One of my favourite scenes this season was the conversation between Wille and Simon during the strike when they're talking about being so different from each other, and they say something like
"Isn't it good that we're different, so that we can learn from each other"
"You learn from me?"
"Yeah"
Because I think it does tell us and Simon that despite how he may act about everything at the time, he does, at least subconsciously, listen to what Simon is saying and fighting for. He is learning and trying to do better in the situation he is in, definitely maybe not well, but he's trying.

"wilmon is toxic" "wilhelm is selfish" "simon is selfish" did you ever consider that they are teenagers and teenagers often have commuication issues in their relationships. they're like 16/17 and when you're 16/17 you say and do shitty things, especially under pressure. at 16 i sure as hell wasn't having the world's most mature conversations in my relationships. and also when you're 16 no matter how mature and selfless you are, it seems like the world revolves around YOU, which is ESPECIALLY the case for someone like wilhelm. they are flawed! and flawed in a way teenagers often are! and that's okay! it doesn't mean it's GOOD it just means they have depth and they feel more real!

we hear wille saying this in the trailer after kristina says “you have to be able to take over after me”, but we know now that’s not what wille said in that scene, they really fooled me into believing this was him hinting to abdication.
I still hope he is referring to his role here though-

I genuinely think Wilhelm losing Erik was the beginning of the end for his time as a prince. Hear me out!!
First, Wilhelm loses his brother in the physical sense. One second he’s on the phone with him and the next his brother is dead (also, English major here but it’s also extremely poetic that the thing that killed Erik was the thing he seemed to enjoy the most : cars). At this point, Wilhelm has to grieve not only his brother but he has to grieve for the version of himself who remained the spare for the rest of his life and got to live somewhat of a life he wanted (with all the additional bullshit being a prince entails). So, he acts out - he yells at his mother, he takes drugs. No, I don’t think him liking Simon was a way to act out, especially because we can see that he is enamored by him before the boy ever speaks to him directly.
Then, he loses Erik again. And this time, I think it’s arguably worse. This entire time the characters (and the audience) have built up Erik to be this perfect character - the perfect son, the perfect brother, the perfect prince. But what we learn from him being involved in the gay porn initiation is that he is far from perfect. He is not immune to the way power takes over your mind and convinces you that some torture is just for fun, it doesn’t mean anything. And it’s very important that it was gay porn because that is ultimately what breaks Wilhelm. His brother, the man Wilhelm looked up to and was now forced to become, at the very best thought getting hard to gay porn was something funny and at worst something to get beaten up for. How can wille be expected to become someone who thought Wilhelm’s own emotions and sexual identity was something to laugh at? How can he become Erik if he might’ve been homophobic? How can he be Erik if what Erik stands for is this kind of extreme wealth that looks down on people like Wille?
It’s why he projects these feelings onto Simon during that music room fight. He can still love his brother if Simon is the one that thinks he’s homophobic. He can still look up to him if Simon is the one that’s offended by the notion. The plan backfires almost immediately when Simon very accurately points out that perhaps it was a peer pressure thing and whether that’s true or not doesn’t really matter. Simon is always capable of looking at things in a nuanced light. “I can be with you and still hate the monarchy” he says, because Simon knows that things aren’t black and white.
I don’t think he was truly offended at Erik being compared to Sara but to wille, what Sara did is obviously bad - she slept with the man who posted their sex tape. What Erik did, falls into even more of a grey zone especially because he’s dead and can’t defend himself. That’s why wille needs to point out that Simon didn’t know Erik. Because if Wille knew Erik like he truly thought he did, how did he not know that his brother was possibly homophobic?
That’s all to say that this disconnect between who wille thought his brother was and who he might’ve been is where Willhelm sees how fruitless this whole thing is. Why should he want to preserve this false memory of what Erik would’ve done when it turns out he never really knew him? Erik, like the crown and the monarchy and the entire fucking system, are mirages covering up the inner corruption and perhaps Wilhelm now sees that he simply can’t do it anymore.

So the queen can take time off so she doesn’t breakdown from her mental health issues but when her own son is having anxiety attacks and breaking down or acting out due to emotional neglect, she goes so far as to call him a threat. She doesn’t even stop to think about her son and how her taking a break puts further strain on his already disturbed mental health.
Wilhelm is a 16 year old child to deserves to have a normal loving family much like anyone else and not one single time over three seasons have we seen him experience parental love/ comfort. All he gets is a commanding officer.

Honestly, cracking up a lot at complaints I've seen about the Royal Court abandoning Simon without proper media training or advice while at the same time we're watching an absolute PR disaster playing out with the British royal family at the moment.
I know the Swedish monarchy set up is very different from the British one, but still. Look at how they threw Meghan Markle to the wolves and she was a formal married member of the Firm! You think they're going to protect the mixed race, 'unsuitable' teenager they're all hoping is going to break up with their Crown Prince soon anyway?

To me Wille’s character development this season is just such a good commentary on the environment he grew up in. On monarchies. How could he turn out any different than a mean, sad mess? When he’s never had a choice (he joins the choir because he likes Simon yeah, which is sweet, but also does he even like anything that he wasn’t told he should like)? When he doesn’t even know that he’s privileged (and on one side he’s got Simon telling him that everything is bad, on the other crowds of people telling him everything is good)? When the system is so oppressive that he’s alone at 16, with the responsibility and guilt of making his mom less sick or he’ll have to take her whole ass job. Of course Wille turned out bad. This is what we’ve been seeing for the whole series, that the oppressive systems like the monarchies are bad for everyone, either stuck in it or outside of it. It drives people to destroy everyone else for power (August). It drives people to cover whole ass crimes that their kids are victims of just to keep a fake reputation (the Queen). And now, it drives a grieving, lost and neglected kid to do the same thing to those he loves because that’s all he knows.
And there you’ve got Simon, who’s the first "thing" Wille has ever liked without being told to (he’s a person ofc but you know what I mean) and the first one that Wille probably knows, him always being in the same type of environment. And that doesn’t fit within the system. If he wants to keep Simon, as well as his own mental health and sanity, Wille needs to get out of the system. And I think this was exactly what s3 is trying to tell us. It’s a commentary on what being stuck in that system is. We see it with Felice too, she’s trying to get out of her own system and is making people mad by doing so. They’re all stuck in the system, and some people are happy to stay there (Frederika, Stella, Nils, Vincent…) and others have to fight to get out or they’ll lose themselves. This is exactly what’s happening to Wille, and now that the one thing he has, his relationship with Simon, is going to leave him… I think this will be the wake up call for Wille to realize that he can’t stay in this institution. He has to leave if he wants to be his own person.

The royal court letting Wilhelm manage Simon’s media training/behaviour is so fucking funny like. This boy was introduced in s1 by being dragged away from a rave, who said fuck it and pulled rank in the most absurd ways in s2, who threatened the queen via speaker phone, who pulled a gun on his cousin, who impulsively changed his royal initiation speech midway and publicly came out to the entire country. That wilhelm? You want that wilhelm to tell his boyfriend to lay low? Ma’am pls 🤡

Wilhelm and Simon's intimacy was off the charts this season. Every scene with them screamed "I'm so in love with you that it hurts", the joyful moments were so achingly sweet and all the devastating moments were so lovingly painful. Their love for each other was so ever-present in them this season.
