A reverse/concrete poem I've written on the horse racing industry which ultimately prioritises profits over the well-being of horses.

Please stop trigger tagging with #epilepsy tw/cw/warning/etc.
I need every single person to understand how horrible tumblr’s tagging system is
I go into the tag for epilepsy and its all flashing lights. We can’t use our own tag because people without epilepsy fill it up with improper warnings.
Use ‘flashing’ in place of ‘epilepsy’ in your tags. You aren’t warning people of epileptics, you’re warning us of flashing lights. Please please tag properly. Epileptics say this endlessly and constantly and it’s ignored. You are risking lives by doing this.
Here’s proof of what I mean:

THIS POST IS 100% OKAY TO REBLOG, I ENCOURAGE PEOPLE WITHOUT EPILEPSY TO ESPECIALLY DO SO!

CW * * * * * * * * -Suicide Years ago I was in a really dark place with my mental health where I couldn't see a way forward. This poem is about that struggle. I was fortunate to have some resources available to me and managed to find a way forward. I find it sad that were in a society where access to those resources can be very difficult and even non-existent. Additionally there's the issue that other groups of people face more barriers with accessing such resources. I just hope that other people with whatever they're going through, can find a way forward. Please reach out if you're struggling and haven't done so already.

When people say "eat the rich", they're not referring to every successful person. They're referring to those whose success depends on the failure of others, such as the employers who profit from underpaid employees, or the landlords who profit from people who need a place to live but can't qualify for a mortgage, or the medical corporations who price gouge knowing that people can't just stop buying what they need to survive.
And that's made very clear every time people bring it up.

From my perspective as a queer, cis-gendered male whose family migrated to Australia from a third world country, I find it sad to see so many other males embracing toxic forms of masculinity. As a society, we condition those who are born as biological males, to internalise toxic forms of masculinity. I think for a lot of these males, the thought of giving up something that's become an essential part of who they are is scary. Perhaps this generates fear responses which manifests through many males desire to either attack or not properly engage with feminist ideas that they perceive as a threat.
With males having such a high rates of suicide and substance abuse among other things, traditional forms of masculinity really demand a lot of pressure on males to conform to a certain ideology that also discourages them from seeking emotional support, especially from other males. The shame and stigma that's placed on males who choose not conform to such ideals really adds to this pressure and isolation.
Ideologies such as hegemonic masculinity have played a heavy role in promoting social hierarchies and forms of discrimination such as sexism, homophobia, transphobia, racism, ableism and class discrimination. I think if equality is to be achieved, then feminist have rightly challenged such ideologies. As a society, I believe we need to embrace alternative forms of masculinity that discourage the use of violence, dominance and social hierarchies. With this, comes forms of masculinity that can accept and celebrate feminism and other movements that break down social hierarchies.
Additionally, I think the shame and stigma around those who choose not to conform to masculine ideals needs to be addressed. And so, I believe the key to liberating males from damaging masculine norms, is for males to support the systemic changes advocated by intersectional feminists.

ppl need to stop telling kids and teens those are gonna be the "best years of their lives", feels like telling em things won't get any better
that thought can make ppl (especially those with trauma) feel hopeless and trapped
plus adulthood is pretty rad! free to make ur own choices!
telling kids their future is bleak is very discouraging

I wrote this poem with 2 friends who've also been diagnosed with BPD. Living with the stigma of BPD, we wanted to write a poem to combat the stigma and stereotypes. By focusing on how BPD has helped develop our insight and capacity for compassion, we hope to celebrate how our experiences of BPD has helped developed ourselves as people!

I find that there’s a lot of stigma that’s associated with the emotion of anger and how it’s often considered useless or unproductive. I wrote this poem on my experiences of using anger to overcome my anxiety, mainly in the area of social justice.

Happy Pride month everyone! A reverse poem I wrote a while ago on my experiences of homophobia, still one of my favourite pieces. I just hope that one day we can live in a world where more of us can find pride in who we are.

We’re currently going through a mass extinction, the 6th in the earth’s history. Wealthy nations are guilty of their disproportionate contributions towards climate change. Responsibility must be taken. Not just from big corporations and industries, but from us as individuals. One of the findings from the IPCC report (2022) is the need for more individuals to shift towards a plant-based diet due to the environmental destruction of animal agriculture. I mention this specifically as the environmental impact of animal agriculture doesn’t get the media attention it deserves.

Wrote this poem with my mental health issues in mind. It’s worth emphasising that it’s important to pick your battles. Some aren’t worth the effort. I also experience a fair amount of racism, homophobia and ableism which I feel is stigmitised in their unique ways (as well as how they intersect with one another) which also prompted me to write this poem. In many cases, I feel that for me it’s best to hide aspects of them. I’m already closed off to a lot of social and economic opportunities as it is due to my presentation. To get by, I conform to societal standards as little as possible.
