I’m feeling this for a friend right now and it’s amazing I get so excited it’s as i I can extend all the kindness and love to them that other queer friends have given to me in that situation and it’s just beautiful to be able to give that to someone.

One thing I love about being gay is that very specific emotion you get when you witness another queer person coming out or Realizing^tm or simply existing in the world for the first time as a queer person. And I’m not talking about friends or even people you know - it’s something I feel for complete strangers too: a youtuber I vaguely follow who just came out as a trans woman, two teenage girls I saw holding hands and furtively kissing behind shelves at the bookstore, this story of a 90yo gay man who finally decided to come out to his family… It’s a mix of pride and joy and, idk, tenderness? protectiveness? kinship? It’s like even though I’m never going to meet or talk to them, in my heart I’m holding a big sign that says “Welcome! Sorry if the journey’s been difficult, but you’re home now.”
