Avatar the last airbender vs alien invasion

Are we talking peace disturbing aliens who want to take over the planet etc etc? Because in that case I think Aang, dutiful as he is, will immediately try to find a peaceful resolution with the aliens until someone, probably Toph, goes ‘does this even fall under your job description?’

‘huh? Of course, he’s the Avatar, keeper of peace and balance and all that stuff’ <- Sokka probably

‘We’re speaking balance between the human and spirit worlds. Last time I checked, aliens are neither of those’

This will provoke a sophisticated, philosophical discussion between Sokka and Toph, which will get les sophisticated and less philosophical when Zuko and Katara join in.

The gaang: *fighting over definitions and technicalities with some cursing sprinkled in*

Aang: uh, guys, I’ll go check my contract *meditates himself into a meeting with the previous avatars*

Unfortunately for Aang, his previous reincarnations also can’t seem to agree on the matter and he’s stuck listening to hours and hours of the same discourse. Fortunately for the world, while Aang is on his spiritual journey, Miyuki saves the day.

Once when the gaang visits the Fire Nation, they’re all just on the side of too tipsy when Zuko leans in with the most grave expression imaginable.

“Aang,” Zuko says, “This has been… haunting me…. Why did your friends need to suck on those frogs?”

And Aang just gasps, and does not explain the frogs, because he has suddenly remembered that Miyuki is still wanted by the Fire Nation and that just won’t do. So Aang demands that Zuko pardon Miyuki for her crimes, which then gets the rest of the gaang to dogpile on and also demand justice for Miyuki. 

Zuko is willing to hear him out. 

…Zuko is significantly less willing to hear him out when Aang mentions that Miyuki is a cat.

(Zuko finds it difficult to believe that a cat is legitimately wanted by the Fire Nation)

But because they are all the worst, he relents and they all drunkenly stumble down to go find the records of Miyuki’s crimes and write her up a pardon, much to the chagrin of the night-shift archivist.

Imo, atla has a bittersweet ending

Aang is sitting alone and wearing the air nomads clothes, his culture clothes, a necklace similar to GYATSO's necklace. I can't even imagine the emptiness and sadness he was feeling here

There are no airbenders in the crowd

All nation gathered..... except the air nomads.

No one else in the crowd wearing orange or yellow.

Aang won the war, but his people are still gone.

Yes, he has the Gaang, he has Katara, he has Momo and Appa. But he's still the last airbender.

This is so heartbreaking.

What might a genderbent yue x sokka look like? Like Everyone else is the same only Yue and Sokka have their genders swapped.

Sokka’s masculinity and how he perceives gender roles are such an integral part of his personality that I can’t even imagine this. I think (s)he would just be a completely different character altogether. Would she be entrusted with the responsibility to safeguard her sister and the entire village? Would she struggle with the sinking feeling of inadequacy? The fear that she will fail everyone and lead them to their doom? Would those feelings reach their peak when that fear will inevitably become reality? When she will actually fail to save a Water Tribe and protect someone she holds dear? Or will this Sokka have different hurdles to overcome, will she have different struggles with different narratives to explore?

And on the opposite side we have Yue, whose gender does not really affect her narrative arc at all (or at least to a much lesser degree). Marrying out of duty is a non-gender-specific issue for royals (if I am to believe fictional media) and sacrificing your life in order to repay the moon spirit and save the world as well (though I don’t think anyone but Yue has been through this yet).

I think Yue and Sokka’s story would be very different (or potentially wouldn’t exist) if they were genderbent, mainly because it fits perfectly in Sokka’s character arc as it is right now. But of course maybe I’m missing something that could make this version more interesting. I’m not sure if anyone explored this dynamic before, but fanfiction is always a good place to search!

your bare minimum isn’t actually that bare or minimum. my dad once told me that there’s nothing in this world that’s easy and that’s true tbh. everything we do takes energy, time, and effort. even the little things. if you feel like you’re not doing enough please try to think about your circumstances and what’s currently available to you: chances are, there’s something that’s diverting or otherwise draining you. and to pull away from that and get something done regardless? well, i think that’s really admirable! please try to take pride in the things you do accomplish in a day, no matter how small or trifling you perceive them to be. you can’t be proud of your growth if you don’t notice where you already are!
