoulders before plonking it right over her head to shield her from the rain, saying nothing like it was no big deal.

"Bummer huh?" He leaned away from the steaming radiator, knowing full well what was wrong with the truck from the second it made a clunking sound, his dad having so much trouble with it as well as his own interest in tinkering with vehicles being a large helping factor. Stepping away from it he could do nothing but leave the hood up and plonk his backside down on the curb, rummaging in his pocket for a smoke, pulling out the crumpled looking tickets to the gig, head tilted and probably a little preemptive, a match was struck and a flame held to the tip of the paper setting it ablaze, lighting his cigarette from it before throwing it away to the wind. "You want one?...much else to do out in bum fuck nowhere."

Allison had followed him to the front of the car, standing offside and leaning back from the steam as soon as he'd lifted the lid. Acting like it might bite her somehow. She couldn’t help hovering though, eyeing the truck’s insides with a strange fascination. They looked like the guts of some strange metal creature, sort of like a reptile. It was making her think about dragons for some reason.

“Don’t worry about it… We can always try and hitch if it doesn’t start up again.” Not that she'd ever done it, but he didn't need to know that.

Every time her folks had so much as blown a tire her dad had called AAA, but she'd seen it happen in enough movies to get the gist. She figured the part where someone ended up bloody and dismembered afterward was optional.
