‘frankly in love’ reading update
(this is a longish one)
from what i’ve read so far (which is not much, i’m only 67 pages in), it feels as tho, rather than just discussing the issues or lifestyle choices that come with being a korean american teenager, it feels like the author is sticking to the stereotypes of each race. it doesn’t feel as though the author was bringing a new perspective on the issue or topic. i know i’m not one to really talk on this subject, since i’m not korean american myself, but it just doesn’t feel like the author has brought anything new to the table. i was really looking forward to a new perspective too, especially with the set up and the fact that the story is told through a teenage boys perspective, but so far, it just feels like i won’t be getting that anytime soon.
maybe it’s because this book was written in 2019, and at that time we were JUST starting to come off the “quirky smart teen” character and narration style... but goodness gracious, i can’t. i feel like teens just DONT act or speak this way. i was looking forward to seeing a romance from a boys perspective, which was actually written by a guy, but maybe i hyped it up too much.
my thoughts so far can be summed up in “STOP BEING QUIRKY.” ... maybe i just hate cheesy metaphors and nerdy science joke (i tend to be more of a ‘pun’ girl myself) but so far, this isn’t my cup of tea.
what are your thoughts of ‘frankly in love’? should i stick it out?

thrift finds!
can’t believe i found the whole series, and it in fairly good condition too! i’ve already read “anna and the french kiss”, i gave it 4/5 ⭐️. i really liked it, i just hate cheating plots. hope that isn’t a theme throughout this series! i’m more excited to read isla’s story than lola’s, but i’m still excited nonetheless!
kind of been in a book slump lately, so leave your favorite romance in the notes section!
posting april wrap up soon!
